Treasury/Shrine Merm Fast Travel

  • Since the Horn of Fair Winds was put into Treasuries, I went back and started doing them again regularly. It had been years since I had really touched them so I had forgotten why they sort of feel disconnected from the rest of the map.

Unlike a normal world event, you don't really have the option to take a quick glance at the horizon. You commit to going down there, and you either stay down there, or you have to take the merm statue back up to your ship for a check, but then you have to swim back down to continue the event.

It takes One Minute and ten seconds to swim down into a Treasury.

    That feels like an eternity.

    So, here's my proposal...

Once your ship is overtop an active Treasury or Shrine, the "treasure merm" appears at the surface and can be used to fast travel down...

For Treasuries, it would take you to the respawn location in the entryway before the battle room.
For Shrines, it would take you to the beginning of the Shrine, OR, to the furthest progressed merm statue within the shrine.

    Yes and no.
It makes it easier for someone to come mess with you in a shrine.
Your ship gets sunk and you get no loot either...

Jump off your crows nest. Saves you 5 seconds 😅

As long as you put loot into the merm statue, you can still get the loot even if your ship gets sunk

Jump off your crows nest. Saves you 5 seconds 😅

Yeah but then you have 3 seconds of climbing time so the net result is under 2 seconds 🤣

  • So you just wanna remove swimming all together because the risk….

Yes, but I have to get the loot to the Statue first. Treasuries would
have a particular issue with that lol.

And you can't time your coast to a stop so you can climb up early?

Everyone wants whirlpools, maybe put a pirate sized one or have findable rocks (can't be sold or anything) on islands you can take with you and jump off holding it and sink Pinocchio style.

I agree with it's a long swim, but I'd rather see a boost instead of a straight up teleport.

  • @th3-tater I'm proposing a 1 minute shave off of the play loop of an otherwise underused part of the game.

Maybe it would cause more people to engage with Treasuries/Shrines more frequently.

Maybe it'd change the encounters that infrequently happen as it is. From a sinking of an unmanned ship to having to actually battle someone that came up to do a horizon check.

Maybe it'd just shave a minute of swimming for those that engage with them already.

Either way, it's not a crazy idea 😅

I understand you're struggling with the horn. Yes, I finally completed it after they changed it when I sent them this. But don’t worry about swimming down; try to relax with some songs or music. Trust me, you will achieve what you’re looking for.

    Here:

Dear Sea of Thieves Support Team, Reporting an issue I have encountered regarding the "Horn of Fair Winds" in Sea of Thieves. Despite extensive efforts, I have been unable to locate this item, and I am concerned that this may be due to a bug or oversight within the game. Here are the specific actions I have taken in my attempts to find "The Horn of Fair Winds": Completed the Treasury of Sunken Shores Voyages 3 times. Explored shrines and Treasuries without diving a total of 18 times. Undertook a Lost Shipment Voyage for the Merchant Alliance once. Searched over 30 shipwrecks with Reaper Chests. Investigated more than 50 normal shipwrecks. Checked 5 times in new Reaper Bounties shipwrecks, ensuring I was on a server with 4 ships or more. Despite these extensive efforts, I have been unable to find "The Horn of Fair Winds." This leads me to believe there may be an issue with the item’s availability in the game. For comparison, I have also been working on obtaining Bonecaller Balls, which can be found in raid dive voyages for Skeleton Forts. Although acquiring 2-4 Bonecaller Balls per voyage means it will take 3-4 months of daily play (5-8 hours) to gather enough, at least it is feasible. However, "The Horn of Fair Winds" seems entirely unobtainable under current conditions. Could you please investigate this matter and confirm if there is a bug or any other issue preventing players from finding "The Horn of Fair Winds"? It is crucial for the game's integrity and player satisfaction that such issues are addressed promptly. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and a resolution to this issue.

You mentioned that I could find items in emergent shipwrecks, Siren Shrines, and Siren Treasuries, but it's not guaranteed. How cool and fun is that? Have you seen the trailer about the Horn of Fair Winds that you posted on YouTube? You're showing your players that you added an item to the game that's so much fun, but you hide and rare it like the Shrouded Ghost Megalodon.

You need to know that you invest a lot of resources in creating this item with graphics, development, and management, bringing so much attention to the players in this game. So why can't I fight other ships that have two horns, or why can't they fight me when I have five horns? Where is the fun in this item? You need to make it easy to obtain or completely remove it. Your trailers are misleading your players. What kind of problems will you face if players can find them easily in every single event or voyage or even washedup on beaches? Why spend money and time to develop on something that is hard to get or complete? Now my whole team—they went to different games until Season 13. Why don't you understand that you're killing the game between seasons, and no one can complete things in commendations?

    Best regards, (SeaThiever)

  • @seathiever are they really that hard to find? I find them often on seashores.

after I sent my suggestion to Rare.

  • @seathiever

Do you literally think you're the reason they changed this...?

  • @thegrimpreacher

I’m not the only one suggesting changes for Sea of Thieves. It's possible that someone from the other side of the world shares similar thoughts, and Rare may already be considering changes based on diverse player feedback. Ideas can resonate across different regions; someone in the East might have the same thoughts as someone in the West, and the same goes for players in the North and South. This global perspective shows that creativity knows no boundaries and can lead to innovative ideas for the game.

  • @sweetsandman I've thought it would be cool if the swirl had a kind of rip current effect and pulled you under at a higher speed if you follow the trail down. Not like instant travel but just a bit quicker as it is frustratingly slow.

Small tip I found other day to avoid, thought I'd try grapple gun and blow dart (working on the poison ocean crawlers). The grapple gun fails to grab onto the outside area of treasury so useless and despite getting the impact hitmarker the blowdart won't open the outside portals so had to go back up again

A patch accidentally removed them from ships and nerfed the spawn rate. He did suggest increasing spawn rate, but it was a fix more so than their suggestion.

I believe you started after the patch that fixed it. They are not that hard to find. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're guaranteed in treasuries.

    BACK ON TOPIC:
I like the idea of a current.

Not struggling, just a reminder that one of the worst parts of treasuries/shrines can easily be curtailed if Rare implemented some sort of fast travel down into them.

  • @eastthread51441 said in Treasury/Shrine Merm Fast Travel:

Once somebody is inside a shrine or treasury they can interact with any merfolk statue to get a periscopic view of the surface above able to be rotated a full 360 degrees to scan the horizon from below.

I like that idea a lot!

I still think a 1+ minute swim underwater is silly to have in place given that they have spent the last 5 seasons trying to speed up the gameplay loop.

  • Changing the swim down time isn't going to increase participation in the Shrines/Treasuries. It's the 10+ minutes you end up being stuck down there with no visual or awareness of the surface above while trying to complete it that is the reason no one wants to do them.

  • @d3adst1ck

    ^^^ This.

So long as your ship remains on the surface unattended and vulnerable, interaction with any of the Sunken Kingdom locations will remain low due to the risk of being sunk. No changes to travel time or (honestly) even the nifty periscope idea that I actually think is cool will really change this.

I think honestly unless they figure out a way for your ship to be temporarily despawned while you're down there (similar to when you pledge to the Burning Blade) and it summons your ship to the surface when you interact with the treasure mermaid at the end of the Shrine/Treasury, nothing is gonna change.

  • So a former regular reminded me right after they insulted me.

    Horns work underwater.
