Creator Spotlight - Synicall

In our third profile supporting the Sea of Thieves Creator Crew launch, we talk to Synicall!

Pirates from all over the globe venture into the Sea of Thieves, and this one has come down (or up) from Down Under. For anyone who’s cynical about anything in Sea of Thieves we have the Australian mythbusting pirate himself, Synicall, here to prove you wrong. We asked him some questions on his adventures into the Shroud, and here’s what he had to say!

How To Capture Gameplay (Software / Hardware)

Durée 6:14

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: During the early years of my life, I was introduced to the Nintendo 64 and the GameCube by my family. Over the course of my life, I’ve used games as a way to relax and socialise with friends.

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: One of my favourite games of all time is Donkey Kong Country, so when I saw Rare had a new game coming out, I was instantly drawn to it. After seeing the first trailer, I knew Sea of Thieves was a game I could get into.

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: It almost happened overnight; I went from creating videos to save memories with my friends to having an audience that enjoys watching those memories. Over the span of three days I went from 20 subscribers to over 3000. That was the pivotal point that made it ‘my thing’.

Nobody puts Synicall in the corner!

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A]: While in the early stages of creating content, I found a fond attraction to making gaming videos. That would be what led to my decision.

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: Reminding myself that no matter what video I post, there will always be people out there who don’t enjoy the content. It is important to not let those people bring down your enthusiasm.

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: In addition to my main YouTube channel I do have a real-life channel that I occasionally post on.

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: My standout experience would be reaching Pirate Legend just before the Megalodon event released. It led to some very interesting conversations with fellow pirates.

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: I enjoy the ability to create your own fun and do whatever you want. I would love to see the possibility of some more islands and areas being added into the game!

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: Reaching Athena’s Fortune 10/Pirate Legend (the grind was real)!

The tale of a pirate cursed by gold...

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: The ‘Syn’ part of my name was inspired by a member of a band that I was heavily into… but the ‘-icall’ part was a play on the word ‘cynical’.

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: The best advice I could give is to network and collaborate with similar creators, that is a great place to gain an audience and make some new friends along the way!

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: Don’t create content for fame or financial gain. I believe that to ‘make it’ you need to really enjoy what you do. If you create videos for the fame and not the enjoyment, your true followers will notice and turn away.

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: I spend a lot of my free time creating music for personal enjoyment!
