In my recent adventures though, I noticed that the Reaper's Mark flag seems to be used rarely (though I only have my own observations as evidence and this might be different for others dependent on time of sailing, region they are logged etc). I have spotted it on one or two occasions and, being solo and on a quest, avoided it carefully. It's a great way to keep track of a ship that quite clearly wants some PvP action. On the otherhand, I once raised my Reaper flag and then set and ambush on an island in the hope of having some fun PvP action, but to no avail.

I wondered recently then, how is the Reaper's Mark being used in game? And I suppose by extension, do we as a community know how this tool can be utilised to fill the PvP/ no PvP desires of crews?

For me I take the view that, with the Reaper 's Mark raised, it's a clear challenge to other ships. On the other hand, it is also a deterrent as ships will actively avoid you if they don't want to engage. It is definitely a tool therefore for the more daring pirate. Either they are hunting for some action or they are 'posturing' in order to create fear around them and therefore move more freely.
