No light on night

  • Hello! I have a problem, when it is night, i can't see litterally anything, only the names of players and the lanterns. On the pc the light is at maximum, and also the screen have the game mode, with maximum light, but also with these i see all dark, i also can't see the ship stairs for example, or the players. Is it normal?

  • Assuming you have an Nvidia GPU... In your Nvidia Control Panel settings change the "Output dynamic range" in Display - Change Resolution to "Limited" if it's on "Full". See if that helps.

  • @Romans96

Or you are using a TV Screen and use some weird white balance settings.
I heared some players TV Screens need time to adjust to switch from dark to bright views and they got blinded for some seeonds until the screen has adjusted white balance again.
Dont use any cinema or movie setting for playing games on a TV Screen, also if that is the case search for economic adjustememts and see what they maybe do what is counter productive for playing games.
This can also cause problems with light etc.
Check Screens refresh rate if possible.

  • @bugaboo-bill nono i've a gaming monitor asus at 144hz, i don't play with a tv, and it's darkness with all modes of the monitor

@RealStyli i've not that settings in change resolution

  • Do you have an Nvidia GPU with updated control panel?

I'm not at home so had to google this, but the setting should be here:
    alt text

(scroll down to the bottom in Change Resolution)

  • It’s supposed to be super dark and damn near impossible to see. That’s why the game HAS lanterns!

  • If you can, get a screenshot and people can tell whether or not it's a bug

  • @realstyli nono there isn't, and yes i have all updated

That's weird. What GPU do you have?

  • @realstyli GTX 1060 6GB, and i have an Asus Monitor, FUllHD, 144hz

Interesting, that's the same card I used to have until I recently upgraded. Hmmm... I'm at a loss if you've already updated the control panel. Hopefully, someone else can come up with a solution.

  • @romans96 had the same problem. I went into accessibility menu in game and messed with the settings. Worked like a charm for me.

  • I hate night time on this game. Cant see ANYTHING.

  • I hve complained about this since release. If you are using HDR on 4k the contrast changes make this game REALLY dark, impossible to see at times. They did introduce a HDR slider at one point which worked well, but now it no longer works at all.
I should not have to change settings on my TV to be able to see in the game. The game should provide all the brightness/contrast settings I need.
Come on Rare get this visibility issue sorted please.

  • Nono i'm not using the HDR. I've not so much screenshot, for now i took only these: https://imgur.com/a/C1eRCz6

@Ronin20 what do u mean? You make randomly settings until u got right?

  • @romans96 said in No light on night: > i can't see litterally nothing >

    that was a double negative

  • @captain-fet You need to use the provided lighting in the game, the lanterns. It is intended to be very dark. That's the challenge.

  • Xbox player here and it’s pitch black when Night first hits.

I can’t find the ladder to get back in the boat without a lantern, or the stairs down to the first deck, or the holes in the side of the ship to patch, and bailing is a nightmare. It’s actually quite pathetic.

Be nice if there were some in game controls to adjust this a bit, im definitely not recalibrating my TV for this one game.

I run the insider white ship hull a lot, do to its light color it helps immensely on the ship at night. The wailing barnacle hull is also light color and easier to navigate at night.

  • @midnight562 i think the same, ok it's dark and night, but i can't see anything, and i also had to fight, he saw me perfectly, but i only see his name, when he was already near me.

I play from the alpha, and it was never be a problem. Then i have a very good gaming monitor, so it was not the problem...

  • as far as i can tell. you have colorblind mode on on red-green and Filter strength on 2.0. is this with a reason? because your ammo bar is bright green. and your healthbar light pink. this could also reduce the visibility at night time. ive tested it out and nights are a lot clearer with this off.

  • @tipsysass no there is a huge difference in visibility with HDR turned off compared to it being on. I should not have to change my TV settings everytime I play this game and its only on this game this happens.
    Lanterns indeed!!!

  • @chevy040789 it does not change so much also removing it (i have activated that, not for colorblind, but because i'm achromate, and the rare does not add useful features, i need to 'mix some things'. But also removing that and set all to default, is the same

  • @tipsysass I don't have this problem when my lanterns are turned off...others who have posted don't have this problem...plenty of other people trying to help this chap...and then there's you...?

  • My monitor on PC has no issue with darkness, yet when connecting to the TV above it, it does.
So does both TVs on my 2 xboxes.
If I adjust the tvs to make them more like the monitor, other sources are washed out.

There is a clear advantage to the monitor if people don't know any different.

  • Put Shadows on cursed, i think the game looks better overall + the better lightning & you get a nice FPS boost

  • @captain-fet lanterns.

  • @romans96 lanterns.

  • @midnight562 lanterns.
