@admiral-rrrsole Wow, just wow, 7 min ? With the possibility of it to erupt again in like 2 min ? Rare should really fix this.

And the accuracy of those rocks T_T Volacanos rocks should be random and not only targetting your ship!

    @pwn3d-l-inc
    Yeah I know, right?

My feedback after getting all the achievements of the zone. I quickly read the rest and I agree on a lot of thing.

Nice design, happy to see that the world extended. Design wise, the Devil's Roar is a success.

    BUT

It's really annoying after 1h of play. I get it, it's supposed to be an hard area. But it's only hard because you have to waste your time to win something in there. This non stop volcanos is a waste of time. really. All my sessions ended p****d of.

It's always the same loop : each time you go on an island, if it's erupting you can wait for the end, or try to go on the another one you need to go, praying that when you will arrive, it will not start to also erupting. You waste you time navigating between erupting islands. And if you are lucky enough to catch a good timing, you have to rush your exploration or you will die … and all starts over again.
Because each time you die, and try to come back on the island you need to, you have good chance that it's the time to erupt again …

I really love the game, and I was waiting the new content.A lot. And I see potential in here, but obviously they somehow still missed the shot. There is no fun in waiting endlessly the end of random events.

    - FPS -

It is not the only problem, during the eruptions there is a drastic decrease in the performance of the game.
For example, I usually play at 60fps, but during eruptions this amount drops to 25-30fps... and some elements like stones like volcano fire look like 5 fps.

  • 1

There so much things that could help you to make your session in the Devil's Roar more fun to play. I'm so frustrated that I can't stop to think about it :)

Like something that reduce/prevent damage of the volcanos rocks on you ship. It could be simply a specific sail or hull. Same thing on you pirate, like a specific hat. Maybe like a new type of "temporary" equipable, you can find it in barrels, but you lost it when you disconnect. Or you can decide to pass it to others players.
Or a new item, like a relic, or even a new type of chest. On your boat it protects you. You could find it randomly on island.
And to keep thing hard, once found, it could be marked on the world map as we now have for the hostile ships. This would be very nice.
Or you could "build" it by throwing something in a volcano.
Or even better ! you can only loot it on the megalodon or the kraken. It would give a reason to fight this 2 guys … and it connects systems in the world

I understand the intention to offer a difficult region. Keep it hard, but players need options to manage it.

  • 2

    @k3v1
Sorry mate but I don't think that's the answer. Rare are hell-bent on keeping a level playing field for all players from day 1 to Athena's 10+.

The solution would be to turn it down a little. Seven minute eruptions shouldn't start two minutes after the last. If anything they should be the other way around, only lasting two minutes with a seven minute break in between.

  • 2

    @admiral-rrrsole
It's just examples of raw ideas. For sure there is more direct solutions :)
But in a game where the game loop is already to quickly repetitive, there is a ton of small additions that could connect the dots of existing systems. I.e : I can't understand why it's still useless to fight the kraken in the game … (and the megalodon).

When I say small additions, I know it can be hard work, hard balancing, ect. I work in the video games industry on AAA games, I don't say that to shine but I know it's not always so easy to do.

Anyway, I will keep an eye on the updates !

Couldn't find anything on the forum, maybe someone here knows? Completed all the bilgerat commendations for Forsaken shores. Menu days 100/100 bu also 16/19 titles. Nobody is selling these last 3 titles and they haven't appeared in my chest...where do I get them?

  • 0

@mighty-ace123 I think the consensus is that these will be available with the cargo runs.

Agree'd. Had four volcanoes (Ashen, One near it, devils thirst and one near that) go up twice. all at the same time. almost in sync, but it pretty much cut off that entire portion of the map. for seven or so mins.. I sailed close to Ashen and boop. Up they go again.

Why do you have to make evrything merchant related such a hassle.
Cargo runs are again boring, and annoying, just like older voyages, which is precisely why so many people avoid doing them.
This would be annoying and tedious to do, even if you got standard crates that dont need special treatment, but its merchant alliance, so ofcourse they do.
    This is terrible.

Oh, and they dont even count as voyages for other commendations (e.g. doing voyages with reaper on)

I understand that you wanted to increase the difficulty of new areas with this expansion and it makes perfect sense. "Water is too hot", "We need another row boat", "The volcano is about to erupt..." These are all new scenarios that have thrilled my friends and me.

But then it's all, "Hey, all volcanos are erupting now, what do we do?!", "The last time these two were erupting was one minute ago", "I can not take two steps on the island without being hurt by a geyser that pops up just under my feet, five skeletons and two explosive barrels at the same time and no possibility of eating bananas like this", "I can't talk to any NPC in this game and stay alive", "I was killed by a combination of geysers and explosive barrels and the chest is still there but we can't go back"... Yes, we wait until the islands look quieter but the cycles are too short and unpredictable to plan anything effectively.

You really need to tone down:

    1. Number and frequency of skeletons carrying explosive barrels. Make them affected by earthquakes physics. The speed is fine, it's kind of a race, but there are too many.

    2. Frequency and distance between geysers and not targeting your feet.

    3. Frequency and range of eruptions.

    4. Aim-bot accuracy of rocks.

Plus consider making characters immune while talking to NPCs (all areas) and make the eruptions more predictable.

Wouldn't the new seas and skies look better in a reddish tone and with some lava mixed with the water? Where are the fire and ashes? I am disappointed, it could be like a new world, literally.

I think that this expansion needs to be fixed, but the game is great overall. The AI skeleton ships included since Cursed Sails is a superb addition that encourages more complex and deeper cooperation.

Thanks for the great work and see you on the seas.

@xb-fer dijo en [Mega Thread] Forsaken Shores:

    1. Aim-bot accuracy of rocks.

I think that simply the rocks should not have focus on the player, they must fall randomly....that is the chance or ability that determines if you are hit by a rock or not.

  • 1

Devil’s Thirst and Ashen Reach are both horribly broken. Ive hd them both erupt within 2 minutes of stopping from their previous eruption. It’s not fun to sit here with my thumb up my a**e for so long.

  • 2

I like this new area and expansion very much, but there is some work to be done to balance everything:

1 -Volcanoes eruption frequency: This is a very hard challenge but as challenge you should have the chance to win it. If a volcano keeps to shoot with an incredibly high rate of hit to my ship, it's simply impossible to get near to an island to complete a quest. Apart from this, I love the spectacular eruptions.

2 -Skeleton with Barrels: ok...it's fun that you tried to make PvE more challenging but, if each 2 groups of skeletons, a damn kamikaze spawns and tries to get me to hell, maybe it's a little bit harder than it should be. Yesterday, 3 barrel skeletons spawned together...ok it was awesome to get a chain of 3 explosion and kill the 2 captains I was looking for, but the rate of spawning is a little high.

3 -Devil's Plant: Maybe it's correct, but I noticed that they get parched even if put into the flooded bilge. I don't actually know if this is a bug or it's their right behavior.

4- Alliance: Since alliances banners have been introduced in Cursed Sails, and this is super awesome, you should improve this system with something less random than finding some other ships looking for an alliance. You should create a hub or something on outpost to make crews looking for allies more visible into the server. This could be an advice in the tavern or making the crew visible in the map, as the Reaper Mark flag.

I was doing a Athena mission earlier, long story short we broke our cargo mission bottles.
So we sat them on the top deck, around 10 minutes later they appeared to be together again but they looked cracked,
They returned to the broken thumbnail once we picked up & put back down.
Just thought I'd let the dev's know about the bug.

    Happy sailing

My only real issue with Forsaken shores is the length of time of the eruptions. I think the length could be dropped a little bit. Or maybe do one or two small eruptions where the flying rocks fall closer to the island but are not large in quantity, then that dies down for a bit followed by a massive eruption that launches the rocks further out and in more quantity.

As of right now, the programmed eruptions are boring. All we have to do is anchor our galleon behind some large rock formation and use the row boat or wait for the eruption to end. Not a lot of strategy or fun (like trying to get close and dodging the rocks like we do with skeleton cannons). I would also like to see the accuracy of the lava rocks toned down a bit. It seemed like whatever turning maneuver I did to avoid a "static path" projectile, was futile. Some how, the rocks coming towards us knew exactly where we were in order to hit us.

I'm hoping some tweaks will be done to make this more fun and more challenging to encourage some crazy tactics (like sailing right up to the volcano and hugging its coastline during an eruption).

Please stop the bloop. It comes when a rowboat is mounted on the sloop. It drives me crazy and up the wall. Please Rare make this Noise a bit quiter. Thank you

Try the new update ... and the activity of the volcanoes sadly remains the same, I mainly talk about:

    • Stabilize performance during eruptions (the fps fall drastically)
    • Reduce the activity of volcanoes
    • Reduce gunpowder skeletons

The problem is that these things damage the player base, many stop playing due to how frustrating the game becomes like some of my friends.
Rare, it's okay to add difficulty, but it must be fair and not boring (you go away with the boat, a stone kills you, the boat is undetached, respawn, several minutes to return to the island, the same thing happens..).

  • 1

Just made a thread where I describe my disappointment. And here is all have been mentioned more than once. I join the question on too frequent eruptions of volcanoes and homing stones. As well as such a flimsy boat, which can be destroyed with one Cannonball... I hope Rare are reading this topic, and listen to what you write here. Since all of the above written needs revision.

  • 2

I get that the volcano area is supposed to be terrifying. And it should be high-risk-high-reward. But the volcanoes have skullfort-canon-level aim. Considering they erupt ever 2-3 minutes when you're close, their aim should be toned down a bit.

Either that or make them erupt slightly less often. Today, in the space of less than fifteen minutes the same volcano erupted three times and sunk four ships. That there, should be an indication that they need tweaked...

  • 0

I noticed another funny moment, sometimes there is no animation of smoke and fire from the crater, as well as the fire plume behind the falling stones... so will not even notice when stone on head will fall. xD

@admiral-rrrsole Outstanding work. Kondrites stands and claps for the entire three part session.

Why, thank you kind Kondrites. :o)

After playing DR thoroughly, I don't see any real engaging aspects to the game play additions and no real challenge. Rare somehow managed to add time gate mechanics to moment to moment game play by layers of inconvenient annoyances. Its kind of a catastrophic screw up when the game already requires heavy time investments to get to anything interesting and is already filled with dead time.

  • 1

I've found the noises associated with docking the rowboat a bit disturbing... All crunchy-creaky-grindy noises that make me think not only will my rowboat disintegrate, but everything in it! Just a minor detail but... It gets me every time!

While playing around with the timings/mechanics of the volcanos in DR I managed to get my pirate on top of the volcano on 'The Devil's Thirst'. Since there was no hole in the ground to indicate a lava-sea or something alike, I got curious how it'd look like standing there while the volcano erupts.
From what I had written down earlier this volcano should erupt every 25mins (10mins after the most recent eruption until the red glow begins, 10mins until a short earthquake as last warning to get off, 5mins until eruption).
When I got up the crystal-like stones were already glowing but I don't have the concrete time. After 50minutes I still wasn't able to witness the eruption, but every 9-11minutes occured the 'short earthquake' but nothing else and by the time of the 5th quake the game closed itself.
Since my notes are a 1/1 report and I'm therefore unsure whether the eruption patterns are somewhat random or fix, I wonder whether this was me being 'unlucky' or if there's a mechanic/bug which prevents volcanos from erupting when players are on top of it.

If anyone got 'intel' on that matter I'd be really grateful to hear/read it.

    SUGGESTION:
Put up a notification when someone (a friend) joins your crew.

Now that the row-boats are out, I often want to row away from my ship (or not return to a sunken ship), but I want to leave my closed crew open for friends.
Now if they join me, there is no way for me to know that they are there and they will just find an empty ship.
I would therefore like to get a notification, much like the notification you get when a ship joins your alliance. That way I know that I have to either return to my ship or let them know one way or another where I am.

    Hello Guys,

after some days of sailing through devils roar, I just want to leave some feedback here. I tested mainly the solo sloop and made some few rounds with the galleon.

First, I started with the campaign. I loved to explore some new islands, and feeling the atmosphere of the new dangerous region. After this one, its started to get harder. I completed all of the explore and campaign missions and wanted to start some voyages. I needed some time to develop some mechanics to get the job done, but even after I done this, things doesn’t work that well.

But why? Because there are a lot of factors that count into it. For Example: Leave your boat alone 1,5 squares to the next island. That’s fine, but that meg will come and destroy your ship, feels not great at all. What to do now? Meg will go away if you are near to an island – doesn’t work in dr. Repair? Yes, but it happens that Meg will stay for the next 20 minutes. Or even more. Row away? The best option so far. Get to the island, and row back because the volcano is about to explode. Wait 5 minutes and watch how your ship gets destroyed by meg. After this, you go to the island and will be able to get 2 out of 4 chests, row back to the outpost and respawn at your ship at the other half of the map. Sail back for another 15 minutes. That’s how it mainly happened to me.

I’ve got different feelings right now. I’ve got 2 chests, that’s the more than the price and also a lot more gold compared to the normal missions. So all the trouble was not that bad. Except if I want to complete 5/5 voyages. It happens ones to me, that I made it to chapter 3, after 3 hours of sailing. After this, I felt like I run a marathon. There is no way to get this if you only can play 1-2 hours per day.

But enough of the complaining from the solo side of sailing.

As I mentioned above, I sailed one time with a galleon. To be exactly: three experienced pirate, and one complete new one. While the new one was busy, drinking grog the whole time, the rest of us were searching for some chests. One guy stayed at the boat, while 2 were at the island. That was literally a blast. We got 4 chests in no time, and had no problems at all. Even some hits from the volcano in the beginning weren’t that bad, when 3 pirates repair at the same time, its no problem to sail out of range. While I was quite happy because this was way more enjoyable then the solo sloop, my mates stopped really quick because it was to stressful for them. So, back to the solo sloop.

    TL:DR

Sailing with a four-man galleon in devils roar is balanced and makes a lot of fun. Solo sailing is way too exhausting and unforgiving.

Okay, sooo..... Forsaken Shores is THE MOST annoying update so far.. hear me out.. It is all great except for the volcanoes. I sit two billion miles from the island and wait for it to stop errupting... Then I go to the island and dock (takes like 45 seconds at most).... Then AS SOON AS I GET THERE.....Guess what!! just guess! It erupts again?! It is not fun running from an island 24/7 in order to get a voyage finished...... Fix it please. There are a multitude of things that you can do.... Shroten the duration of eruptions, make the time between eruptions longer, or lower the range at which they can hit you from. They can hit the next island over which is insane.... Please fix your game that was fun and not rage inducing.

With the Forsaken Shores campaign coming to an end, here's my feedback. Both good things, and things that could've been better:

    PROS:
Overall FANTASTIC update! I loved being able to explore a brand new part of the map with threats and landscapes that we have never seen before. It brought all new life to the game for me. It's very fun and difficult way to voyage on the Sea of Thieves for more profit!

I found this update to be very polished and bug free for the most part. Congrats to Rare for such a smooth launch with this one.

    CONS:
The Devil's Roar itself does not need much improvement in my eyes. It's challenging enough but not too challenging, and the rewards are appropriate. The improvements that need to be made are a result of how the Devil's Roar balances with other things in the game

To me, the Devil's Roar has introduced a profit value that makes it hard for other challenges in this game to compete with.

For example, when Skeleton Ship clouds appear, I rarely feel the need to drop what I'm doing in the Devil's Roar to go engage, because I know that my time will yield a greater profit in the Devil's Roar.

I think a good question now is- what can be done so that players don't feel like they must spend all of their time in this part of the map to get the most out of their time?
