Barrel UI Improvement

  • One should be able to simply walk away from a barrel and have it close automatically. It's strange that there's a dedicated button for closing the interface. It works very well in other games (see Elder Scrolls Online when in a loot window) and it would be a great quality-of-life improvement in Sea of Thieves that most people may not even realize they want.

  • For this to work they would need to make it so Xbox players use Right stick to navigate menus.

LOLz the Barrels used to be amazing. You simply used X to take an item (as long as you had space in your inventory) and Y to put an item in the Barrels. This made for smooth seamless combat and movement in general so while you walked/ran by the Barrels you could spam X without stopping and it would put those supplies in your inventory. It was AMAZING. Then they came out with Barrels 2.0 which was one of three reasons almost every person I played with on SOT quit the game and never came back (other 2 reasons were Cursed Cannonballs and the nerf of Commendations that had been in place for 7 months). With the new system you had to press a button to enter the Barrels interface and then another to take an item and another button press to grab all and then ANOTHER button press to leave the Barrels interface. No matter how fast you are at this (even with PC users using the dreaded Macros) you were at a standstill for at least a second or two. This made it clunky and bad for combat whether on offense or defense. Of course Rare has been very reluctant to make any changes to this (except the take all or remove all double button press change) even though there are sooooo many other ways to do a Barrel interface. I personally would have left old system in place, added another combo of buttons. Like maybe simply hold X to go into the barrel interface or hold X and Y at same time, or how about a pop up when you got close to the Barrels with buttons now available for each action. Sad thing is when they add the new Barrels 2.0 interface it was for the silly cursed cannon balls and that was it for a good 6 or so months until now that we had dif types of foods. But as some will tell you that this is the way it is and you HAVE to get use to it. This is of course not true since some have simply stopped playing the game and have never returned because they hated the new interface among other things.
