Preview Clothing Sets/Clothing Set Slots

  • Howdy, I had an idea for some kind of preview toggle in the clothing shop for entire sets. For instance, if you're hovering over a certain piece it shows your pirate in just that piece, but it would be cool if there was also like a "See Full Set" or "Try On Set" toggle option so you can see what your pirate would look like in the full tableau. Sometimes it's tough to get the full picture of how a set will look on your pirate when you have to go piece by piece. And from that there could even be an "Equip Set" option in your clothing chest so you could quickly equip entire sets as a whole (or however many pieces you owned) instead of going piece by piece. There could even be a few clothing slots you could save entire or mix-matched sets to so you could quickly switch on the fly.
    What do y'all think?

  • If I were a shopkeeper, and you tried on the clothes I sell in my shop without paying, you can certainly bet that I would shoot you dead before you even thought about walking out the door - then I'll stitch up the holes and hang them back up on the rack for an actual customer.

...because you just can't trust pirates!

  • @galactic-geek
Being able to try on clothes is literally how actual shops work, my guy...

  • Let's all be thankful that @galactic-geek doesn't actually run a clothing shop

Customer: 'Do you have a fitting room?'

Geek: 'Of course! Right this way.'

    ~a few minutes later~

    Customer: 'How do I look?'

    Geek: '...'

    Gunshot reverberates through the shop

  • These aren't your typical shops. These shops be run by pirates.

I haven't heard of a policy so harsh since my vhs collection policy in the 90's when my friends would want to borrow the cult classics

  • @galactic-geek
So you'd actually prefer we not be able to try anything on at all? Just have a small thumbnail picture of what we're buying without actually knowing if it would look good on our pirates or not? That would hinder the game, not help it.

Use your imagination. I'm sure you have 1.

  • @galactic-geek
I guess I just hoped this suggestion post would be taken a bit more seriously, oh well...

  • @galactic-geek that’s not helpful.

Yes a preview would be pretty nice. Like the clothing store with it on your character. Although I’m not sure it’s needed outside of clothes/vanity for your character.

  • @ninja-naranja Do you know what is helpful? Asking a crewmate who already has the set to show it to you. I happily showing off all of the time!

  • @galactic-geek oh yes I’ll just ask my friend who has every Dark Adventure cosmetic to show me them all, IF I HAD ONE.

Jokes aside, not everyone has that luxury. Besides, practically it would make more sense to have a preview than to ask a bunch of people whether they have a cosmetic or not.

Sidenote: if there is anyone that’s interested in ship cosmetics, I heard there’s a pretty cool Instagram called SoT Shipwright where they show off ship cosmetics in game and how to get them. It’s definitely not me in a different account that’s for sure.

What about the sets that aren't complete? ...of which there are many. How would those preview? As incomplete? At all? Many don't have shirts. And what about the dresses - will those count or not? 'Cause if not, then you're being sexist and not inclusive; 'cause if so, you're being inclusive, but still sexist because it hides everything else. It just doesn't work! Easier to just show the individual cosmetics like it already does now.

The only issue I see are the ship cosmetic previews - for example, 1 of the newer flags has no iconography (the new Humter flag), and many of the older ship hull previews have not been updated to feature harpoon placement.

  • @galactic-geek and here I thought we were having a mature conversation. But if you’re going to start calling me sexist over your own hypotheticals then this conversation isn’t worth my time.

  • @ninja-naranja
That's why I blocked him so I won't see any of his negativity. No one needs to hear it and I can only smile knowing I won't see any of his childish retorts. :)

I wasn't calling you sexist, at least not directly. When I said you, I meant it to anyone in general who did this, as an example or regarding the act - it wasn't personal; just badly phrased. So, it technically wouldn't be you in that sense per sé - it would be Rare in that case, since they would ultimately have to be the ones to implement it, which is why I think they won't, BTW. I was simply trying to drive the point home. My apologies for the confusion.

As for the post above this 1, where @TexasGreenWolf blocked me, there's nothing I can do about that, but my posts aren't generally negative - just overtly critical (kind of like a QA auditor) - but many a pirate take things way too personally, and that seems to be the case here. Whether you choose to do the same makes no difference to me, as views are not why I post. I often provide really good, well thought out reasons for why many ideas are bad, because unlike many pirates, I can often see the bigger picture. If something comes along that is an original or good idea, I do like and give compliments, but they're generally shorter because there's not as much to say. Those kinds of ideas are few and far between though.

  • @texasgreenwolf most of what he says isn’t negative or childish. You’re welcome to block whomever you like but he wasn’t being overly negative. Although he did seem to find a lot of problems with his own hypothetical ideas.

As for your Idea I like being able to preview individual items. Whole sets would be hard I think technically. And for incomplete sets it could get confusing so some newer players.

  • @galactic-geek I think it all comes down to wording. This post was just a suggestion and I think you went a little too hard, on the negative point of view. Focusing on specific keywords instead of the broader use for this.

If your main problem has to with sets then why not individual pieces? And when it comes to ship sets the hulls wouldn’t be a problem just because the icon isn’t updated. Models look fine in game.

Either way, it’s a good idea but probably can’t happen do to technical limitations. Or else it would probably be in the game already.

Ye stole my Very difficult mostly time limited with some part requiring you win the contest, Black dog ship! However i forgive you since everyone has been reminded about the dreaded Midnight order and it totally terrifying double gunners crew!

  • @galactic-geek

First off…I’d like to apologize to you for my haste in blocking you, I have since corrected that. At first it only seemed like you didn’t care about my opinions or input and only wanted to make jokes. And then when I couldn’t see your reply’s I inferred what you were saying by others reply’s and that was my biggest mistake. I am not above admitting I was wrong.

Back to your actual constructive criticism in regards to the sets with jackets and dresses; I believe a simple fix would be to have two preview sets, one with the jacket and one with the dress to be all inclusive. In fact there is already an example of this with the Jack Sparrow costume set. There are two Sparrow costumes with the only difference between them being one has a beard and one does not.

Regarding sets that are incomplete they could simply show all parts and nothing else to highlight those items specifically, it’s just a “preview” we’re talking about after all.

For a “set preview” feature I believe this method would work perfectly to get the whole picture.
