Ship despawning out of nowhere bug

  • I was docked nicely at Fletcher's Rest and had just died to skeletons when doing a bounty.

When I respawned I jumped off my boat and immediately got a message that ive lost my level 5 emissary, so I turn around and see my loot falling out of thin air and landing in the water. Some loot could not be picked up and had to be harpooned. My ship spawned on the next island.

Maybe only an hour later I was at Devils Thirst docked nicely doing a riddle, I was digging right in front of my ship when all of a sudden it despawned again but right in front of me, loot falls into the water but this time almost all of it was stuck and could not be picked up. My ship spawned at the next island again.

I was doing an ashen gold hoarder voyage and was in an alliance.

I was interested if this has happened to anyone else? and if so, can Rare please have a look at this?

    Thanks

  • @fuzzninja9772 did your ship touch the seafloor? You can tell by scratching sounds from the ship...if yes, this isn't a bug, this is to prevent ships trying to stay afloat by beaching them...maybe park a bit further away...

  • Thanks for responding Schwammlgott,

In honesty its possible I was touching the seafloor, but im not sure. However I know about those scratching sounds and I can say that I was not getting them. and the ship certainly wasn't beached.

Furthermore ive been playing for 3 or so months now and this is how ive always usually docked when visiting an island and this is the only time ive had this problem.

From now on as a precaution I will dock a little further away sure. but I would be very interested to know if this is what's expected from now on or if this is indeed a bug.

Also, im interested as to what you mean when you say ships were staying afloat when beached?

Still keen to hear if anyone else has had this problem.

  • I've only ever seen this or had it happen to me when the Ship was touching the seabed even just a little bit (I have noticed sometimes I don't seem to get the sound effect if only a tiny bit of the Ship is touching which has lead me to give a quick check of the underside of the hull as I head to the island with a quick dive under when I park pretty close as I do sometimes). Outside of that, never seen it.

As to what was meant by beaching and not sinking, back before this was added some folks would ram so hard into some islands they would beach and couldn't get the Ship unstuck cause they were out of the water so nothing would fill the holes. Now that we have Harpoons people could attempt some really crazy stuff and not sink without it. So it is sort of the Ship version of the stuck so need to black screen you deal that there is for players. Side effect is that it means if you are still in the water but the hull is touching land at all it is basically running a timer until it will respawn the Ship (which means losing your flag if an Emissary as the game treats it as a sink to accommodate).

  • Hi RedEyeSith, Thanks for responding,

That's very interesting, I guess I've just been lucky this whole time having only experienced this problem now.

Thanks for your explanation, I can see why they would implement such a feature given people were able to make their ships basically immune while beached.

Ill be extra careful when I park from now on.
