Ship progress should contribute to all crewmates

  • As it stands, only the captain will get progress for their ship. Whilst this may make sense, since all the actions occurred on their ship, it makes multiplayer less viable for progression, which seems to go against what Rare has always wanted from this game (see each crew member receiving the same for selling treasure).

This issue is highlighted in my situation especially. My crew consists of myself (UK), another friend (US East) and another 2 friends (US West). If we are in any server, other than US East, somebody will get high ping. This is expected given that even within your own region server, ping is high relative to other games (about 50-60 ping on UK servers).

However, due to this, my US East friend is always the one to host. This means only he will progress his ship. Whilst this seems fine, since he is the only one who hosts, I will sometimes play with another group of friends who are all British. Now who hosts? Do we swap every session?

If so, then playing as a 4-crew every time impedes your progress, as you now have to share the Captaincy between 4 players instead of 2.

I simply ask for Rare to change this. I suppose the solution would be to check the ship type, then check which players have a Captained ship of that type, and to then allocate progress to that ship. This means you can't play on a Galleon and receive progress for your Sloop. It also allows all players to benefit, only provided they are eligible (i.e. they own a Captained ship).

    Rare, pls fix.

    "Their Ship" That is correct.

it makes multiplayer less viable for progression

That why they have Pirate Milestones....

    They do.

Correct, since they are the Captain of 'Their Ship'

Only if you want to have different or the same stuff on the Ship
See this where people are sooo misunderstanding the SHIP milestones.

As a Captain and your crew, you are doing adventures, with the Captain Ship. What they want. Maybe one friend wants to have nothing but Fish trophy decorations? While another wants the Meg statues? Designed so the Captain does what they wish to achieve and the Crew come along and help. While in the process, as Pirate milestones unlock Crew related stuff.

I understand it's their ship. My point is it splits up crews. If you want progression, well, you better hope another friend doesn't.

That why they have Pirate Milestones....

The Pirate milestones are not the same thing. Moot point.

    They do.

I know they do, that's my point. This new progression for Captain ships goes against that value.

Correct, since they are the Captain of 'Their Ship'

    Already addressed.

Seems weird for a game that was supposed to suggest all crew members are equal and it should be based on a democracy.

I totally agree, it seems like a cheap ploy to get people to play longer. Considering 4 hours is a decent session, I think other captains should get progress for their same ship as well. Otherwise no ones gonna make any progress with how many ships people jump around to.

  • That ping situation does sound like a predicament, but that's maybe something on the network side they need to fix. Captaincy is supposed to be progression system that rewards only the Captain and his ship. Rare wants the experienced players to be training other pirates while their experienced main crew is off getting their Captained ships upgraded.

  • @loaf-cat1384

As it stands now. The only extra progress the captain gets is for the log books, banner, ship crests and the title.

The new cabin cosmetics can be earned as a crew aboard a captain ship. The trinkets are also tied to the players and not the ship.

If you want to get the legendary status for unlocking more than one ship simply AFK while sleeping on your ship or play a shanty and AFK. If you choose to go this way, you need to occasionally wake up or stop playing the shanty for it to take effect

  • At first, when this update dropped, I kinda thought it wasn’t great that they had done it this way. However, it really makes little to no difference to me who’s ship I play on All the trinkets are locked behind the pirate milestones anyway. There is very little that is locked for the ship, and what is, is all very easily obtained over a few sessions.

  • Honestly the only trinkets I am interesting in chasing is those trophy fish mantles!

  • I think progress made inside a crew of whichever size should apply to all crew members, furthermore I think all the unlocks should be pirate-bound and not per-ship. It makes no real sense to me making players grind X thing Y amount of times to get the same flag/banner they already have on another... We are the same person behind these actions so why can't the game treat it that way? Doing it the way it is now is just tedious and not fun.
It'd also help if the milestone window was more easy to navigate. Can we just get an overview over all the things possible to pin and then checkmark it rather than going into every single little thing and choosing to pin it, then having to go out of all the layers of menu to check for another.... Literally why- makes me not want to play which is 100% the opposite of what Rare is hoping for (especially when if I play solo I am only bombarded with crews that don't choose to communicate but just blindly kill to gain an empty vessel?)... Why should I not be allowed to use my crew-progress rewards (when I captain our crew brig/gally) on my sloop? Or at the very least let the progress of a crew made on a ship apply to all the smaller ones as well. So if crew is on a Gally let the crew earn their progress and let them apply the unlocks on all the smaller ships; brig, sloop (depending on what they have). Stop gating the progressions on the ship and instead apply them to the pirate. You're ill-fated 5? Cool. You get the ill-fated flags. Have fun customizing whichever ship you have. Don't make me do it over. What's the incentive to play solo, even, when I'd just have to do things over to gain what I just unlocked with a crew on another ship? Snooze

  • I think your friends will just need to take the hit on ping and alternate hosts. I see why this is an issue for you, but that's quite a specific scenario and doesn't seem to align with what they've aimed for with captaincy, fact they have pirate and ship milestones separate I can't see them changing anytime soon
