Horrible for solo players

  • Sea of thieves is basically unbalanced for solo sloop players now. Took me over an 1.5 hrs to get some loot and out of no where a ghost ship comes out and sinks me. Come back loots gone....Ghost ships for solo sloop players are OP...go back to looting and had maybe another 5 chest and yet again a ghost ship shows up ALONG with a shark and both attack me. ONCE again sink me causing me to lose my loot. 5 mins go by and I dont have any loot at all and the Kraken shows up and sinks me. First time I have played the game in months and this is what I come back to. Multiple players on a ship can probably have no problem but as far as single player it seems like it is now nearly impossible to gain anything unless you are constantly going back to drop. Used to have fun with this game but not anymore. With all the bots attacking that doesnt including other Real players trying to sink you. When you have a ghost ship with 4 different skeletons shooting at you it is very difficult to repair your sloop enough to even fight back. This game caters to muliti players now. No longer fun as a solo player. Thanks for ruining it for single players. ........

  • @cozystatistic21 ANOTHER thread, exact the same...there is a search function, you know?

And now the answer...I play a lot solo, and it's balanced just fine...skellie ships are tough, yes. But overpowered? No way!
If it's too hard for you, I'd say you go search for a crew...

  • @cozystatistic21 before the wall of “git gud” and “solo is supposed to be hard mode” texts show up, I am going to agree that skeleton ships are potentially OP against solo sloopers. Depending on which ccb the skele ship is, it can definitely be overwhelming.

Quick fix: skeleton sloops spawn randomly on player sloops instead of skeleton galleons.

  • @cozystatistic21 You do realize the game is not meant to be played solo, right? Solo slooping is possible but you're meant to meet friends along the way and play in crews.

I'm a solo slooper in my free time, and you're right if it isn't darned hard, but it's doable. I just made 10k in one session last time I played solo, and that was with escaping two skeleton ships, avoiding a brig of hostiles, and solo killing a kraken. Skeleton ships are easy to run from if you aren't stupid about it, megs go away if you dock near islands, and players are so easy to spot and avoid if you're vigilant. You just need to either train yourself to have the functionality of two people in one, or find a crew of friends. Simple as that.

No need...as I said before, they are tough, but far away from op, no matter what ccb they have...

Since january I sunk about 50-60 skellie ships solo, 4 or 5 of them sunk me...op looks different

Oh I'll 100% agree skelly ships are tough. Four months of playing and I still can't easily sink one, I usually lose even when I have a friend on board too. So the answer? You learn to avoid. To outmaneuver, to use the weather, the islands and rocks to your advantage, and leave skelly ships in your dust.

  • @heavyreaper102 do the skeleton ships stop following you after a certian times/distance? I just recently started playing since the many updates. I dont mind the difficulty its just the spawn rate of things. Seemed like one thing after another was spawning on me.

  • @schwammlgott I solo very often and enjoy the challenge. Nothing gets my heart racing like heading to a skull fort with 3 hauls of fort loot onboard while a skele ship is shooting cannonballs and jigballs at me while a meg chews holes in the boat. But for the average player, I sympathize for them.

Once the April 30th update comes out, I wouldn’t be surprised if they tweak it so that random counters arent quite as common, but even then you’ll see posts about “skele ship OP for solo players” pretty often.

Wouldn’t skele sloops be more balanced for sloopers?

  • If you are struggling solo, then crew up. Its your own decision to sail solo, when you have all the tools available to not. Xbox LFG SoT Discord help a lot to find like minded people. Your playing the game in the hardest capacity. Either "Git Gud" or crew up, your choice.

Trust me I'm not even gonna give you the "git gud" speech man. There's nothing wrong with outrunning.
Yes, if you put enough distance between you and a skeleton ship they'll stop chasing you. It depends on what ship you're on, in your case (a sloop) It should be easy because the sloop is currently the fastest ship to sail against the wind. Just do some maneuvers around the islands, make sure not to slow down or stop, and they'll give up and resume sailing around idly.

  • @they-sank I like the skeleton sloop idea. I just couldn't keep up with repairs and shooting back because I had to get to an island to stop yhe meg from attacking. Kept putting me to sleep with the cursed cannons.

  • Rowboat is a solo sloops second life. Before doing any solo sailing actively look for a rowboat. If the situation is looking dire load up the rowboat with your plunder and supplies and abandon ship. Sometimes retreating is the better option. The AI doesn’t target the rowboat. However I think the kraken can suck you off the oars.

  • @schwammlgott I work alot so its hard to find people to crew up with on a regular basis. If I join with randoms alot of people just quit without warning.

  • I see you've already been told to stick with it.
The Solo sloop is a lot harder and a lot of die hard solo sloopers want to protect that difficulty. I too feel that nerfing the sloop gameplay would be a detrement to the game but I sail a Galleon most of the time and I've got even less problems with random encounters.

Something I can tell you is that there's a major update coming, and that's the first major update since the Shrouded spoils that introduced the Roaming skeleton ships. So here's to hoping that Rare has ajusted something.
I also feel that maybe (just maybe IDK) the extended ship damage extends to skeleton ships too. Being able to destroy masts/ capstan/wheel on a skeleton ship and blow bigger holes in its sides might help a lot in fighting them even on a sloop. But we'll see how that turns out the 30th.

Before that date all I can tell you is to:
    A. Stick with it and grow your skills as a pirate. Losing isnt bad, if you never lose the game wouldn't be fun because there's no challenge. Grow as a pirate and a player and overcome the challenge, once you do you'll look back on this post and laugh.
    B. Get a crew together. Yes that's easier said then done but it's really not that much harder done, we have discord now and if it's good at one thing it's bringing people together to play games with. Just try your hand at a community and you'll see that sailing a Galleon is the most fun you'll ever have.

  • I play solo quite a lot and don't agree. Be prepared, have a rowboat, first. Know where to drive, when to wait is a must. It is demanding, very different from sailing with a crew. Don't care of losing your ship, but be prepared to be somewhere else and to handle your loot if before this happens. When you sail solo, a ship is just a tool, a distraction ... and often a bait. I even did the reapers flagged journeys mostly solo and sold every single chest, while my ship was destroyed a lot of times somewhere else, far away, somewhere on the ocean.

  • I think you would have more positive feedback on your post if you rephrase it.

"I have trouble playing solo on a sloop. Does anyone have any pointers for me, or can they direct me to a few posts as a guide?"

There are many solo sloopers that play that manage just fine, myself among them, who would be disappointed to see the environmental hazards nerfed even more than they already have been.

If you would like some pointers, many have been listed on this thread, and if you ever see me online, I'd be happy to jump onto your ship and provide you with assistance or pointers to manage these hazards on your own.

  • If a skelly ship spawns near me, I put the boat on auto pilot(which is to say, I turn the wheel and raise the sails enough so that it makes a loop). The skelly ships will pepper me with a few hits that I can repair when I'm no longer broadside to them.

That, or I take the skeleton ship into an island or into a storm. Since they don't bail the ships, a sustained rainfall sinks one in no time.

  • I gotta disagree... This morning I completed 2 fleets as solo sloop, killed couple of roaming skelly ships to add to that.

I think the answer to your struggle is experience, it matters.

  • @heavyreaper102 I'm gonna have to pull a Dark Souls and say, GIT GUD

  • @cozystatistic21

Well for one thing, solo play IS the hardest game play style. New players always gravitate towards solo for their first experience which is a big mistake as a new player. You shouldn't go solo unless you are experienced and up for a challenge.

Solo play is still very much doable, I play solo here and there. But I always feel like I'm missing out on the majority of the fun of Sea of Thieves when I play solo.

Sorry to say this, but I don't think solo play is a priority to Rare. When push comes to shove, Rare are likely going to continue to enrich the multiplayer experience. The experience of playing with others, and the experience of playing in the shared world. This is the main attraction of Sea of Thieves.

Solo players must continue to adapt and understand that they've put themselves in a harder version of the game by choosing solo play.

  • To be fair, skeleton ships are incredibly difficult to tackle solo, but it's not impossible to escape them. It just takes a little handle some tactical thinking.

My favourite maneuver, the Crazy Ivan, is a good one. If they're sailing in the same direction as you and chasing you, turn your wheel all the way to one direction, pull your anchor, and immediately raise it. You'll be angled 180 from the direction you were previously, and they'll take a much longer time turning around.

Of course, they might still catch up. But this maneuver can buy you some time to find an island. Skeletons are notoriously stupid sailors (their brains have rotted away, you see) so they easily crash into islands. This can keep them stuck long enough for you to get far away, and they'll give up the chase.

The Kraken is definitely beatable, so long as you have cannonballs. Just focus on aiming at the tentacles closest to the ship, where they break the water. They move less at that point.

By the way, you can tell if the Kraken is a possible foe you might encounter. If there is a skull or ship cloud in the sky, you're safe. If not, the kraken is out there waiting for someone.

If you encounter both Kraken and Skeleton Ship at the same time, well, you've had a run of extremely bad luck. I don't think that's ever happened to me while I was solo.

  • @cozystatistic21
I completely disagree. I only play solo sloop and I want more open sea challenges and risks.

Kraken is beatable in 2-5 mins, 20-30 cannonball hits.

Skeleton ship takes 10-15 min and 20-40 cannonball hits, unless you just bail water into it, then 5-10 min and 1 cannonball.

I don't often try to solo the megs... They seem to take too long. But, if you just ignore them... They rarely even attack.

And all can be pretty easily evaded.

Just takes a lot of practice (death). Enjoy the ride!

  • FIND SOME FRIENDS TO PLAY!

    Problem solved.

  • @they-sank yes yes yes

  • @targasbr not that easy when u can't use a mic

  • @krusty-boneless buy a mic, its really cheap today...

  • @targasbr

New problem.. made 43 xbox friends mostly other solo players.. i have only sot on xbox.. 4 solo sot players left the rest quit since monster madness start spawning on sloops xD

So where do i get those who dont care about losing loot or sinking sometimes? -.-

I need to pressgang some new players and become captn mayby (A)

  • Its just bad RNG, I think they shoulf turn it a bit down for solo ships but a skelly crew should be easy for a decent solo pirate. Now what really isn't fair is what happened to me yesterday. I was solo slooping it and I got hit by 2 krakens.....In the same voyage

  • Stop making same posts again and again.
Stop asking to make everithing in game EASY if you don't know how to play.
Sloop vs galleon skelly is just fine you just need stay behind them and in close range get some shots then stay close to:

    • bail water on them
    • blow barrel
    • CRYING CHEST

Use brains instead of crying on forums.
Solo sloop suppose to be HARD because u are solo in COOP game, You chose this difficulty and even after that Sloop spawn Skelly galleons are much more easier the one that spawning next to galleons.
It makes my blood boil when i see same post over and over again.

P.S. I bet those who making those treads are not even bother themselfs to get supplies/ gunpowder barrels / cursed cannonballs on their ships.

  • @ruigtand-nl I do not care about sinking or loosing, I just play to have fun and go on adventures. If you ever want a sloop co-pilot I'm in!

  • @badrobott

Well yes please do add me its way more fun sailing together! Tonight i work but then im 4 days free to play again :")

  • The game has always favoured multi-player crews. Rare have never made a secret of that being their intent. But I see your point about the RNG.

It's not great game balance when I am getting chased by a Galleon of 4 and Meg and a Skellie Ship also decide to help them out. And when I finally do get away the Kraken grabs me. If this had happened just once it would have been funny. But it's a regular occurrence.

What can I say. Solo players are the true heroes. Scared little baby, diaper-wearers hide in a crew pretending to be tough guys. Just use that philosophical approach and it's all a little easier to bear.

But yeah, the balance is out of whack. Welcome to the SoT where nothing is in balance.

Find some friends who don't use too. I play with many friends who don't have a mic. No problem here.

I started like you, i have only SoT and the games with gold games on my xbox.

I found some communities about SoT in my country and made some friends. Now, I have a "fixed" crew.

And I always thought if I can't do it by myself I'm not worthy of crewing up with anyone to do it...lol
