Many players complain about having to stock up on supplies and how tedious it is, when floating barrels have always had a good deal of supplies. Having the incentive to stop for loot means they're also more likely to grab more supplies while they're there, so that in turn, may lead to less complaining about gathering supplies, because "hey, we stopped anyways; it was along the way."

In regards to the barrels of plenty now containing loot, in addition to the supplies and potential voyages that were already there, I think they need to drastically reduce the chances of finding loot worth selling within it. Maybe like 5% of the barrels you see, for example, might have 1 or more pieces of loot.

Then again, I can't help but wonder if the reasoning for the developers making it so high is because they're trying to ensure that players always have some form of loot on board for PvP-minded players to take advantage of, especially after all of the community complaints of having no loot during the release of TTs worth stealing. Furthermore, having a new avenue to obtain loot (floating in the water - in addition to the previously had land, ships, monsters, and voyages) means that some pirates will fall to temptation and stop their ship, which provides more opportunities for attracting unwanted attention and possible attack or theft.

If this is the line of thinking Rare had, then bravo. 👏

I think you’re probably right. This appears to be an attempt to increase the incidence of PvP. Other than accelerating the rate at which players can level up there isn’t any other obvious outcome.
But, it has always been easy to generate loot/treasure in the game and PvP and PvE had found their own levels. In other words players had established their own play-styles. Trying to manipulate this by changing things in the environment is short sighted and may end up being counter productive. For every predator you create you must of course sacrifice prey. Already the comments are starting
“Hey! in just 15 minutes we sunk 3 sloops and laughed at our victims. I’m such a clever boy and my mother is so proud of me”, well, you get the drift.

Rather than bring the “community” together this I’m afraid will only serve to divide it further. End of the day, some players get their buzz from firing canon at other ships, some players get their buzz from completing quests and voyages. Most every player does a bit of both but we all have our preferred activities. This is the second of these monthly events where Rare are trying to breath life into PvP. I think it had already reached its natural level.

Nothing personal, but this is nothing to applaud. Constantly tilting the pulse of the sea to PvP and catering to only that segment of the community is wrong.

PvP was only to be one of many options that exist in this game. Rare should not be constantly making content this way if true. If true they need to either stop or have the bells to say this has been and always will be a PvP first and only game like some players want it to be.

That would mean the journey so far has been a lie. If this and all the prior months that point the same way is true, then it has been one big pirate con. However, I do not think it is that. What ever powers that be think that making Sea of Thieves more PvP is a way to save it and starting soon milk money out of the cash shop. Why? Because almost everything else out there sadly is that. Then that would just make them a sell out and another in a long line of greedy big game developers.

It all needs to be better than that. Just like the game needs to be better than resorting to sacrificing most of the community for a part of it.

I agree with others that the game needs more cosmetics to keep up with this. We need twice as many and desperately. Personally I want more jackets with smaller collars. 99% of jackets have these Dracula-looking collars and they all clip through my character's jaw.

My crew engage with other players quite regularly, either being chased by other pirates or during our own "Slaughter Raids".
But there is a serious inflation on these seas, no one can denay that. In my opinion either frequency of finding most valeuable loot should be tuned down a notch or we should get more sinks for that mountains of gold that our pirates are hoarding right now. The number of non-time-limited cosmetics that we can purchase is far too small compared to gold income. I mean I have pretty much all of the cosmetics sans for Ocean Crawler and Bilge Rat set becouse I deteste those and refuse to waste my mountain of gold on them. I really wish we could get a whole set of non-time-limited cosmetics along with time-limited ones brought by monthly updates.

That's my point. You reach PL just by sailing around. Right now, most of the veteran players are A10 and they only go out to hunting. Maybe these neo-PL, tired of being robbed by those, turn the loot more often. They don't seem to be as brave as the old were, hauling a big amount of loot. I remember the game in its early days, you couldn't do anything without being bothered, and when you get used to it, it's part of the fun.

1. Why are more players not attacking others to steal their loot?
Not sure but the 'oversatturated loot' might have something to do with it. 😜👍
For me, I'm not a pirate. I don't attack, I don't steal.
I enjoy sailing, exploring and finding shinies on the beach....especially in sunken ships.
I know it's called "Sea of THIEVES" but that doesn't mean everyone's a thief....I take it to mean, "there are thieves out in the world....be wary adventurer."

2. Do you think that the SoT is oversatturated with loot?
Not from my perspective.....never!
Now from an economic perspective....maybe.
As many are suggesting...this seems to throw off the urgency and/or requirement to fight for loot as there are numerous ways to get the loot without wasting time and resources fighting and dying over it.

To speculate:
~Perhaps, the player-base is just wiser and has learned that hoarding treasure is risky so they turn in more often.
~Perhaps, there's a growing number of players who aren't as interested in theiving.
~Perhaps, the monthly event has players distracted and when achievements have been accomplished ships will return to fighting over loot once again.

I’m inclined to agree.

Not sure why people think there’s a specific game driven reason for ships not engaging in fighting much. It’s simply because people are now starting to do what they prefer to do. Basically any new PvE content and the vast majority drop straight on it. It’s far more popular than sinking one another. This will probably become even more embedded with these now monthly events even though ironically Rare tried to design these events to force interaction.

Let's focus on the loot issue. We all think the same.

Stop making the game easier and give us cosmetics!! The status of PL should mean "skilled and dedicated player". Right now is meeh.

@viperishemu2992 if that is your reason, it's no make different to me. Our crew always prefer kegs over naval fights. It's easier and faster. We've been using this modus operandus almost since released date. We love naval battles tho.

Knowing that that method, or modus operandus as you call it, is the most popular and quickest method if successful (but it's not without great risk), my crew has taken to doing everything they can to prevent that from happening to us. We're seasoned pros at preventing boarders or barrels from getting anywhere near our ship, and we've mastered maneuvering the ship to captitalize on said player's absence in order to put a quick end to their floating base of operations - all without ever leaving our ship or boarding theirs.

That said, this particular line of discussion is a bit off-topic, so if you'd like to continue this line of discourse, please do so in another thread where it's more suitable to do so. This thread is about the saturation of loot in SoT - please discuss that instead.
