Assuming Captaincy for Captainless Ships

  • Allow players to assume captaincy for an uncaptained ship. They would obv. have to own the type of ship they're on in order to do so.
This could be done via a Voyage purchased from the shipwright so the crew can vote on their new Captain.

  • I agree that can be a bit disheartening when you have to restart a session because your captain left and you'd like to invit someone else or was booted from the game.

That being said, most people shouldn't be affected by the former since that require a larger playgroup. Thus having to restart anyways to get on a smaller boat.

  • Or just sell and start a fresh session on your own Captained ship? I don't understand why people are so tied to a specific server. There are no penalties for not finishing a voyage. You don't get dinged for it. It doesn't go on your permanent pirate record. Is it really that big of a deal to not have your milestone counter go up by a fraction? Finish what you're doing and then hop onto a new server with your Captained ship...or if you value that server sooo much then continue sailing on that borrowed ship and forego your Captaincy progression.

  • Think of the alliance servers….

  • People would change ship to get their milestones - a crew who just got a large haul could the change ship to get increase in milestones for turning in at the OoS, then switch ship to do the same but for Gold Hoarders.

It would totally go against the feeling that it's a Person's or a Crew's ship.

  • it should be only for the name lol
any non captained ship can do anything what a captained ship can do except earn and complete milestones.

Why are you so against this? It would literally just increase quality of life. There's no reason for a pirate crew not to be able to vote on a captain, and it would allow for people to retain their supplies and continue playing as it was even if the original captain has to leave.

So don't switch the ship. Let people get personal milestones, but not ship ones as it isn't their own ship they're captaining. My main gripe is the fact that if your captain dc's for some reason or another you simply can't interact with the sovereigns anymore, even if they reconnect.
Could also make it relatively expensive to discourage people from repeatedly swapping back and forth.

Many workarounds for your concerns, and the feature itself would help increase quality of life.

Or sell at the sovereigns, or use captains voyages, or buy extra supplies. You know, the quality of life features they added specifically for captained ships.

  • @onequackyboi622
    exactly
or else new players would feel duped that they cannot name, captain, or do anything to save time and resources by paying more than 100k gold.
i mean, won't they quit the second they see it?

If the captain disconnects and he can rejoin the session, he still should be Captain of a Captained ship; if that does not happen it is a bug and should be reported with a support ticket.
