Sea of Thieves' Joe Neate talks about lore coming to the game - Gamereactor

  • In Bilbao he admitted those looking for a story were "underserved" but reveals plans to improve and expand upon these elements.

"So we've had a team working on basically a new and improved quest system around story and lore in this shared world for quite a while now actually, and it was originally planned to be our fourth update, but we actually moved it back to next year because we wanted to add and grow. We saw the potential in it and we wanted to really, fully do it justice. So yeah, there's a team working on that, has been for quite a while, will be for a little while more, but I think when we bring that into the game it's gonna appeal to those people that want that crafted lore, want that adventure, want that story, and also maybe appealing to single players as well."

  • @katttruewalker One of my favorite moments from SoT was when my crew completed the Hungering Deep and the banner came on the screen that said we had completed it...

I would love to see some story added to the game but at the same time I don't want too much of it and I especially don't want a bunch of quest where I just go from location to location talking to people. It will be interesting to see what the devs have in mind.

  • @katttruewalker Darn those #SeaOfTeases! :P

Well either way I’m intrigued.. especially at the single player part. Hmmm..

  • @katttruewalker

This is so great to hear and read! The lore is one of the best things in the game. It will be awesome to experience it told through a richer story in game with new questing to top it off. Starting to look like a great new year ahead!

  • The Content Update Executive Producer Joe "The Talent" Neate is talking about in the article will be Called Tall Tales.

  • @katttruewalker I am very excited for what is to come out of this update. It will be fun to play through some of the great lore that the team has been building around the game!

  • @katttruewalker Wow! That sounds fantastic! I can’t wait to find out what they’re cooking up.

  • More lore would be great. I've tried to pay attention to the bits and pieces given up by the NPCs, but never been able to put things together. Unfortunately, I didn't start playing until post Merrick. I've always thought the locals hoarded the gold and their islands (and them) became cursed because of it.

  • I'd like them to return the Hungering Deep and Cursed Sails stories as permanent additions to the game. It feels like a waste to have these for a limited time and then just toss them out. It would also be nice to have the NPCs stick around on islands other then the Outposts, giving those that are just there for the Cargo Runs some sort of mini quests that get you some extra rep.

  • I would say sea dog company is for that but just a thought

  • YES, YESSSSS!! “Lore”, “adventure”, “history”, “single player”...can’t wait! I already love madly SoT, go figure in the future...good (indeed) 2019 to everybody everywhere🍀 lots of good days sailing to everyone!

Can't wait to see what they have in store for us =)

  • @katttruewalker And this is exactly why I love Sea of Thieves. It's Rare's passion for their community and for their game that keeps the hype train rollin' on down the tracks for me. Honestly, it's an addiction and I sometimes find myself just browsing the forums instead of playing another game when I don't have time to actually sit down and play SoT.

I'm really, really, really excited for the quest system because if they planned it to launch in place of Shrouded Spoils but thought to themselves, "hold on, we have something special on our hands let's expand upon it and do THIS as well, and maybe sprinkle a little of THAT on top too" then I'm even more excited for this upcoming update. I can't wait to see what else they've got in store for us.

Excellent interview, @The3SheetsNeate you da best. Keep up the awesome work, here's to 2019 and beyond!

  • This is great to hear. Things are definitely looking up for my favorite game of 2018.

  • The more lore the better

  • My 2 Favorite Lore based things:

-An Quest around the 2 known Skeleton Lords(Flameheart and 1st Gold Hoarder) and I hope an Fight after this quest aswell

-An Quest around an „Sunken Kingdom“ where hostile Mermaids livin

Only one of this 2 Things and I’m happy happy happy

  • I gotta be honest, everything he said in this interview is stuff I feel like I've already heard him say on stream. I'm still excited for the update but was really hoping for some new information.

  • @timeoftheyear yah he's been hyping up this update forever
