Political & Religious Discussion

I think this has run it's course. Maybe it is time to close it down @Deckhands ?

@zuwashi I enjoy living in a society that has laws yes. I don't agree with every law, that's why I vote when I am given the chance.

The same rule of law that prevents people from using hate speech also makes it illegal for them to doxx me, turn up at my house and assault me, murder me, etc.

You don't get to just pick and choose which laws apply to you, unless you get elected President I guess. Either all laws apply or none.

I'll take needing to be a bit more politically correct than growing up in the 1980s prepared me for, if the quid pro quo is that I can expect to be protected from violence and anarchy as I go about my daily life.

We're veering quite far from the original topic here, miles away from video games and we're in danger of getting into a political debate, so I'm going to do my part and stop contributing to this discussion, it just goes around in endless circles and ruins everyone's moods.

Lets just all agree to try to be decent to one another in so far as that is possible, whether we agree with the other side's views or not.

Sounded like the only reason he bothered posting about it was because the recent players function didn't work and was hoping it would be fixed soon.

Honestly, the whole thread seemed fairly standard and forgettable till people started arguing about political correctness.

The law is clear, the legal definition of harassment is that the person feels that they were harassed, not the intent of the harasser.

Hint: Hate speech laws are just that because the definition is not clear about it and everyone can get punished for speaking the truth about certain individuals or group of people, they just have to cry that you're discriminating them and place a few buzzwords on you. Game Over.

The recent doxxing of CDProjekt Red devs by supporters over alleged transphobic attitudes is a good example of something that is very unlikely to have been done by an actual trans person and is unlikely to do anything other than cause more hatred to be directed at that particular group.

I totally agree with you with regards the extremist further marginalising groups. Sex, Race, Religion same issue.

However with computer games (Unlike on the street) people do not know you. They don't know I am gay, or straight, Black, White or Brown etc. If they insult me, I am choosing to find it offensive. It does not excuse poor behavior of course. However imo it should be seen for what it is. Rude, immature, impolite. It should be ignored, their parents already failed them. Getting stressed about it is unproductive, futile and probably unhealthty.

Your contributions, if I understand them correctly at all as a foreign language speaker, actually miss the point.

I wouldn't agree with them either, if they fit the topic. Freedom is to be defended. Tolerance towards enemies of tolerance abolishes tolerance. We both know that there cannot be limitless tolerance or limitless freedom in a social society.

Back to the Codex: Violations of the Code can be reported. In the reported case they should be reported at all costs; I consider such behaviour to be completely inappropriate.

I was making a comment about how if this happen in real life to get the law into it. My comment was to correct that, the law can't do nothing to something talking trash.

However, this is a private game and until we go to court about Terms of Service. (Law suggests that it is not a binding contract, but has never been pushed in courts.) Until that time, games have a right to ban you for breaking rules.

Like real life, Rules and laws only matter if they are enforced.

Also, not sure why you think I am defending, I am stating facts, and what our laws are. I am saying that I rather know how someone feels, so I can stay away from them. That is why I disagree with some of you.

I am speaking clearly about USA, It would be scary to live in a place where people I don't want to be around could not speak how they feel. Making friends with a racist, because he could not be racist in public? That is why hateful people who speak out lets us know who to stay away from.

Acceptable? Yes and No. I don't like it, but our freedom allows us to be openly racist, or hateful to things we don't agree with. Unless it cross this line.

Civil Harassment

You cannot be serious. I would suggest this kind of attitude is as much of a problem as the people calling the insults. Peoples skin is so thin these day its ridiculous.

While you find it inexcusable, I don't. If they feel that way express it. I rather see who i want to hang out with who are honest with feelings. So people who openly express this stuff, I know to stay away from.

As a cripple man, who has been made fun of in public. I understand it can hurt, and I understand that it makes you upset, but being upset is not the end of the world. No matter who you are, no matter what color your skin, who you love, what you do. Someone will always find something to be a jerk about with you. If you are rich, poor, nice. It does not matter.

So all I can say is grow, because you can't control others..you can yourself.

Also about the kids thing, Parents should understand that no amount of rules online will keep your child safe from such things.

I know 13 year olds that are more mature than 30 year olds. This is the world we live in.

I think we forgetting that this is a game for children from 12 till 88 (and beyond)..
As OP nicely stated, he is old and confident enough to ignore insults and such.

But everybody who plays this game, does it to relax, escape from your IRL troubles, or just have fun.
For the people who already have children, imagine your 16y old child isnt that confident and just tries to have a good time, but gets name called for not being "normal".. I think it must be heartbreaking as a parent..

For the people who don't have children, imagine you have..

So please, can we follow the pirate code and just have some respect for eachother?

The Pride Flag to me it actually represents everything that is wrong with today's society. From snowflake behavior all the way to people demanding to be disproportionately recognized because they feel so damned important.

This year the Rainbow Flag will add Brown and Black to the Flag... But no White. Well how very representative and inclusive.

Add to this the list of acronyms to explain peoples sexual representation... Hey guys the Flag represents LGBTIQCAPGNGFNBA. :D
