The Mystery Begins!

  • Has anyone tried to share a drink with Lesedi?

  • @linkz-oromus Someone in the twitter feed shared a pic with the Grog Chest with Lesedi, and they said nothing has come up.

My thoughts are there are 2 things we need to bring to Lesedi: Either the Chest of a Thousand Grogs, or we need to find some crates full of rum and bring them to her.

  • @realstyli "An illustrated image of a brother and sister pirate duo, ready to fight side by side."
What written above DeMarco? 5Y or "song tree" runes? Or 'song six'? 'song hits', 'song pirate'?
    Nothing at 5Y btw.
UPD: Song tree... Isn't it about tree for Glitterbeard? It might mean you need two 4-man crews to open Glitterberd house and bring Chest of a Thousand Grogs there. hope it's not what they meant lol

  • @danileros

It's from the Sea of Thieves Vol 1 Comic Book... that says 5%

Here's the original cover for comparison:

You can see it larger if you click on the image on the Fandom Wiki page:

  • @realstyli So good I'm wrong.

  • Has anyone tried sharing a drink with another crew at Sea Dog's Rest? Also what chest are they talking about that opens up when sharing a drink? There's no other chests on that island anywhere. Unless we gotta figure out the clue first for one to pop up.

  • Trying to deliver a rum
I've tried to give her a box of rum. Although there vas no result, it demonstrates that she accepts a delivery. It could be generic text for getting close to an npc with a box, but if not... Than we need to give her something specific. Special for two of them.

  • @danileros
What about the Grog chest? I'm sure it could refill tankards so wouldn't that count as sharing? I saw pics of people dropping the chest before her, but I'm not sure if they actually tried to turn it in to her.

  • @capt-brookes Getting it is a little bit random. I'm sure people would notice if there will be any text like in my case.
In comics it was 'chest of unfired pistol' and it was containing a cursed pistol that disables guns and kegs. I'm pretty sure interacting with chest of 1000 grogs is just a waste of time. I wouldn't bother myself giving a crate of rum as well, but for some reason there was one spawned right next to her.
If this tweet is a hint (I do think so), then it must be something to do with 'sharing a drink with other crew for 1000 times'. Because devs like giving such a tasks. You know, 'friendly community working together, not just one person'. I highly doubt they added some special 'chest' that we must to deliver to her. Although if it is, than maybe Lesedi-DeMarco conversation discussed later has some clues to find it.
Btw, music box still playing 'row the boat'

  • @danileros why not try crate of devils rum maybe :)

  • Another potential lead...

    Tweet says:

💀 Fallen Sea Dog Lantern 💀

A lantern found in a sunken chest near Sea Dog's Rest. Surprisingly, it still works...

    #SoTGear

    And has this image:
    alt text

If you look closely at the top of the lantern, there is a hidden "C"... part of map grid reference?

    alt text

  • @realstyli That's definitely is a clue. It also can mean 100 for Romanian numeric?

  • I have no idea if this is a clue or not, but I have seen a few cases on Reddit and others where the description of the Ruffian Sea Dog cosmetic items (such as the Ruffian Sea Dog Boots) don't have normal text, but instead a "/" followed by a string of numbers and text. I tried going to "Seaofthieves.com/" and then the string, but I didn't get anything. I am not sure if it is some kind of code, a bug/glitch, or something else entirely.

  • @maximusarael020 Those are string reference codes used for localization. They are showing because the game was unable to load the string localized in whatever language they are using because either Rare forgot to include it in the last update, or the file is missing/corrupt on that persons computer/console.

  • Has anyone tried handing an empty Chest of a Thousand Grogs to Lesedi? Quite the effort emptying but it can be done… 🤔

The only tenuous link to the grog chest is the tweet that was about a completely different chest (it's pictured in the comics, I believe, and has two mugs sitting on the top of it) which held a pistol which is now hanging in the Arena Tavern.

I'm pretty sure the Grog chest ideas lead nowhere.

  • @d3adst1ck
Gotcha. Thanks for the info. I'll stop running it through code-breaking programs now.

  • @d3adst1ck
Plus I think trying to empty a chest of 1000 grogs would take quite some time to do. I don't think that'd be the answer.

Has anyone tried to drink with another player from a different crew at Sea Dog's Rest to see if that did anything? Is there a possibility that this chest could appear after two have shared a drink?

  • @capt-brookes
I have nothing to back this up, but my gut feeling is that if this chest exists it would have to be procured before sharing the drinks, as the story talks about them sharing the drinks making the chest open, not appear. I could be wrong, but if the 2-person drinking chest is a thing, my guess is that players would have to find it first. Not a bad thought though.

  • On wonders refuge there is a hidden note on one of the grave stones visible by using the fallen sea dog lantern saying (Do you think I'll just get over this)

On mermaids hide away there are two skeletons near the beach and a broken row boat if you use the seadog lantern it shows a hidden note stuck with a knife saying (As if you could)

On lone cove there is a grave using the sea dog lantern a hidden note says (your the last person I exepted to see out here)

That was part of a previous step in the Mystery. After the community retweeted their music box tweet 2,000 times (MM) they activated it in-game, and it was playing "Seek The Dead". This led players to check the graves throughout the game and they found the first segments of a conversation between {at least} two people.

The next step was the MMM and cloud/wind symbol on the music box, which led folks to finding keys hidden on this website (my best guess is that MMM was actually WWW upside down). Go back through this thread to see the keys.

Success with the keys "wound up" the music box (wind was a play on words) and it started playing "Row, Row, Row Yer Boat", which led players to search the beached broken rowboats throughout the world. The second set of conversation pieces was found - though we still don't know the exact order.

Now we're watching for more clues. We got a tweet giving us trivia about a chest that could only be opened by "sharing a drink".

DeMarco and Lesedi had a tempestuous relationship growing up. The squabbling siblings were encouraged to reconcile by the Pirate Lord, who guided them to the Sea of Thieves and left them a chest that could only be opened by sharing a drink

A tweet of the lionfish costume followed yesterday, and seemed to have a hidden "3", "E" or "W" in it but I am not 100% convinced of that one yet. They have resurfaced that tweet though by adding a poll, so it may have significance.

However, yesterday, they also tweeted out the lantern pic above and there is clearly a "C" hidden in it.

If we assume the lionfish tweet was a "3" and add it to the "C", the co-ordinates lead to (roughly) the Treasury of Sunken Shores. That could be our next stop? I haven't yet had a chance to check though.

  • @realstyli
Logging on and on route to the Treasury. Not too sure if there's anything there but I'll take a look see. Will keep this post updated if I find anything!
EDIT: Found nothing around the Treasury. Not sure what the clues could mean, unless I missed something

  • they did mention that some clues may be buried, your looking for a chest...., the only odd thing ive seen thus far is the "snake" cooking picture, someone mentioned one of the rocks in the picture isnt in game. maybe we are suppose to be digging?

  • The letter C is referenced twice, once when marking the islands with the rowboat notes, and again on the lantern. One Island looks like that same shape, Crescent Isle. On the island in the cave where the vault is you see C's on the wall. If you walk to the back on the left side there is a journal title "Becalmed". It reads:

"Our ship, she dreams of wind in her sails, of wind in her sails unfurled. And shining as we cross the sea, we cross the sea for home. Then we'll all raise our voices, a song in our hearts. And set our eyes on distant shores with wind in her sails again. There'll be cheering and calling. No more squabbling and brawling. When we have the wind in our sails. When we have our feet on the ground. We'll sow our good fortune around. There'll be feasting and pleasure. No more rationing and measure. When we have the wind in our sails."

  • @kirafate That's the shanty that's used to open GlitterBeard home. Oh no, here we go again. I hope this book is not a part of mystery.

  • @realstyli
We could try retweeting the post 100 times. Its at 90 right now.

  • @kirafate said in The Mystery Begins!:

I really don't think that will do anything. The last time we had to retweet it was clear because it was indicated with a symbol close to the "MM". They also got a lot of backlash for doing that, so I would hope they learned not to do that again.

I'm inclined to think that if the C isn't part of co-ordinates then it stands for something... perhaps "chest", "cup", or "chalice" - which fit in with the lore around the chest that was given to DeMarco and Lesedi and "could only be opened by sharing a drink".

  • @realstyli
The original murder Mystery video has the Two skeletons with tankards In hand on plunder Island, with a picture of a chalice or Cup, grail on the wall. Not that I know if this has Any relevance. Do think graves n such that has been part of the Mystery, were also on that video

  • Okay I'm not sure if this is something of importance, but the one tween Rare posted about the ship names? All four of them have the letter M in them. Is that something we should ponder about? Just thought to throw it out there.

  • I went and read through the original Sea of Thieves comics that were referenced in the DeMarco and Lesedi Trivia Tuesday post about the chest that opens when they share a drink, and that chest was found on Discovery Ridge. I scoured the island with the lantern, but didn't find anything. :-(

You may have been on the money here. A new clue dropped today:

I believe it's asking for 4000 turn keys and likes on the post.

  • Is it pretty safe to say none of the mystery is lore based and it is like:

    • Clue is dropped to point to which Social Media to push
    • Song changes on music box once achieved & Rare then adds ghost notes to game
    • New song gives hint to locations to next set of ghost notes to fill in the blanks of a conversation revealing what happened.

    Rinse Repeat?

I wouldn't say none of the Mystery itself is lore-based, we are getting bits and pieces about DeMarco and Lesedi, as well as a conversation that will end up as Lore once we identify both parties.

But I do agree and I am also disappointed that the ways we are progressing the Mystery are all outside the game and purely at the discretion of Rare social media team. It makes the steps feel unconnected in some ways.

I wish that at least some steps that moved the Mystery forward were tied to in-game actions. Such as, if the clue were "coffee", for example, we would have to turn in a certain amount of antiquated coffee in-game and that would move it forward.

It feels like the notes don't lead to the next step, as such, there's no continuity and it's just whenever Rare feels like dropping the next part of the Mystery. Unless it's based on how many read the notes? It doesn't feel like that though.

I want to know how it ends but, at the same time, it's not scratching my brain the same way a good puzzle game does.

  • Kinda reminds me of the one episode of Scooby Doo where the crew had to retweet to get the next clue....

    ... wait that never happened.

I think with the way this mystery is heading I think I'm gonna pass on the rest of it. If there's another item to grab I'll go grab it when it comes out, like how we got the lantern, but I'll just wait and see how the rest of this plays out. Kinda disappointed in this mystery and how it's being progressed.

What are these other clues even supposed to mean? We get things in images like a backwards E, the letter C on the lantern on another image, most of what I'm seeing is they don't mean much of anything. The only 'real' clues we get are from this media sharing bit where we get the ghost notes around the map, which only lead to a conversation. Hopefully the next set of dialogue can give us something to actually work with, like where to go, who to seek, something, otherwise I think I'll rather be sailing around looking for loot.

Kinda wish it was more like first clue leads to something in world, then that clue leads to another on their site, then goes back and forth until we solve it. It's mostly just been a waiting game that I've lost interest in.

I will say I do want to give Rare a lil' bit of credit in trying to be creative and unique about the mystery, but if future mysteries are to be like this I'm gonna pass.

  • I recently found out about this whole Murder Mystery thing and am very excited! But it's kinda hard to catch up and besides the announcement video I haven't found much offical... Is there some sort of clue collection or anything else that summarizes this a bit?
