I can't tell you how many times I've hopped on looking to get in a PvP scenario and not finding anybody for hours. If we had a list we could access maybe at the Taverns of all the players in the current server then the player could decide if they want to stay in the current server or hop onto another. This way if it's PvP that I'm after I can hop on a populated server. If it's more of a PvE experience I can look for a less populated server.

We are not so naïve to believe that a crew looking to engage in PvP is going to care a whit about the intentions of others in the server they’ve chosen to hunt on because it’s full, are we?

So your more about forcing players to play a certian way?

I'm never said it wouldn't be used by PvP'er just that it could reduce sever hopping as it would inform them that indeed there ships on the server this would also benifit PvE'ers as it could indicate when a server merge is likely to occur and espicially players that want both and to be surrounded by ships and form alliances.

But this still wouldn't help in making gameplay more exclusive then it is as it is the job of the servers to migrate ships to fill the session. It is incumbeant on the players how they choose to play. The player that only PvP will always PvP and vice versa I belive players should always have a choice a be given the appoirate information to make informed decisions so they can get the most out their experiance. For me it's all about the options.

Also this would give more info on the health of the servers in general.

Lastly players I belive that the players should be made to want to engage in PvEvP activities thru meaningful and rewarding game design and not forced thru limitations.

IMHO

If simple options such as server information in an Online Only game can't be put in, cause of concerns It will segrate more players. Then that alone speaks volumes on the core design of the PvEvP environment and it's stability.

There are pros and cons to having a list of players on the server - most notably the added ability to either make new friends much more easily or to harass them. It's likely for this latter reason, as well as for immersion, that we don't have such a feature.

That said, I would support an info-based list - it would list how many ships are in the SoT, what kind of ships they are, and (maybe) how many crew members they have (but not necessarily who). It could even be done in an immersive way, like asking the bartender or a new bookkeeper-style character that can be found at the outposts. You could even split the info among characters - the shipwright will tell you what kind of ship they saw last at port, the bartender could tell you how many crew were last seen in their tavern, etc.; however, that won't necessarily still be true, as players can come and go. That said, even this method has its drawbacks - for example, learning that there's a solo sloop somewhere that you could potentially and easily prey on.

I agree i would want this feature to be a phyiscal object in the world that players have to go to and interact with and not simpl a menu list. This would add to the immersion. Not much info needs to be given but we should discuss what kind of info should be acceptable. I'm fine with just a ship count.

No. The first point in my post still applies regardless of whether there are gamertags or no.

PvP is situational in this game it is an integral part of the PvPvE experience. If your aim is to hop on a server solely for PvP, you may be disappointed sometimes - the same can be said of aiming solely for PvE.

If your concern is merely server hopping you are aware this currently happens already so adding this would not increase sever hopping but infact could reduce it as it won't leave player to guess if there on a dead server or not.
The issue i belive this would solve would help in indenifying when sever merges are not functioning.
PvP in this game will still remain situational as this does not indicate the intent of the other crews.
The fact this is a PvEvP enviroment does not change the need for somthing that is basic. If your concern that this would sperate PvP from PvE there is no reson to conclude that as it is the job of the servers to seemless merge new ships into the game and not allow for dead servers.
So i don't understand why you feel this way.
If you truly belive that both PvP and PvE are not optional and must both be present then you should support this idea.

As someone else says above as well - leaves the game open to folk being pursued around the map - "oh look - it's X from the forum - let's go and search for them to sink them"

If this list would exist, it could be missused, f.e. to check the risk of being surprised by a raid. Example:

There are six players on the server, four of them on your ship: Hip Hip Huray.

There are six players on the server, you are solo: Anyone need some chickens?

Therefore, I vote NO, sir, don't do that. The same goes for the number of ships, btw.

Sorry but i don't understand your argument or example could you elaborate more on this please.
