I think the Kraken has immense potential, I really do. As much as I find it a fun killer, an encounter only meant to inconvenience you, and something really not worth your time, I think you could do some really, really cool things with it.
For instance, make it a summon=able thing, some ritual involving scattered lore bits throughout the map. Perhaps a larger, world event type encounter that can spawn randomly. Bring 100 caged pigs and drop them overboard in a pile, maybe! I don't know, something interesting.
- Notice of a whirlpool or water is beginning to swirl, or a big hurricane type eye is seen swirling above an area (through world event, ritual, etc)
- Massive Kraken spawns
- Has similar mechanics to what it has now, just on a larger scale.
- Enough damage is done to weaken it, it suddenly ducks below the surface.
- However, it being so massive, you can see the creature's shadow lurking below the surface and it begins to make it's way elsewhere. From the crow's nest or the bow strip you can track it and follow it.
- Pops up somewhere else, repeat until it finally dies (or decides you can have your freakin loot (it can be a named Kraken, be THE Kraken, that keeps reappearing as you never seem to really kill it) Make a fun world event some day where you manage to finally take it down.
I'm just spitballin, but I just can't stand the Kraken as it is. It isn't a fun encounter. It isn't memorable. I don't know anyone who gets Kraken'ed currently and leaps for joy or even smiles. Even if you buffed the loot as the solution, it's still an uninteresting encounter that only annoys you, and now you're infinitely more hindered and handicapped because the patch notes just told everyone that anyone getting Kraken'ed is just bait. You've become the goat in Jurassic Park, at no fault of your own. And I like being a pirate, stealing, looting, but even I can sympathize with that.
I have no idea the limitations of Rare and the SoT dev team, but I hope some day some revamping or some fun world event sea monster content comes. It brings ships together, it's exciting, it's memorable.
