Season 19: Act 3 - State of Play

  • Hi everyone,

As we’ve entered the final stages of development for Last Ship Standing, the team have been working to address a number of outstanding gameplay issues. However, we are currently not on track to hit the original dates we were aiming for.

Releasing with these issues would have negatively affected your experience, and while the team have explored potential workarounds, we are unwilling to compromise our quality bar here or remove functionality you would expect from this experience such as recent improvements to Hourglass Battles.

Putting our players first means making the right call, even when it is a difficult one. Releasing the update in its current state would not meet that standard, so we have made the decision to delay the release of Last Ship Standing and our Act 3 update.

Season 19: Act 3 will now launch on Thursday, May 21st. This extra time allows us to properly address these issues and deliver the experience we know it should be.

This date shift will not impact our plans for Season 20 arriving later in June. However, it will mean a slightly shorter window for anyone working to complete the final Deeds of Season 19, so please plan accordingly!

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone in Insiders – your feedback and support have been invaluable in helping us catch these issues and improve the experience for everyone.

We appreciate your patience, and we are looking forward to getting this into your hands soon.

Since you are not moving the date, will time-limited deeds move accordingly (like has happened in the past, namely Season 18)?

    Namely this one:
"While representing Guardians of Fortune/Servants of Flame, win a Last Ship Standing match."

It's already quite hard for the casual player to assume winning against 5 other players, let alone in both Factions now in a shorter time frame. These could be their own tasks needed to complete to get the title if you still want the challenge in.

  • Y'all seriously need to let it have its full month. You're just setting yourselves up for failure yet again by not giving the season's third act it's proper amount of time just like last season, and you're gonna be struggling to keep up with your schedule.

I would bet money that if you gave last season's act 3 it's full month instead of just 2 weeks, you wouldn't be behind now. (At least not to this extent) I fail to understand why you think cutting times short just for the sake of "hitting the mark" for the next season's release date will make things easier for your development team down the line.

Players don't care about consistency to this extent, you don't have to stick to a strict schedule for seasons just to make players happy, you just have to make sure that ALL stages of development receive the proper amount of care and attention they deserve, because that's what the player base deserves.

I love this game and the content that comes with it, but it's been way too rushed lately, and we all feel it. Some respond with too much aggression, but for most of us, it's a reflection of what we've come to expect from you guys and how many times we feel let down as a result of pushing too much content in too short of a time.

I'm glad you guys are done doing acts, but each season shouldn't strictly stick to the 3 month periods. If you need more time, by all means - don't just postpone the newest release, move every date down the calendar so you don't end up backed up trying to catch up with the dates you were aiming for.

  • How are there this many problems with the majority of season 19 and season 20 content being cancelled. You would think there wouldn’t be issues with the very little content we actually get.

Also putting players first would mean giving players what they actually want, not ruining the season pass and adding nothing to the main mode the players play.

  • I understand about the delay! Although personally I’d rather have the extra time to get the Act 3 commendations rather than have Season 20 launch exactly on time.

  • Not surprised at all.

I’m glad this is the last patch of the monthly update cadence because you guys clearly just do not possess the skill necessary to deliver on that. And I mean that with respect.

Also good communication waiting 2 days before launch to announce a delay.

Guys, please start doing better. I feel like we hear all the time how things are changing and the teams are “pivoting” and being “restructured” to avoid situations like this, so we can start getting better quality content. But none of that shows any signs of having done anything beneficial at all.

  • I am willing to accept delay to have properly working update. That's a right move. However, please don't cut it short to meet deadlines. Lots of players will struggle with this one to get their deeds done and they need all time they can get.

Players that won't struggle were looking forward to playing this mode for a while now and will be disappointed to hear their fun will be cut short.

I think we will all accept having s20 delayed by one week in order to enjoy act 3 for entire month.

  • I understand needing a delay, that's fine. I'd rather not, but if that's how it has to be, so be it. However you should not be cutting the act short, especially given it's a time limited experience. I am a student and do not have a lot of time to play already. Making this, difficult to begin with, time limited act shorter is really not ok. Please just season 20 as well so we have a full month of this experience.

  • How exactly is this putting your players first? Putting your players first wouldn't be pushing through a shorter window; it would be delaying Season 20 accordingly to allow us the time to properly enjoy the content without falling back on your FOMO business plan.

  • Considering how much time you've given players to play test this mode and hype it up...it's a strange move to reduce its time for players to have access to it.

How could you not see this reaction coming...?

  • i'd rather you guys delayed Season 20

  • Don't shorten Act 3, give people a full month to participate in LSS, even if it means pushing season 20 back a week, thats simply the better and more popular approach.

How does most of this season's content get cut and there are still delays?? This is proof that the seasonal update model does not work for the devs or players, please drop it and go back to named updates every 4 or 5 months when they are ready following season 20.

  • You want to wait a week to work out any issues, makes total sense please do instead of releasing something with issues to meet a deadline.

Cutting your main attraction act of the season by a week and saying "plan accordingly" is wild.

It isn't players who need to plan accordingly, you do.

Your best bet is to make it a longer act or adjust deeds "accordingly."

  • or remove functionality you would expect from this experience such as recent improvements to Hourglass Battles.

Pardon me for reading between the lines, but this sounds like you implemented last ship standing in a vacuum, and weren't able to, (or caught it far too late) that you didn't have (at least one of the following features in place)

hourglass crates / closing circles, or fast-rematching in sinking tunnels.

Considering both of these areas of the game (hourglass and last ship standing) are both elements of the competitive nature of the game, how exactly was this only caught in the few days before release?

Last Ship Standing has been like, the only thing a lot of players have been looking forward to in SoT, in like, the last 6 months or more?

It's only stealing a week of this time limited event off of players, but, I just don't understand how it was missed, surely the SAME TEAM work on hourglass as last ship standing....~~

Edit: Took a read over insiders, it sounds like my reply is seriously off-the-mark, but given this was the impression I was given by the original post, maybe it needs it's messaging adjusting to give players a better understanding of what's going on?

  • Hello everyone,

Could you please reconsider the tasks that require finishing first with each faction? As mentioned above, these challenges can either be trivial for highly experienced players or a real nightmare for more casual players who still want to jump into the arena and try to earn all the rewards you are offering.

It would also make sense after the act duration was shortened from 4 weeks to 3 weeks.

A few suggestions for more accessible challenges:

    • Break the mast of an enemy ship
    • Hit an enemy ship with a cannon while drunk
    • Drop the anchor of an enemy ship

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

  • Mark is missing again? That dude struggles around here.

Please turn on Fight Nights starting Thursday please and run it through Sunday. We are out here itching for this update.

  • So, you guys developed an hourglass mode for months, but it'll take an extra week to integrate the hourglass changes you release 2~ months ago? Doesn't the dev team like, talk to each other?

  • How about we do what we say we are going to do, when we say we are going to do it?

Only weathermen are allowed to be this wrong and this consistent about it...

So, dev team, maybe if you guys played publicly on a consistent basis, you'd understand how to fix your own game...

Or, at least listen and watch what your partners and dedicated players show and tell you what's wrong...

Thanks for not listening... the quiet lady sweat lords

  • @c3dpo
Thanks for sharing the update, delays are akways frustating but hey...i think people would always want it working as intended

  • I know if I missed this many deadlines on my job I would have been fired long ago. The sad truth is I'm not even surprised at this point.

  • @c3dpo Hello,

We were really looking forward to this new mode, but I understand your concerns. Still, please consider giving us Fight Nights at least for this weekend. I believe it would help the community take this disappointing news a bit better.

    Thank you

  • I'm thankful that y'all are trying your best to get use good content. but can we at least have our full month, all that is coming to season 20 is custom sea which will be around forever can you at least give us the 1 week to get our rewards please

No big deal, just 1 week.

However, it will mean a slightly shorter window for anyone working to complete the final Deeds of Season 19, so please plan accordingly!

You know better, the playerbase here dont plan or even try. They just jump the gun first and complain about it.

May 21 to June 18 is four weeks (28 days).

  • i hope the next season will be better. this season wasnt fun tbh...

Crazy, isn’t it? Just like if people had jobs or private obligations and simply don’t want to plan their whole life around the schedule of a videogame. What’s wrong with people these days? Poor Rare!

In my opinion, season 20 is already doomed to fail. The average player won’t care a lot for custom servers and the plunder pass - which was, except for the lack of interesting rewards here and there, fine in my opinion - will be replaced by yet another predatory business model to squeeze as much money out of the playerbase as possible.

I‘d say „let’s hope for season 21“, but I‘m not very optimistic anymore at this point.

  • Crazy, isn’t it? Just like if people had jobs or private obligations and simply don’t want to plan their whole life around the schedule of a videogame. What’s wrong with people these days?

    shrug

It called being an adult. But people are willing to plan for vacations, cons, streamer events, or other silly stuff.
But majority of these players are kids, to be fair; they haven't learned the lesson of time management. I pitty them.

  • @burnbacon sagte in Season 19: Act 3 - State of Play:

    It called being an adult.

That’s my point. Adults have plenty of obligations. Some of private nature, some related to ones own career. Therefore nearly every aspect of your life has to be micromanaged and planned accordingly (at least, if you want to live a successful life).

Leisure time literally means taking a break of all these obligations and micromanagements. It‘s absolutely wild to me, that there are people genuinely defending videogame-developers, that try to dictate when and how to have fun during these precious and mostly rare (at least in my case) leisure times.

Videogames should be a pleasant side-content, not the troublesome main-content.

  • What a joke looks like I won't be doing act 3 will only have 1 day due to going on Holiday really disappointed in this 🫠
