Can we have more Pride flags?

  • Ahoy @capt-boneheart,

Please read and abide by the forum rules going forward.

    Thanks!

  • @Deckhands

Hey can y'all lock this thread before it gets any more toxic. Pretty sure this ship is sunk and looted.

  • Love it, more options for flags the better. While we are at it can we add a straight flag too :). As a matter of fact custom flags that would have to go through validation would be nice. All I want is more options to personalize our ships.

  • Mods are having a field day with this thread. ecks dee.

Love me some Anthony Michael Hall. You guy have got your work cut out for you here lol

  • @Lysergicaa Your post has been removed as it goes against the Forum Rules and Pirate Code.

    ALWAYS:

Be respectful. Sea of Thieves is a game for everyone regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality, nationality, creed or disability. Treat everyone with respect. Diversity only enriches this larger-than-life pirate community of ours and makes Sea of Thieves’ world a far more interesting one to explore. When we all play, everyone wins.

    NEVER:

Discriminate against anyone based on who they are. As stated previously, Sea of Thieves is a game for everyone regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality, nationality, creed or disability. Prejudice of any kind is totally unacceptable.

Name calling, personal attacks and using derogatory language against Community Members, Rare Employees, Global Moderators or Deckhands is not acceptable. Using such language will result in a warning, then temporary ban from the Forums and a final warning. If the action is persistent or increasingly aggressive, a permanent ban from the Forums will be issued.

Please read and abide by the Forum Rules and Pirate Code in future.

    Thank you.

  • @pithyrumble actually I feel despite the few people trying to cause trouble most everyone has kept themselves respectable despite the subject matter and controversial topic it can be.
I dont think we should have any more present day flags than the one we already have. I love the idea that sea of thieves is literally a type of Avalon in a lost place away from the world. In the real world I'm a gamer, musician, father, business owner as well as a plethora of other things. But when I log in im a pirate and im going to take your loot. otherwise my pirate might as well be replaced by my Xbox avatar.

  • We don't need individual flags for every variation imaginable. The Pride flag is all-inclusive. It fits within the game because it's simply a rainbow, a very generic symbol that can mean whatever you like. Rare introduced it to show their commitment to diversity and tolerance, which is very much keeping with the spirit of the game. More specific flags are not necessary and would be out of place in the game world. That goes for any non-generic identifiable flag, including national flags. The rainbow is a wonderful symbol and I'm happy to have it in the game. That's enough.

There really isn't any reason to discuss this further and I felt this was nothing but bait to begin with , especially since it is teetering on the edge of forbidden topics.

    Total bait but fun.

Let’s compile a list of acceptable Flags! I’ll start:

Anything from the Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual

  • the less of the real world corrupting this fantasy one the better.

  • There are no LGBT, no straigths, no "animal-friendly" weird people on The Sea of Thieves... there are just good players and bad players. With this, I mean people who enjoy the game and people who don't.

And I'm gonna sink you all till you "ragebeard"... with no discriminations hahaha.

  • I’m going to try and add in some flag feedback to this.

I’d like to see Gold hoarders, Order of Souls and Merchant flags.

Add a mechanic similar to the reaper flag. While the flag is on the mast you collect higher tier items that give bonus gold and a few doubloons. However the flag will broadcast to those with a sharp eye in the spyglass that you hold more valuable loot.

  • OK, I have my own opinions about the politics behind the OP suggestions, I have no desire to share them here. I, for one, believe politics should be left out of the game and left out of the forums. Those discussions should be handled in private.

As for the suggested additional flags. For me, they simply have no place in SoT as they do not represent the time and place for the setting we are in when we set sail. There are many other flags I believe we should see first. For one, there should be different variations on the jolly roger. For another, why is there no East Indian Trading company flag? Or as some have suggested, country flags of the time and era that we are playing in.

I just don't think those flags belong in the game. To be honest, for those same reasons, I don't think we should have the rainbow flag either. It wasn't a thing back then.

Again, this is not about politics, but more about immersion into a game that I very much enjoy.

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 I like those flag ideas mate...

  • @straw-hat-blake

Naw the pride flags don’t have those kinds of symbols on them (they’re just bars of colours).

  • @fast-bike94

No it wouldn’t. There is nothing sexual about being gay, or a lesbian, or transgender. It’s identity and orientaion.

  • @knifelife this isn’t an argument thread bruh. I literally left this thread alone after people started forcing it to become something bad like legit.

  • @daringclarky

That’s actually a pretty good idea!!!

  • How about no

  • @faceyourdemon

You are sexualizing IDENTITIES!! That in itself is wrong and disgusting.

  • @darkmore111

Identity and orientation are two different things my friend.

It’s not rubbing it in your face. It is announcing that hey, we dont care what others think, this is me and who I am.

Well said, the rainbow flag is quite inclusive and already fills it's representation purpose. I think that, if anything, more lore and game-related flags should come first.

If you don't care what others think anyway, why is it important to wave a flag if you know who you are?

Get creative, get blue, pink, violet flames and decorate your ship to announce yourself if you want. Put livery colors that represent what you want, we have a bunch of colorful sets. Soon captaincy will allow to name our ships, you'll be able to call it a fitting name to announce yourself however you like. Dress yourself however you identify as, put whatever face paint or hair cosmetics, there is no restriction there. The game isn't particularly restrictive on how one chooses to announce themselves already.

  • I'm full o' pride 'cause I got post 100! Whoo! 😀

  • It reminds me a thread I made asking for the rainbow flag during the pride month. I know for a fact this is unfortunately a controversial and political subject but I wanted to write something. We all have here different background, different culture and education. The need for these flags may seem unnecessary to some but can be important to others. I was quite surprised when I saw a week after that Rare added the rainbow flag into the game and can't thank them enough. I guess in the end you give the meaning you want to the rainbow flag as all the things you do in the sandbox Sea of Thieves is.

The Coalition, the studio behind Gears 5, surprised me when they released their game with all the pride flags and not just the rainbow one. The thing is sexuality/gender are pretty complicated things and that's kinda why there are different flags/labels but I won't go into more details.

I personally don't really have an issue with having more flags, more freedom for everyone to tell their stories and show their colours.

Thanks to the mods for letting this discussion open. It's nice to see what other think, stay respectful all and keep spreading love :)

  • @glannigan Ya....I feel you, I started a country flag post a few months back and got beat up pretty good for it lol....

  • @agent-samuraii You are you hypocrite, giving flag to people so they can i dentify is the definition of sexualizing XD

Neither you nor me mixed the words orientation and identy in our original posts.

And while your intentions may be true, the message you are delivering to me is: "I want attention, because I'm special."

  • @faceyourdemon So sea of thieves is sexualizing crabs because theres a crab flag in the game?

  • The whole idea of putting a flag on a ship during the age of sail was to show a message from far away since there was no radio communication.

White flags for surrender. A black flag was to show intention of piracy. A red flag would strike fear into sailors as this flag meant the ship would show no quarter and no sailor would survive by surrender.

Then ships would fly their nations flag. Since this could become controversial the Developer could introduce the Trading Companies flags.

They added the Reaper flag which feels close to a Red flag of piracy without breaking the developers ideology of Tools not Rules.

We as players in Sea of Thieves do not need flags that display our world intentions. We play a game to escape reality not bring it into it. Unless the game is trying to be a realistic take on a real world idea. This would then be the artist interpretation of the subject matter. Sea of Thieves is not trying to be a take on the real world. It’s loosely based off of pirate fantasy and lore.

When I’m sailing the seas I don’t look at another sailor or pirate and wonder what their lifestyle is. Don’t care to know. It could be Barney the dinosaur for all I care as long as they know how to adjust sails and bail water. If they don’t and seem friendly and want to learn I’ll teach them. If they act moronic and don’t want to listen I move on.

Point I’m getting at here is most gamers who are decent people could care less about identity and just want to play a good fun game.

  • @r0guesquirrel hahaha for some reason im not sure if you are joking or not but if not then do you know that im talking about it more as a title.
To tag yourself in a group creates discrination.

Unless you are speaking about different kind of crabs, no, I don't think so.

Amen. Enjoy the rainbow flag, lets focus to bring more meaningful game-related elements to the Sea of Thieves.
