No point in spending hours (if your not following a walkthrough) to have all progress wiped out in an instant...

What's the point? Oh I don't know... Entertainment?

I remember playing games like Super Mario Brothers and Battletoads on the NES. I would spends hours progressing only to have all my progress wiped out in an instant when I turned it off. And the next day I would do it again.

I guess I want to play a game if the game itself is fun to play. Whether I achieve a certain amount of progress or earn some in-game reward is secondary. If I'm not having fun without that stuff, I probably won't keep playing the game.

Unfortunately SoT has way less replay value than it needs in order to be an enjoyable session game. TT are head and shoulders more entertaining than regular voyages and events but even here, once is enough.

I recall fondly a lot of the old Mega Drive games where you’d replay sections maybe hundreds of times. But, they had great gameplay. SoT doesn’t.

I do agree with you about some aspects of Sea of Thieves, especially if you are trying to play as if it were a single player game.

And I think that is an issue that many people are struggling with. They want to play this game the same way they would play a single player campaign. But Sea of Thieves is most definitely not that. It's a multiplayer sandbox that allows you to try to play it as a single player campaign -- and Rare has even made some changes to make the game more accessible for those players; but ultimately, that isn't what the game is designed to be. So it is understandable that there are parts of it that don't work well for that.

I know that if I am playing solo, there are certain things that I just won't do because they aren't enjoyable for me to do solo. But if I am in a crew, I enjoy doing anything and everything... Partly because those things are designed to be done with other players and partly because when I am in a crew I'm not as focused on the specific thing being done; rather, I'm just hanging out with friends.

As someone who likes to PVP.. nah I am fine the way it is. I have even messaged people to tell them I left their stuff on the docks.

I think this a great solution. I'm not one to usually start a PVP battle and am usually on a sloop, but if we fought it out and I sunk, I wouldn't be upset with this outcome. It's a great way to say "well played, good game buddy". Not all PVP has to be a toxic experience.

Tall Tale Items SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BE SOLD if stolen from doing PvP. How many times I have sunk ships and taken their Tall Tale items to do absolutely NOTHING WITH!!!

This is a very bad idea.

There is no guarantee of any treasure whatsoever when you PvP. That’s the risk you take. This was done in order to help people complete the tall tales.

Personally, I don’t understand why so many people are having trouble completing the tall tales. They are difficult at times but if you read the book with the tales it will tell you everything you need to know. If not, I’m sure someone has posted a video explaining what must be done.

I have been attacked by the PvP community while attempting to complete the tales. Personally, I just jump to a different server and start again.

Honestly, any rewards for PvP is a bad idea. If you want gold (which is worthless in this game) then go earn it yourself.

Being a pirate doesn’t always mean profit, my friend.

Good for you, you sunk a lone ship that was parked only to find they had a pendant with a cursed soul. Sucks to be you, because you wasted all that time for nothing.

Strange, I don't remember reading all of these added details. It almost seems like your trying to imply our original poster has a lack of character. Strange how all of these details paint him in a negative light.

Strange how you try singling me out in every spot I happen to be in :)

Being a pirate doesn’t mean profit. He was a pirate, good for him, too bad it was for nothing.

  • People generally don’t seek out to steal tall tale items you just come across them by chance. If I have to sink a player I will. Most times I can steal treasure without sinking them and get out of there while leaving item. If for some chance I have their tall tale item I generally try to give it back to them. There is no value to me. I’m okay that it doesn’t have value it deters people from ruining their voyage on purpose. Giving it back or leaving it somewhere and telling them where it is encourages the pirate code and good sportsmanship.

Strange how quick you are to take seemingly innocent lines of words as personal. Weird world we live in.

  • No they shouldn't be. People already sit and wait to grief players that are finishing the Tales, this would make it so much worse.

I don't mind the PvP in this game most of the time, I'm a solo player but I'm able to outmaneuver the bigger ships easily. I did the first chapter today and my ship was sunk twice while I was working on the puzzles to get the item I needed to finish the chapter because I had to leave it parked outside the cave. While I'm in the cave doing the puzzle, which I only get 1 shot at or I have to restart the whole voyage, it closes the door behind me and I have no idea what is happening to my ship. Luckily I had already used my boar totem, and I waited to use the last medallion for the Shroudbreaker to make sure I wouldn't immediately lose it, but if you lose your item to a bunch of people that decide they want to take it for no other reason than to throw it overboard then you have to restart the entire voyage over again. It's a gigantic waste of time.

This is a PvP game but its also an open world, adventure, and exploration game. We don't have to make PvP part of every aspect of the game. I personally enjoy the whole looking for buried treasure and exploring a LOT more than the PvP and I'm sure I'm not the only person.

Didnt they say in a recent dev update that they are looking into making them sellable? But they were trying to determine what value
