Separte next gen/pc and xbox one to use ue5 for next gen and pc

  • My suggestion is separte both version. The next gen version/pc could run in unreal engine 5. have better servers for the game. new ships And it could us niagara effect for the water. nanaite could help too for less lag and better geometry. Chaos physics for better destruction. The next gen could have lumen and some raytracing as option(better texture and more improve to graphique). And we could even see more players. (Old gen will still run ue4 with better servers). Some game separte both version to have better optimisation and less lag(xbox series and pc will play together. xbox one will be with xbox one players)

Edit: forgot to add next gen version/pc could use real time rendering

  • Old gen is holding the game back currently. Would make such a huge difference if they split new-gen/PC with old-gen.

More ships, more detail. More everything.

Just the fact they had to remove the leather strap from the Wailing Barnacle Sniper to save poly's speaks for itself.

  • I get wanting more features, but that's not really how any of this works

  • @jaegerdelta3465 battlefield 2042 and gta 5 next gen dont have xbox one/ps4 player with next gen on the server. If they separte them next gen and pc will have better graphique like a remake/remaster of the game and both old gen and next gen/pc should have better server and since next gen could run in ue5 the optimisation would better for the new servers

Game engine and server performance are not related, so switching to a new game engine will not magically improve server performance. Also the servers do not care which platform you are on, and the One is NOT dragging down server performance...that just shows your lack of knowledge on the subject. So separating the versions would have absolutely no effect on server performance, but would hurt the game overall by dividing the player base.

Oh and FYI, the PC is the lowest end in terms of requirements to run the game allowing for much weaker systems than the One to run the game.

  • @dlchief58 i know engine will not help that much but still nanite would help for less lag and i even said new servers that are better for the game. the split is like a remaster it will improve how game look (better geometry for trees. Rock....etc and better graphique lumen and some raytracing on some object. Niagara effect will be great water. Fish and birds) its better call this a remaster than a split (two version: first one where xbox one. xbox series and pc would play together and the seconde one a remaster only for next gen and pc with better requirement for pc)

  • @dlchief58

One is not dragging down the performance but they can't push the game to it's fullest BECAUSE of the One. The majority of PC players out-performs the One. You can barely play with 30FPS on it

  • @itz-majman but the server doesn't care. Comparing on device game graphics and server performance like are related is the issue.

The servers see a device and send the information to it. They dont care if ita an OG Xbox One, Xbox Series X, a Pc w/ a 12900ks&3090ti or a PC with an AMD Fx 8320 and 650ti. To the server those are the same things.

Sure of they wanted to update the games current graphics quality on the device side they would have to do something with the pc/Xbox requirements. However that is not server related. I also doubt that this will happen to a game that is in its 5th year of live service.

  • @captain-coel yes graphics are not the probleme. The probleme is the servers

They could make new servers for both current version and my suggestion remaster next gen/pc only

The new server that would be better optimaze to handle more players since xbox one could handle 74 player on one server in other game and xbox series 100+ and pc?

For the remaster nanite could help server to have less lag and some other ue5 feathure could help too example niagara effect for water. Birds and fish. Flag and more and even real time rendering could help

  • Goodie....separating players because some lack the money to upgrade.
    "This wouldnt back fire"

  • @mosek9999 I agree that UE5 would be awesome. But realistically even if they started that process today it's atleast years away from being reality.

We are on year 4 of a planned 10 year plan. bringing UE5 to a game that will be out as long as Sea of Thieves at that point just seems fruitless.

We do need something to happen server side though. I want to get back to 24 players not 16. I want to see soany of the server issues resolved. But that doesn't need UE5. That doesn't need to ostracize people into two different player bases.

  • Then after the 10 years when sea of thieves come to a end they need make other pirate game or a sequal of sea of thieves with new map and more biome the game could run on unreal engine 6 be only for xbox...... and pc and have way better servers maybe more realistic body and graphics but still cartoon and we could have 6 players ship

  • @itz-majman sagte in Separte next gen/pc and xbox one to use ue5 for next gen and pc:

There won't be more ships then...back to the 6 ships maybe, but that's it...
Lag and server limitation doesn't have anything to do with XBoxOne

  • No need, it is alright

  • Bit of column A, bit of column B. Xbox One does have limitations, that's why something like BF2042 has two separate versions. However, servers also has limitations, which is why the next gen version of BF2042 is so laggy.

Getting rid of old gen by creating new gen out servers might help a little, but those servers probably need an upgrade as well otherwise it might still be a laggy mess.

  • @mosek9999 it is not as simple as saying we are going to use UE5 now. Switching game engines would likely result in a massive rewrite effort on several different fronts.

  • @captain-coel

Buildings, features and everything inside the game takes power and and certain devices doesn't meet those requirements and the Xbox One is clearly one of them. It's a reason it barely runs on 30 FPS.

    Everything isn't about graphics.

  • What make game lag is device your playing on. The servers And the internet:

the console or your pc can some time can make your game lag (my series s run sot smoothly i never got lag)

The server can be some time the probleme

If you wifi is bad it can make your game lag

Why i propose ue5 is to have better grapics for next gen and pc and nanite could have help for less lag but i understand its difficulte to tranfert

I hope after the 10 years we will see a other pirate game from rare that run on unreal engine 6 and be only for xbox..... and pc

  • Epic said there would be zero rewirt if they tranfert games from ue4 to ue5 only small bug that can fix fast (game that got tranfert from ue4 to ue5 fortnite. Ark II. The isle (indie game .they are looking if everything will be okay for the game). Path of titan (indie game).... and way more game) i think a tripleA game can handle it. since 2 indie game that has way more detail in there game can do it

(Path of titan is on pc and mobile and coming to console. before People say ue5 will break xbox one. if ue5 can be optimize for mobile (xbox one can handle it)

  • @mosek9999 as a software engineer myself i cannot even begin to count the amount of times the supplier of a framework or engine said: "Transitioning is easy and you wont need to rewrite much or anything at all...."

i am however able to count the amount of times that was actually correct... 0 times

  • @callmebackdraft i think this one is fornite it had not changed from what i heard it was transfert smoothly to ue5 same for the indie studio that made path of titan

  • @mosek9999
from the path of titans notes on the upgrade to ue5:

    Upgrading to Unreal Engine 5
For the past two months we have been working on upgrading Path of Titans to use Unreal Engine 5. This is a new version of the game engine Path of Titans runs on, and it includes a number of improvements and brand new features.

    So, what’s different?
Initially, there will be only subtle differences between Path of Titans running on Unreal Engine 4 and Unreal Engine 5. Porting the game over to the new engine is a huge task, and we simply want to ensure the game runs just as well and has no new bugs. Once the game is stable on the new engine version, we will begin to explore implementing new engine features.

and for fortnite its from epic themselves which also makes the engine, flus has a massive dev team size, hundreds and hundreds of devs at their disposal.

but yeah two months on a game that is mechanically a lot less complex then the stuff sot is dealing with (not saying its not complex but still) this shows its not something that can be just shoved in place without any rewriting or effort

does this mean Rare shouldnt investigate an upgrade, no of course not! however dont expect it to be quick and easy just because the creator of an engine said so.

  • @callmebackdraft so they could do it in a year to port it not like people that say 4 years. a indie studio can do it in 2 month so i hope we will have sea of thieves run on ue5 next year or a year after bc rare was in ue5 list in ue5 livestream launch

  • @mosek9999 if it is benificial to the game they could, but it might simply not be i know for a fact they had to do alot!!! of work to get the oceans looking and working the way they did.

and the technical challenges on getting skeletons to navigate the skeleton ships alone where hard.

this youtube channel has several videos on the ai alone, this specific video is about megalodons, skelly ships and the kraken

  • @callmebackdraft but if they move to ue5 the developpement for sot will faster and way more easy than ue4 they could bring niagara to water with their water physics nanite could help the game lag less(but full new server than can handle more player(74-100 player would be better but 30 player is enough for sea of thieves) niagagra would be great for fish. bird and cannon shots(how much time you think they will take to move it to ue5?)

  • @mosek9999 the software will not help the hardware limitations, 24 player servers have always been the max due to that.

the sheer amount of physics calculations that are happening that for the ships to move and bob on the oceans surface are staggering.

most people highly underestimate what a feat of engineering sot is in that regard, the full physics based ships that get pushed by the waves, and all sorts of other objects is actually something that no other game has done before, not on this scale.
if you see a game like teardown and how it can bring even the mightiest of gaming machine to its knees when the physics are being calculated.

now do that for all the ships on the server and all the free movement they can do, UE5 will not automagically make that better, it will not make cpu's, gpu's etc better.

  • @callmebackdraft i never said the engine will help for more players i said new servers

  • I just love how some people dismiss it so easily, the old consoles most likely holds the game back.
In features, player count and more, over the years SoT runs slower for previous consoles so Rare must be taking that into account when adding updates.

They'll have to at some point, and of course they will need to give everyone a decent amount of time to maybe upgrade but its a lie to say that the old consoles dont hold us back.

  • Though having SoT in UE5 would be an amazing upgrade for the game as others mentioned it is definitely not as easy as porting.

A change of this size is the equivalency of SoT2 being released which is a whole other topic of debate.

  • These threads are funny. Whenever some new tech or engine update drops, there is always a flurry of them expecting that you can just copy+paste it into the game and get instant performance boost.

  • @callmebackdraft 24 would still be an improvement on the 16 we have currently. Would make the return of 6 ships easier.

  • @nitroxien sot2 or other pirate game from rare would run unreal engine 6 and be on xbox..... (10 years in for sot1 new console and ue6 will release 5 years from now)

  • @mosek9999 Sorry but you need to leave this conversation to people who know the advantages and capabilities off engine UE5 SoT would run maybe even on a xbox 360 with UE5 Tech.
This is possibly a massive undertaking

@Sea-0f-Thievez it You are a Microsoft game, the Advantages of going to UE5 would be unbelievably for SoT but would take possibly a year to implement
