There are concept drawings of pipes in The Art of Sea of Thieves, and they look amazing. I'd love for them to be added to the game. Sadly, such items in the game would affect the ESRB rating in a negative manner and I don't believe Rare is willing to go there.
On the flip side, imbibing alcohol is such quantities that your pirate literally projectile vomits is okay, so maybe I'm utterly wrong on the ESRB rating.
That's what I'm trying to convey. Ratings don't necessarily make much sense.
It could also be a question of degrees, i.e. if you add one that doesn't push the rating from Teen to Mature, but put drinking and smoking together and it affects the rating. Or maybe Rare doesn't want to have that Tobacco Reference tag on the rating.
That being said, tobacco is not alcohol and vice versa. We as a society treat those two very differently.
@jayne-cee I still don't get what you're saying. Yes we treat alcohol and tobacco differently. Tabacco is more accepting than alcohol. You can smoke at work and most areas, especially in public but you cant do the same with alcohol.
By the way, I dont smoke anyway. I just would find it cool to do so in the game. Games dont make people be violent or do drugs, they're just a game.

Like I mentioned in my first post, I'd love for Rare to add the pipes as seen in the concept art. I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm merely speculating that adding smoking would somehow affect the ESRB rating in such a way that Rare isn't inclined to add tobacco.
Or maybe it has nothing to do with ESRB rating and they just haven't gotten around to adding it yet. We can dream, can't we?
