Help me do a poem...

  • Hi, first of all i'm not that good about english language and i recently changed my gamertag to a more 'piratish' name.
The whole thing started when i thought about the Duppy Conqueror (i'm a percussuonist of a Reggae Band) and Namen my crew the Duppy Conqueror Crew.
Duppy means a ghost or ghostly in jamaican patois and fits the Carribean flair of SoT imho.
I then found the word of bugayaga what is a minor criminal.
Bugaboo is more like Boogeyman and when i thought about a Pirate name Bugaboo Bill pleased me very well.
It was a little like bugayaga but sound better in general.
I then found that this Name was already invented by Palmer C. (censored by forum) in the 19th century as a kids poem about a giant who lives on a hill in England harassing the villagers.
I tried to find the whole Text, but couldn't find it until so i started to do my own poem about the old pirate Bugaboo Bill.
I've written a first Verse, but i'm sure there are lots of mistakes if not complete nonsense, for example
we say Spille for the spindle and i dont know if i can use spill what means something else.
If someone wants to help me create a poem in english about Bugaboo Bill i'd appreciate that :-)

There was an old pirate called Bugaboo Bill who roamed the seas and hung on the spill (spindle).
No matter who it was they ran full of fear
The Merchants, kings fleet or the privateer
His flag on a mast was allways a threat
No other they feared as much as the dead (death?).
All knew he was bitter like a medicine pill
But not only dread was Bugaboo Bill.
He sometimes spared lifes the people told
He never killed kids a women or the old
Nor robbed he from poor or got rich by the weak, but cup the gluttons is what was his streak.
Now you can say i dont fear old tales
But what will you say if he comes for your sales (or if you once see his Sails)?
Old Bugaboo Bill is long time not dead
He's still roaming the seas a s a fearfull threat.

Thank you and if it's totally bad just tell me. It's not a problem :-)

  • I write a bit sing-songy in my head so hopefully it sounds good outside of my head haha~ (I also threw it together rather fast so anyone else is free to adjust it)

There twas an old sailor named Bucaboo Bill
Who roams the sea to this very day still.
Whether merchants or kings or an old privateer
The sight of his flag filled the whole world with fear.
A butcher, a madman, the vilest of swill
But there’s more to the man… that they call Bucaboo Bill.

On the flip of this coin we see the kindest of giants
For child or woman he was always compliant
Had no need for the old or the scraps of the poor
For glutton and greed was his only true score.

Now you can try your luck against the words of this tale
Fill your hold with cargo and dare to set sail
But when old Bill’s flag you do happen to see
You’ll be sorry, you didn’t listen to me~

  • @bugaboo-bill aye good job mate

  • @John-Hatter great, really cool thank you mate :-)

  • I would like to do this poem as a shanty. Like, sing it. If you would let me, of course.
