I feel as though this arena game mode would be very popular. I certainly would play many sessions of this...
Naval Seige.
A new island uncovered in the shroud exclusively for this arena match.
A lone castle on a small island, decked with cannons, choke points and an underground cave system.
The server is split into 2 teams.
Attackers and defenders.
Attackers Spawn far away from castle in a fleet and sail towards the castle. Enough time for the defenders to prepare and have a pre-match huddle.
Attackers have infinite ships meaning they will respawn as usual but in the starting position they spawned in. (So death is still punishing for them)
The attackers must reach the castle, and fire at the walls and defenders manning cannons on the parapets to breach it. (Firing yourself out of a cannon into the castle won't work)
Once breached the defenders can enter the main courtyard. Their aim is to set off a megakeg in the underground cavern below the castle... Which causes the castle to crumble and collapse ending the game and scoring a win for the attackers. It will be a gruelling fight and a game of tug and war. Through many choke points, twists and turns. Spawn management will need to be looked at to ensure optimum balance.
Some defenders spawn in the castle barracks. There are several buildings they can spawn in upon death but they will be strategically placed away from choke points and places near the megakeg.
The rest of the defenders spawn in ships which only have 1 life. So once sunk, they sunk. The aim of the defending fleet is to attack the attackers, delaying them and harassing them as much as possible.
Once the fleet is defeated they spawn on the castle as regular defenders do.
Their objective is to hold out until time is over to score a win.
They can gradually repair broken walls but it is very slow meaning they can only really achieve a full repair if there is no interruption. So these areas will need to be cleared of attackers (or the repairer protected from attack) Multiple repairers will not speed this up meaning the remainder will need to focus on defending.
After the timer is ended or the megakeg is lit a winner is declared.
Next game if you were an attacker you will join defenders and vise-versa. Or perhaps can vote on which you wanna be and have some sort of balancing thing play its part in background.
Eitherway...its better than fighting over chests for 15 minutes.
