Pirate Primer - How to Survive on Sea of Thieves!

  • I have a tip that I would like to share. If you are on an island looking for loot and you see a ship coming in towards you, go to your boat, take your treasure off the boat and hide them in the bushes. There’s a good chance that you will be engaging into combat wether you want to or not. If you end up dieing and your ship sinks just wait a little bit and go back to get your treasure that you hid.!!! That has worked for me multiple times. Just don’t do what I did one time and forget what island you were on lol

Sloop or Galleon..... the powder keg always wins.

  • one thing i found really helpful at night going around the islands hunting riddles is that there is an actual North Star in game. You see it when you see it, the one who shines the brightest at the north. Sometimes when its faster to look at the stars than the compass you might use the north star :)
Maybe when the storm is masking the compass go bananas you might see the north star through the clouds too, havent tried THAT yet tho.

  • When you are being chased and have chests and barrels, sail between tight rocks... then throw explosives overboard. that way they can't turn away from said explosives.

Another tip I found is that when you are sailing you take on water faster. But if you stop the sinking drastically slows down.

You pretty much listed my starting out routine there too... Prep yourself, scavenge, square everything away, keep eying the horizon all the while, shop, get voyages, douse lights & load cannons, get on your way... ;D

  • Play a shanty before you depart.

S'bad luck otherwise, and the Kraken will pluck you out of your hammock while you sleep.

I know there ain't hammocks... or sleep mechanics, for that matter... but if there was, you'd be plucked out of it for not playing a shanty.

So just play the shanty. <

  • Not strictly speaking survival tips, but useful things to know...

2 crew members raise or turn the sails faster than 1, that’s why there are ropes on the port and starboard side.

Don’t put more than one scroll on the Captain’s Table at a time. If you sink, you lose them.

  • We should get this thread back up and running after this recent scale test. I'm betting there's a bunch of new pirates out there that could benefit from it!!

Just came across this collection, wondering if now, after release anyone would like to add more tips and strategies?
