I was led to believe you get them by having you PVP flag up... but nothing on the net supports that. Then I saw something about Bilge Rat events only.. SO CONFUSED!</p>

Save your doubloons for level purchases until later when it will drastically cut your time. When you purchase status from duke it gives 1 full level.   So 2 to 3 or 48 to 49. Still 1 levem</p>

You get doubloons by doing those commendations..and then in every tavern there is a bilge rat that you can speak to, to spend them on limited time rewards or gold or rep. Each bilge rat adventure or DLC that comes out will release new commendations with it so you can earn more doubloons to buy more limited rewards or other goodies depending on what you want to spend them on!</p>
