Private Servers

  • For the love of God can we please get private servers?! I would play this game so much more if after 90 minutes in, just about to finish killing ashen lord and another crew shows up, sinks us, takes everything. So sick of wasting my time on this game.

  • @mriel413 private servers are coming, will cost money and wont have any kind of progression.

Events like the ashen Lord are marked by big glowy markers in the sky to attract other players and interactions

  • @mriel413 you will be able to soon.

You will rightfully not receive any progression or reward though.

  • There is no reward without risk.

  • What purpose would a private server serve if there is no progression though?

  • @mriel413 Private servers are going to be for community events such as Race of Legends, Sea of Champions and events that creators or anyone else puts together. For example, your favorite streamer would be able to set up an event such as tag, king of the hill, hide and seek or whatever they can come up with and set it up so that you and their other fans or anyone can join and play the event they are hosting. It will be very interesting to see what people will create. Yet the game itself has been stated by devs many times to have the risk of losing what you have to the environment or another player. You have to learn how to deal with those threats. Because the devs vision of the game is a PvEvP they have removed any progression at all from the custom servers they are working on.

Sailing around in PvE 'peace and tranquility'. You wouldn't need to come on here complaining about being sunk by pirates.

How on earth can you work towards becoming a Pirate Legend when you never encounter any other pirates?

  • Those private servers are funny too. Go to any shop or vendor, and their purchase options (at the top of the text selection) are simply nonexistent.

  • Well the whole point of the old forts was to encourage pirates to fight over them, to act as beacons to gather everyone together to fight over it. The new world events serve the same purpose, to get people to fight over the loot.

So the ones who came and "stole" your loot did the right thing. They did exactly what they were supposed to do.

And as others already said, private servers will come... and they are needed for making "movies" and special events. But they will not reward you with any progress, and rightly so.

Lets protect SoT and keep it in its unique configuration, and lets not make it into another boring single player world. Remember 50% of the value of any loot is the chance that you might loose it.

Just my couple of cents on the matter,
    Ghostfire

  • I've been a pirate legend for more than a year. OG! To do an event like the new ashen lords you have to play for hours upon hours to do just one. You have to either wait forever for one to pop up, or server hop over and over to find one. Battle it out for an hour and pray you don't get 3rd partied. Same for the tall tales, you can spend hours working on one only to come out from a cave to see a mermaid instead of your ship.

I'm just saying that there is tons of content for a PvE alone. Why not give us the option? I'll pay for it. They made the arena for PvP. They have the adventure for PvEvP. Why not give us a PvE mode..

No. I just stole a lot of ashen lord loot I hope it was yours.

  • No no no no.

  • Rule number 1: Keep an eye on the horizon from time to time.

  • @mriel413

Go play Assassins Creed 4 if you want a PvE pirate adventure where you can't have your ship sunk or loot stolen by other players. And play Sea of Thieves if you want to do voyages and fight other players. You can't pick and choose what you want this game to have just because YOU like it. If I went over to play Minecraft and then complained, "Minecraft sucks, there's no guns. I would play this game so much more if after 90 minutes in, just about to finish killing witches and a creeper shows up, kills me, and explodes my loot. So sick of wasting my time on this game.

Minecraft doesn't have guns, you knew that when you bought it, so you can't now complain that Minecraft doesn't have guns. Same way that you knew that Sea of Thieves had fighting, PvP, and stealing. You can't now complain that SOT has PvP, because you knew it did before you bought the game.

So sick of wasting my time on this game.

Tell whoever is holding you at gunpoint and forcing you to play Sea of Thieves to stop.

I don’t think you understand the point of forts, fleets, ashen lords and so on. There is a large indicator in the sky visible across the entire map for a reason. If you are going to get so mad about losing your work to another crew that you come here to demand a toddler-mode, don’t try to tackle high-profile content. If you want the rewards, you have to take the same risks as everyone else.

private servers with no progression is something nobody wants. ppl want to play and progress by themselves. Kinda like every other game every made.

  • @galactic-geek completely wrong

  • @benedge16 "dont let other people do something that has zero effect on me" these comments are the cringiest of the cringe

private servers with no progression is something nobody wants.

quite a few communities within the larger SoT communities wnat this, to create their own events and minigames

ppl want to play and progress by themselves. Kinda like every other game every made.

apart from any other Shared world Online Multiplayer game

As far as I know, Rare is the only group with the ability to determine what players can and cannot do. No one here is stopping anyone. You are cringing at the wrong group.

  • @mriel413 they ARE adding private servers soon

But taking players away from the ecosystem and allowing people to to the hardest events or most lucrative voyage in absolute safety instead of taking the same risk as everyone does affects others. People in denial of what the game is about are the cringiest really.

Seems like its time for the game devs and producers' reminder on PVE servers and their vision of the game!

Joe Neate: "The whole core premise of SOT is that it’s a shared world. To get to Pirate Legend, there will be danger and there will be other players, the risk and the reward is all part of it …that’s what SOT has always been, it’s a shared world adventure game, there is a purpose to that…it’s all about a shared world and we have no intention to deviate from that."

    https://youtu.be/e_yrN70591Q?t=3578

We don't want to split players, we don't want to split player types, the whole identity of sea of thieves is a shared world and the different kind of motivations within it.

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/112764/the-thinking-behind-emissaries-and-ledgers?page=1

We want players to experience the thrill of a player ship versus another player ship in battle. Turning the chance of these encounters off completely has never felt like Sea of Thieves.

    So what have we learned?

    • Player interactions are working as intended and the way they are by design, and on purpose.
    • There is no intentions of changing and unbalancing them.

Sore losers can create as many new threads or new accounts to ask the same thing over and over again, it won't change these facts.

Enjoy the progression-less private servers, take a moment to chill and play in peace at your own pace, and maybe practice a bit with your mates for when you come back to regular servers yeah?

  • @mriel413 lol they didn't make arena for pvp they made it for a condensed sea of thieves. that way you don't have commit to a full session.

what you dont understand is this is a pvpve game. players are the only real threat.

  • Today my son tried to play ... he was alone in an empty sloop and a galleon with 4 "adult" players started to kill him repeatedly ... he did not know the "scuttle" option .. If pvp can be fun ... Harassment is still a problem.

When I play RDO the players have the choice to activate or not the pvp ... It allows me to attack only the players ready to take the risk of the confrontation.

The others, I leave them alone and that in no way affects my pleasure of playing.

I have the impression that here PVP players do not want to consider the possibility of leaving others alone to think only of their own pleasure of playing as they see fit.

  • Jeez, lol. Yall are more butt hurt about this topic more than me. 😂 No need to get hostile. Just trying to have a conversation here.

Why be so against it though? Everyone's so quick to say, if you don't like PvP go play another game.. Well you wouldn't have to join a private server and play solo, so why do care? The people who would pay for a private server would be supporting sea of thieves monetarily thus supporting them further for future updates.

Nobody is against progression-less private servers, hence why the devs will be adding them in a short future! Rejoice, your dream is coming true! 🎉

    I want it.

Who elected you the speaker of the people?

    Cringe......

  • @theyspraythesky what is the point of attaining cosmetics and titles? To show off to others that you have done something? If so, doing them on a private or PvE server with no risk would mean people could care less. Therefore, no progression if you play in a safe space bubble.

If attaining cosmetics means nothing, having no progression should not matter at all. Experiencing the game should be the enjoyment.

players are the only real threat.

While soloing an Athena voyage this morning, I died from skeletons at least 3x, and then had my sloop with my Athena emmisary flag sink for no apparent reason whatsoever - it didn't even have any holes!

There are plenty of real threats. Other pirates just happen to be the biggest.

@theySPRAYtheSKY The forum community doesn't bully others - we merely express facts and reasonable opinions without relying on our emotions or being to quick to request that Rare change their core vision.

  • @theyspraythesky

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/news/custom-servers-update

    Key features:

    • Ability to set up a Custom Adventure Server
    • Customisation of ship numbers and types prior to starting
    • Generation of a code to distribute to community members to allow them to join
    • No gold or reputation progression from Custom Server sessions

It’s not cringe to have a different opinion

Nor is it hostile to explain why it's wrong.

Now you lot, make yourselves useful and get on the insider and help testing this incoming feature once it comes!

  • As many others said, the game is forcing encounters around specific events and it is part of what makes it exciting (maybe not so much for me, but still, I can understand why others would look for that kind of rush). I think the main reason people actually asked for private servers though is to avoid toxic behaviors. There's a fine margin between playing it fair in PvP and bullying your opponents that some people don't seem to grasp.

I ended up uninstalling the game and writing a negative review, not because of the game itself but because people do not know when they're crossing that line, and it literally made me sick every time I played until I decided to stop. Just to give a bit of context, I bought the game recently and played about 40 hours on my own, since none of my friends have the game. I've yet to encounter anyone who wouldn't insult me repeatedly and hunt me down for hours. When I reinstalled the game weeks later to give it another chance, I've been bullied twice in an hour, and couldn't even complete any quest. I felt just as sick as the first time, being tracked down by their crew clearly enjoying it... There is no good excuse for that behavior (IRL or otherwise).

I won't launch the game anymore until something has been done to fix that, with private servers or otherwise. Currently, the only option is to scuttle your ship (also abandoning the active quest and/or your loot) and I don't think that's good enough. I'm far from being alone in this case, just look at the negative reviews on Steam: toxicity is so out of control that even when commenting reviews, people are being very judgemental and aggressive towards its author. Just because it's online (or "just a game") doesn't make it less violent.

I don't quite want private servers, let alone with no rewards, but we should stop pretending bullying is not also part of the issue somehow. I'd gladly leave private servers to roleplayers if human players in Adventure mode weren't so toxic... Some people say it's a minority but I beg to differ, my own experience with the game (as short as it may be) says otherwise. I may give the game another chance once private servers are up, even if it means no rewards I'd still enjoy PvE content. But what I would much rather see is Adventure mode where people have tools against these toxic behaviors. I want to enjoy the full game, with fair fights and friendly encounters once in a while, without having to worry about losing 2 hours to bullies with no respect for anything/anyone but themselves. If it cannot be done, then yes, private servers with rewards (even if only 10%) might be the only option left. I shouldn't be the one paying for what they're forcing the game to be, being limited to PvE with no rewards makes it even worse and is almost encouraging their behavior.
