I was thinking that the crew sizes could be altered. Some of us have different meeting times or group dynamics and I think that although private ships are a good idea this could be expanded on.
How about making the following:
Sloops - Max crew 3
Galleons - Max crew 5
or when the ~"Brig" comes along:
Sloops - Max crew 3
"Brig" - Max crew 4
Galleon - Max crew 5
It just seems that the crew size maximum isn't quite right.

I think the crew size maximums are perfectly right.
3 sails 1 wheel. 4
1 sail 1 wheel. 2
2sails 1 wheel. 3
Besides, no point in playing if the ship is always operating at peak efficiency. Good gameplay comes from having to triage situations which is why the ships might feel lacking in manpower during combat, but really it makes us communicate more and make more decisions.

As soon as you know how the ships works, you will understand the crew size is perfectly or even too high.
The sloop is balanced for a single player. The second player is already free to do anything.
The galleon can be sailed with 2-3 experienced players easily.

But this is something completely different.
The current three ship types are balanced with the max crew size they currently have.
A new ship with a larger crew size requires a proper balancing as well.
There is no need for a ship with the same handling as the galleon, but larger firepower / manpower by having more idle crew members.
Of cause a ship with larger crew size requires some disadvantges, that keep the whole crew busy.
I honestly feel that solo sloops are balanced with a full galleon. What feels wrong to me is a 2 person sloop. The added person makes it OP. Couple the maneuverability with an extra set of hands just for attacking, boarding, gunpowder, whatever, and it just gets ridiculous.
Just my opinion...and I've sailed many a duo sloop. Why wouldn't I, when they seem the most advantageous in pvp?!

@pink-geek-chic maybe with the right duo it is overpowered, we sink galleons quite a bit with just the 2 of us but if its a REALLY good crew of 4 it is balanced quite well. What it really comes down to is the best communication. a 4 man galleon with no communication is well as useless as.... you can fill in the end lol
