@treefittymonsta Lol I agree with you and added an alternate suggestion to my original post
I'm ok with the trade idea. 5/5

From my time with the dlc so far I think the frequency of eruptions on the islands needs to be turned down. Now there may be some sort of feature where it erupts less frequently if your ship is farther away but I haven’t noticed anything yet. I hope that others feel the same and the devs can bring a small patch to turn down the constant eruptions.
-
FS is tough and tricky solo but honestly I think it takes longer than some people have put into it to figure it out. Overall I'm glad that it really does expand the game like cursed sails did but in a better way. The thing I've enjoyed the most is the commendations of just exploring the region and how you can kill skeletons by running them into geysers. Right behind that is parking my boat in between some rocks, loading supplies, and row boating through quests. I also like more gold for items. This gives options like skull forts, harder quests, skelly ships, or just the usual island quests. Hard to choose which I like.
-
@zanorax So apparently you don't have to talk to either of them to actually start it lol. I had hopped onto a random island and found a skeleton and inspected him and got the commendation. So I never realized that there was even a quest for it until I read about it online.
-
My experience with this new update has been surprisingly positive.
Forsaken Shores is not quite want i wanted. However, I'm not as disappointed with it as i could be.
- Firstly, the new island look beautiful, their design is stunning and the Devil's Roar is most certainly my favorite area aesthetically.
- Secondly, I love the high-risk, high-reward aspect of the Devil's Roar, I understand why the area sinks so many ships. With enough patience it's possible to overcome the many obstacles this exciting new area throws at you (only sunk once after I got the hang of it).
- Also, the rowboats are a fun new addition to the world, and really help solo players and anyone who carries bulk loot. I also enjoy how they fit right in with the new area, allowing for easier traversal of hazardous areas.
- I enjoy exploration above almost all other things in games, so this update being about exploring new areas instead of "kill this thing x times" is refreshing. (Note: I know that this is a preference that not many others share, its okay to disagree with me, that's the point of forums)
However, nothing is without its flaws, and it wouldn't be fair to talk about this update and not mention where it falters.
- I understand the complaints about the range of the volcanoes, the rocks travel really far and it threw me off at first. Perhaps there could be some tweaking done to allow for less unfair deaths while still making the area challenging.
- The earthquakes can be very annoying and the geysers are the worst when trying to dig up treasure, perhaps a timer increase on geysers would be helpful.
- I was very excited for cargo runs and am very sad that they are not included in this update, though I'm assuming it had to do with bugs.
- This update was delayed and still had many bugs. (I love Rare and I don't think they should sacrifice quality in order to meet deadlines)
This post is way too long, but I feel like I have to share my thoughts on this update as I agree with both sides of this argument.

After spending more time in the Forsaken Shores, I wouldn't mind the difficulty if you were actually allowed to explore a bit. The environments and atmosphere are excellent. And I do like the added challenge for the region. However...
Volcanoes last ridiculously long and have a bit too much range in my opinion, and row boats aren't ideal as if you die you still spawn on your ship, and have to trek back to an island somehow and they usually are destroyed by then. I think the targeting and frequency of the lava rocks are fine, same with geysers and lava cracks on the ground, just the length of the eruption and radius of the volcanoes that need tweaking. I don't usually mind dying, it's the time investment after dying that's the pain.
It took almost an hour last night bouncing back and forth trying to complete a riddle chest on one island, and had our ship sank twice (one of which was random as it was new, had no damage when we parked it, no other ships or active volcanoes, or island cannons firing). And of course it respawns in another region, like Shores of Plenty, adding to the time sink in the trek to get back. This makes this entire region feel more like a chore and less engaging.
I feel that the max volcano range should be just about equivalent to max cannon firing range. This would allow you to park your boat far enough offshore to fire yourself closer, but still have to swim back with any loot, making multiple trips as needed. This also still encourages the rowboat to bring multiple treasure items, and avoid boiling water and sharks, (while also making your ship a target for other ships passing by), but gives players a bit more choice and makes death and time investment a little less punishing. I believe that would be a fair balance.
Also had geysers erupting under a chest being dug up, and gunpowder barrel skellys spawn in an active geyser that detonate instantly. While frustrating in the moment, was fun and enjoyable in context.
Coupled with this, I would love to see rowboats be treated more like ships and less like a resource, in that they should be able to have damage repaired utilizing the planks. This allows them to last a bit longer and have more durability, and again makes losing one a little less punishing if you are able to salvage it a couple times beforehand.
Well said. Saved me some typing ;-)
Only thing I disagree with is the targeting aspect of the lava rocks. I got one-shot so many times off the helm, often multiple times in one eruption while solo (and even while duo slooping myself and my crew mate in succession), that I started to think the volcanoes had sailors on nearby hidden sloops using laser designators on me :-)
Course you spawn back somewhere else as your sloop continued to get hammered while you were on the ferry and sank.
So as not to end my additional input on a negative point, I did have more success on a fully crewed galleon yesterday. It seems the old adage of many hands makes lighter work fits here as well :-D
-
Mainly played FS solo but had one session in a brig. A few things I do/have noticed.
-If you’re approaching an active volcano, raise sails and find the “safe” distance, creeping forward until you know rocks can’t hit you, ideally using a rowboat to get to shore.
-
most of the islands I’ve set foot on have shelter of some kind when it does go south, use these as a stash point for loot.
-
dropping anchor behind certain rocks will make it very difficult to be hit by falling rocks etc
-
stock up before you head east! Stop off at a few islands and hopefully you’ll find a wood/banana crate
-
seems to be around 5 mins ish between eruptions, always know where the cave/shelter is
-
look out for mermaids at the FS outpost!
-
ballast balls sink galleons that have taken damage from falling debris very quickly!
LB/RB for sharp turns in the rowboat!
Alliances are the way forward in the Devils Roar!
All in all I’m really enjoying the extra challenge/reward pay off, great addition to the existing world.

There is a difference between "difficult" and "pointlessly annoying". Its too easy to get frustrated. This game is amazing but this has been an ongoing thing. From the absurdity of 4 sniper skellies spawning at once to your character swinging their cutlass like a toddler (sword fighting gives me cancer).
Getting sunk and losing everything at the whim of a volcano isnt difficult, its annoying.
Having geysers shoot you through the air while digging up a chest (infinite times) isnt difficult, its annoying.
Skeletons having every advantage over you except being able to jump is the most annoying thing. Its not difficult its just a matter of using the "die 30 times" playstyle (why???).
Time consumption is not what you should be going for with these builds. GO FOR FUN. GO FOR OPENNESS!!Where are the creative minds???
-
Let's stop trying to make everything easier ... I did not sink once in the new zone, for the simple reason that I change my way of playing!
There is nothing impossible, no frustrating, put yourself in question rather than wanting to change everything so that it is easy.
The challenge is excellent, and the rewards are at the height of what we live -
I have to commend Rare on the Quality-Control that seems to have gone into this update. Much better in terms of polish... it has it's issues, but Forsaken Shores is definitely a step in the right direction in that regard.
You need to fix the "black screen" issues that are taking place forcing players to exit the game.
You need to fix issues with islands not loading.
You need to add some sort of "unstuck" feature because with these geysers being so ridiculous it is easy to get stuck in a tree or somewhere else and you cannot get out...and the game does not teleport you back to your boat.
You need to implement merchant into the new zone ASAP or disable legendary quests. It is the new "cheese" in the game... if you don't know what I am talking about, go through some streams on Twitch and you will find people doing nothing but running legendary quests. Almost all of them have talked about how much "easier they are".
I already started my megathread for Forsaken Shores. lol... It is here:
-
Forsaken Shores was the update I was the most excited about and it didn't disappoint me. It brought in the game a long awaited challenging and funny area. Lots of yells, lots of adrenalina, lots of laughs, it's thrilling, unforgivng and magnificient.
I really have to applaud everyone behind it and especially for the VFX and the sound design.
I know that after every big campaign everything is nerfed, but please, don't do that with Devil's Roar. I love this feeling of constant insecurity in this region. Oh and it is just amazing to row in a volcano eruption, over the boilling water and when you get to the island, trying to escape the geysers and lava.
Thanks you for this awesome update.
Keep the great work and I can't wait to see what's next! -
Today me and my crew experienced the new update which is definitely really cool. During our adventure into the devils roar we came across a few things that we think could be an issue.
Rowboats break too easily
Volcanic eruptions are too frequent
When sunk in devils roar it would be nice to spawn back there.
Any crates found had to be sold at another outpost outside devils roar
Volcanic projectiles kill in 1 shot seems a little unfair.
I should feel a little safer if on a small island but the volcano still has in mine travel distance and hits me.
These are just some concerns if you agree with me or not I wanna hear your feedback and experience to whomever reads this :) happy sailing!! -
Yesterday me and my cremate both got stuck in a large hole on the north side of Scorcher's Pass (or whatever it's called, on the north end of the new region). Impossible to get out, impossible to respawn back at the boat like you are "supposed to" when you're stuck. We had to leave the game one at a time and invite each other back.
But before one of us had time to load back in we got to watch a volcano from an entirely different island sink our ship and treasure. Super fun and rewarding.
Every new thing that Rare releases is broken and poorly thought-through. They make something new and it's obvious that no one ever thought about the side effects of that thing.
Rowboats are cool, but pretty useless at the moment. Why use a rowboat when someone is just going to sink your ship while it's parked 2 squares away? You're forced to leave one person sitting on the boat in the middle of nowhere.
Volcanoes are cool, but watched all the lava rocks home in on me is ridiculous and annoying. Please put more than minimal effort into making me believe that they aren't just reskinned cannonballs.
Seaposts are a cool idea waiting for an actual purpose. Right now they're just empty placeholders; having "on sale" items is going to matter to very few people, which should have been obvious to Rare.
-
This was an enjoyable experience at first... similar to vanilla SoT... then the massive slog starts getting in the way. Athena's need to be toned down, geysers need to be toned down, falling rocks need a shadow or something to show where its falling... The volcanos themselves just feel like they get in the way delaying your ability to finish a voyage... just adds more dead time waiting for an island to calm down while insta kill mechanics are in play.
Fortunately, the PvP still is enough to keep me slogging through this c**p...
-
For me, personally, all in all it's a good update. The style of the islands is great and its a beautiful array of vistas to look at. The rowboats are brilliant and some of the new loot is neat.
There are some things I'd like to have the team address however:
The single biggest issue is lack of control. When the island's volcano erupts, there's really not much you can do but get out of range and wait.
If you're on the island, and rocks start to rain down you're immediately not longer in real control. E.g. the rocks target you and there's nothing you can do about it. The geysers throw you into the air and there's nothing you can do (save for trying to aim for a rock to shorten the fall).
Rather, I'd suggest the rocks (as many others have recommended) are randomised and don't have pirate-seeking technology. Also add in some sort of telegraphing and/or the ability to shoot the smaller rocks with a well timed shot to shatter them mid-air.
For the geysers, some way of being able to respond to when you're thrown in the air would help. E.g. using an item or an action within a short window to make the landing less painful.
Having a sense of control is critical to this being a game of skill (and fun) and not just a random box of luck and RNGs.
-
The volcanoes could use a bit longer cool down to allow players to have a bit more wiggle room when trying to complete voyages before the next volcano eruption.
Rowboats can benefit from a way to brake. The turning also feels slightly awkward.
Geysers can be toned back a bit, digging some chests can prove to be difficult, as a geyser can just blast a player trying to dig it up. It also makes it difficult sometimes to see through.
Skeletons need to show that they are affected by earthquakes in some way, i.e. getting rattled, taking longer to shoot guns, etc.
Merchant should be put into Devil's Roar around Week 2, as Ashen merchant items can already be found in the region. -
@khaleesibot
Love the new update, me and my partner complete all new quest, we have bought all new content, that is to offer in forsaken shore, just one question????
WHERE 'S our chain ( neackless) that was advertised on the loading screen, was really disappoint to find out we could not buy from any store or unlock ingame :( will you in future be putting this item in ???? Or maybe upgrading special items like that in Athena fortune??
thanks Tiggerlilly -
@khaleesibot Forsaken Shores is yet another example of Rare coming up with such an amazing idea and finding a way to destroy it before placing it in the game. Here's what needs to be done to make this DLC way better, in order.
-
Volcanoes erupt way too often. This makes it take far too long for players to do anything if they are not playing in a galleon. I know Rare has no respect for the players time as seen in previous DLC's, but slowing down the time between eruptions would be huge. I tried to do a gold hoarders mission by myself to see how bad it truly is, it was 4 maps and it took me nearly 2 hours because every time I tapped a chest the island started to erupt, or as I figured out a couple steps in a riddle. so I had to leave, wait 10 minutes then come back. Then get 1-2 chests on board and repeat the process. On top of that I had to deal with pvp, which is fine, I love pvp. But that added a lot of time. I'm sure you know by now that playing in a sloop means you're obviously going to be a target.
-
Volcano range makes absolutely no sense. Why do I have to be 10 miles out to not be hit by a volcano? This adds time to issue #1. If your solution was to use rowboats then why do they break within seconds of an eruption? Also, do you really expect a solo player to anchor 10 miles out, rowboat into the island, then back? You realize that as soon as they hit the island if someone decides to attack their ship there is absolutely nothing they can do at that point, right? Seems like really poor design to me.
-
Order of Souls voyages still have bugs. Skeletons spawn in the ground, or waves don't spawn at all. This really should not still be an issue.
-
Geysers are a cool addition, but they erupt way too often. It isn't fun having to stare at the ground as I move because 15 geysers erupt in 5 seconds around me. I don't want these removed, simply toned down a bit.
-
Still nothing for legends? Not surprised.
-
Most of the outfits look ridiculous. Why isn't there any realistic looking clothing? The flame outfit is pretty cool, but the rest are just terrible. I know this is personal opinion, but it's an opinion I've heard quite a bit since these new outfits released.
I'll add some pros now so you can see what players are actually enjoying to maybe emulate that in the future.
-
New areas aesthetic is great. Looks and sounds beautiful. Also a lot of islands were added. I thought it was going to be like 5 realistically. I'm glad you proved me wrong with that.
-
Trading posts are a good idea, more stuff like this around the world.
-
Upgraded voyages/loot were a smart idea. I can safely say I'd never waste my time here if these weren't added.
-
Rowboats, while not perfect, are finally here. Work on making them either more stable or able to be repaired if they're going to stay so flimsy.
That about sums up my review. My opinion is also that in the future Rare should focus on revamping the core of the game instead of just shoving more content down the pipeline. We want new voyages and legend content that adds replay value, everything else will only last 1-2 weeks at the absolute most. I'm looking forward to trying out cargo runs. Hopefully those are more fun than abducting animals off an island.

The Mrs. and I are really enjoying the new content. Yes, the volcanoes present a big challenge. They errupt often and destroy you and your ship. But....it’s a volatile, fiery part of the world that rewards you greatly for the risk. All of the loot sells for significantly more than what you find outside of Devil’s Roar.
Things I love:
- New cosmetics, ship and person. Really great additions.
- Volcanoes and geysers. I love training skellies over the geysers.
- Barrels 2.0. A lot of people are complaining. It’s faster to loot barrels now than it was before they made any changes. Take all/store all is great.
- No snakes
- The new NPC’s at Morrow’s Peak Outpost
- Seaposts
- Raining ash
- Seeing the volcanoes from a really long distance, even from west of Ancient Spire Outpost
- The red voyage maps look rad
- Chest/skull cosmetics
- FUN. Just really, really fun.
Things that need attention:
- When getting stuck, you don’t automatically respawn. I don’t know if this is happening across the world, or just in Devil’s Roar.
- Floating Rowboats. We tried to get a rowboat, but after getting it in the water, it appeared about 100’ in the air above us, where it remained until we logged out
- I was hoping for some new ashen type enemies. Even skellies that have a glowy/fiery effect would be cool. Or ashen weapons on them
- Merchant Alliance: I know there aren’t merchant voyages yet, so there isn’t a vendor at the outpost. But I’d like to have one available to sell things to. Sailing volcanic stones or whatever back to Ancient Spire is too much of a detour, imo. You shouldn’t have to use more than one outpost to sell everything from your ship (including gunpowder barrels at the end of your session).

Created a support ticket for this, but putting the feedback here too :
Want to report a bunch of bugs that we're running into while playing forsaken shores, as well as a little bit of feedback. Been happening since Day 1, so want you guys to have a list of them :
- I'm hitting multiple spots where the geysers are spawning off the ground with nothing under them.
- I've seen volcanoes where the fire at the top does not spawn, so the rocks come flying from the middle of the air (looks weird).
- Spawned / started game multiple times with my daughter and I'm a green skeleton on her screen. changing equipment all of a sudden put me back to normal for her.
- When on Morrow's Outpost, if you are in the tavern, you are able to get hit by boulders. This makes no sense. Same with the little shops.
- When on islands with crewmates, the geysers spawn VERY fast. Almost too much and seem to be more depending on how many people you have?
- We timed how long you have between no eruptions to eruption again on an island. It was on average 2 minutes. This makes no sense. We barely had any time to do anything.
- Rowboats spawn VERY rarely. In our last 3 hours of gameplay we've found ONE. When we started the game, we had to go to 5 islands to find one.
- Rowboats - on xbox the triggers are a "brake" from what everyone is saying. So the equivalent on the PC should be your mouse buttons. But nothing is happening. It doesn't stop you.
- Rowboats - when you dock them on the beach, they very easily go back into the water. there has to be a way to pull them into the beach. Not just push into water.
- Rowboats - I thought the point was that these could get you on the island easier and be safer from the eruptions? They seem to get exploded quickly on the islands and then you are "stuck".
- The reach of the volcanoes is way too far. There is very few spots you can go to stay away from the eruptions, and you appear to be "targeted" by the boulders more often then not.
- No merchant at all on Devil's Roar. I get it that you likely didn't want them there for the cargo runs, but why not put one there with no quests so you can turn in the crates that you scattered around the shores? Or at least turn off the crates if you didn't want to give us a place to turn them in.
- Earthquakes are making it that we can't move on the boat? Is that intentional? it should just make the boat sway back and forth a lot more like turbulent water.
- Respawns in Devils Roar - we had it happen once, but it rarely seems to happen when we blow up. If you're doing quests in there, should you respawn in the same area, just away from any danger?
- Rowboats - multiple times while docking it to the ship, as soon as we get to the top it blacks us out and respawns us like we're "stuck".
-
Last night I was in the Tavern in the new outpost while the island was erupting. While looking out into the distance, I had ash falling and the smoke from my mermaid(sunken sloop) going on. Also further away there was an erupting volcano and the smoke coming out of it was coming out like at 3 frames per second, it looked very weird and choppy as heck. I understand this may be due to what I said just so many effects going on, falling ash, geysers, green smoke taking a big resource hit on my Xbox One X. But then I went outside as it was still erupting and the red explosion from the mouth of the volcano on the very outpost was also coming out very choppy but not as extreme as the other aforementioned smoke. This one was around 10 fps.

That is people who don't know what they're talking about. The brakes are the bumpers. That would be the buttons you use for your voyages/equipment wheel. This allows for brakes, tight concise turns, and to drift into a direction in motion.

While I was hoping for a much more fleshed out Campaign, I do LOVE the additions in this update.
I only have 2 suggestions that I think are easy changes the team can make that'll make most of the community happy.- Only change Volcanoes need in my opinion is the cooldown timer. There are volcanoes that are erupting way too frequently while most are good. I was in Devil's Thirst last night and it erupted 4-5 times in a row where I just got off my sloop and it was already starting to erupt. No one should spend over half an hour trying to get on a island.
- Rowboats need to be a little bit more durable. I understand not being able to repair it and it being fragile and the necessity of that. But I think it being 50-100% more durable would still make it very fragile while making it more useful for the community.
I have high hopes for the next update. Love this game.
-
One more I’d like to throw out there after playing today. Skeletons should be effected by earthquakes. They are affected by gysers. So why not earthquakes? It’s really annoying to try to run away from a gun barrel skeleton, only to see it not flopping around and immediately catch up to you. So any land type effect (gysers, lava, earthquakes, boulders) should also effect them.
-
Some quick feedback that I've noticed while playing. First, its great and thoroughly enjoying it. thank you!
Second, there seems to be some serious lag at times especially with the volcanos. There have been several times where a volcano would erupt but no smoke wpuld be present. You have no idea before it starts or when it ends.
Third, I mentioned this as a Pioneer, but i think the volcanos occur too often. They need some extra time before they go off again.
Fourth, i am hoping we can get better steering on the rowboats. By that i mean, the turning radius. Sharper turns if possible. I do enjoy that you dont have to be perfectly aligned with the back on the boat to dock the boat. Thumbs up on that one! Love the row boat and please keep bringing DLC. Find additional incentives for Pirate Legends.
Thank you for all Rare does. This is the only game I play!
