Character slots

  • I’m a pirate legend and Athena 10 and whenever there’s nothing to do, I always want to make a new character just so there’s something to do. However, it involves deleting your first character. So I think it would be a great if character slots were a thing, maybe just 5 or 10, or just as many as people want.

  • Have you considered playing on the test server? That way you can play a different pirate, test new content and even get rewarded for doing so.

  • I guess I could give that a try.

  • Character slots would be amazing. Imagine this:

Deleting a pirate would restart your progress in the factions, but anything you have achieved (Day 1 Patch. Launch Crew EoR, etc) would be bound to your account, not to the character. All achievements you have attained would be retained but you would have to make the grind to PL and A10 over again. It would sorta be like a Sea of Thieves version of "new game+"?

Main thing is the ability to change the look of the character without losing stuff we can never get back.

  • I just miss the dings of the rep counter on my character on the live server.

  • You could always just make a new account entirely if you have your main sharing xbox live or whatever. Not sure for PC but you can do that on Xbox, I have a new pirate with my second account and it didnt cost me anything bcuz I have xbox live being shared from my main account through the same device.

The only problem with that would be having to find all your friends searching through your main account's info if you wanted to reconnect with them.

Your insider character's progression resets now. I think having the ability to have more than one character is great. However, a simple character editor I think would resolve most of these issues or simply more content.

  • @contentzilla I did not realize that they reset now, I was wondering why I it seemed like my pirate got erased.

  • I don't like the idea because it promotes faking people out in terms of skill/experience, which is already a thing, but I fear such a thing would become far worse with such a feature.

  • @galactic-geek I'm not sure how this could be used advantageously any more than not having any cosmetics?

I think an extra slot or two would have no real affect on the game, except those bored with their current pirate might be more encouraged to play.

  • I like this idea, but I would just prefer if we could change the way our characters looked, like their physical features.

  • @corvum-mortis I would much prefer just having the ability to change the appearance of the pirates we already have.

What I find interesting is that @BenH6803 wants a new pirate because he's bored. Everything he wants from a new pirate, he can already do with his PL, so there's really no reason to go backwards. Furthermore, he's complaining when the biggest update ever for the game is just around the corner - he may be bored now, but he won't be for long...

  • @galactic-geek I'd be fine with the option to change appearance too, but other than not recognizing a name, I fail to see the drawbacks of multiple slots.

This doesn't mean they don't exist... So, anyone, please feel free to elaborate and help me understand.

  • @corvum-mortis Well, I don't see the advantages either. It's just another option that's really unnecessary because it offers nothing truly useful. If he really wants to start over, he has that option - he just doesn't want to lose all of his hard work (which, of course, is understandable). I'm sorry, but until Rare comes up with something, he can't have his cake and eat it too.

  • @galactic-geek Imo, that is something useful. The ability to play the game as a fresh player. I do this very often in games that I really enjoy.

But, when they don't offer the option without a full reset, I generally end up not playing as much or at all, simply to avoid deleting the years of work that I've put towards that character.

When the option is offered, I will usually continue playing as a fresh spawn for a while, then go back to my original character with a renewed desire to play it. Or, I will play one character drastically differently from the other.

If the addition were something that would take an excessive amount of work, I would prefer the developers spend time elsewhere.

But I truly believe this option would help extend the length of time regular players enjoy the game, rather than moving on to something else, just to preserve their current progress.

  • @corvum-mortis Um, okay I guess - but please tell me what starting over offers (other than re-customizing your pirate, of course) that already being a PL doesn't already offer? If anything, as you've already said, you would lose out on certain things. IMO, there is no inherent advantage to starting over other than having the ability to re-customize your pirate. Fix that by adding in the ability to (fully) customize your pirate without starting over, and I believe this whole thing would become a non issue.

In regards to voyages, starting over gets you nothing, because as a PL, you can always redo the voyages. For example, want to redo the Bone Throne challenge? Go ahead! Recruit someone who hasn't done it, and live vicariously through them! If length of voyage is an issue, and you want shorter voyages, just re-purchase them until you find one - they do exist, and I'm sure you'll have enough gold at PL to throw away on finding which one best fits just right for you. Even if you don't find one, there's nothing wrong with doing a partial voyage.

I'm willing to bet, that come April 30th, this will no longer even be an issue for the OP, because as I have already said, there will be plenty more to do.

  • @galactic-geek mh, I never said there was an advantage or benefit or anything. I'm simply saying it's a nice feature that, in my case, would keep me playing more.

What's your argument? You don't care about it so it's unnecessary? If it's an easy addition, what's the problem?

My argument is that it will extend the length of time a veteran is an active player.

I like multiple play through without losing months or years of progress.

  • @corvum-mortis Why can't anyone ever be happy with what they've earned? It's like going from CEO to cooking for this guy!

  • @galactic-geek It offers the opportunity to try a different route to PL... to see if you can make it there by making different choices. Even more true now that there are two more factions that can get one to PL.

But, @BenH6803, I recommend adding another account via Family Share. I've got 5 different pirates now.

  • @galactic-geek You obviously have no interest in having a real discussion. Thanks for making that clear. Blocked.

  • What they should do (with out sounding like a cod nerd) is let us prestige, once we hit PL we can prestige, keeping our cosmetics but starting from 1 again and once you hit PL again you can model change, they could add more rewards for prestiging further than just once which could be cool....

    Plot twist:

The Mysterious Stranger is actually a plastic surgeon and that's the fame and fortune he's offering when you become a legend:

The Sea of Thieves Witness Protection Program

No absolutely No. That’s not World of Warcraft, it’s an immersive Pirate World! When you want an new Character create one on another Account for free!

  • I don't get why you'd want to grind again to pirate Legend. Maybe add quick activities. There's one new faction that's coming that can quench your desire probably

Because there's nothing for PLs to do than grief and gives us reason to continue playing the game and keep that spark alive, because I'm telling you, you definitely get dopamine highs getting those levels and miss them after a year but don't wanna lose what you worked for completely :(

  • I agree having additional character slots would be nice. Friend's and I have talked about how nice it would be to even retain rank but have a list of 'favorite pirates' to switch between. Feel like looking like a twig today? Play a skinny character. Want to look like you can beat your enemy's over the head with their own cannon? Play the buff character today.

If we did get additional character slots, I would personally like it if you leveled faster on the alternate character's, once you've gotten max rank in a faction. So you made it to max in gold hoarders eh? now you level faster with gold hoarders. Max athena? now you grind faster with athena voyages. That way you'd still have to level something to max before you get them boosts, instead of switching to an alt to level the new factions up faster. Anyways just my thought's, would just love having additional character slots beyond the insider program.
