I was unable to complete the cursed mermaid statues before taking vacation. I returned in the middle of cursed sails and I'm now finding it difficult to find mermaid statues. Are they still in the game?

Yes, they are still in the game... however, they are extremely rare to find so it will just take some time to complete. Keep an ear out for the mysterious hum they give off when sailing around.
@musicmee Thanks. I swim/run around every island I stop at. Most times my crew is already at the next island by the time I finish. Lol, I'm not much help these days.
