Mic/steam deck

Does anyone know how to get a wired headset with mic to work on the steam deck (LCD) version? I've tried binding one of the back buttons to push to talk but it doesn't seem to do anything, all other settings seem to be on and enabled, but for the life of me I can't get it to work. Would be so much easier playing with mic. Thanks in advance.
