    I would have no problems with the cursed cannonballs, if you would carry them like a skull and no way to put it into a barrel, means also that they're not in the radial menu...

    @teh-magnus the program do work but as you just read :

    "We know that these are some fundamental changes to core systems players use every session, but this sets us up well for some of our exciting new updates coming down the line that are going to require players to have plenty more storage space!"

    We can only hope they improve this mess really quick !
    I feel like I'm going to give the game a little break because I just can't deal with that very impractical new system so a week break will help me get forward in my other games.

    I like most of this patch. Yay kraken! Yay cursed cannonballs! Boo! They ruined barrels though I liked it the way it was they just
    Needed to adjust the spawn pattern. This new barrel system sucks! staying alive at skullfort by yourself is impossible now and you should have to look in a barrel to see it's fricken empty omgsh do you realize how frustrating that is! Athenas are gonna be hell to have to stop and waste time at a barrel! This game is already time consuming as it is and now you make it take more time loading/grabbing supplies. YAWN! Switch it back no new barrel system 👎👎👎👎
    Whoevers idea this barrel system is you ruined my day with this new patch. This is my favorite game why you going to ruin it noooo! 😢😢😢
    Hoping this finds its way to devs. I literally logged on for 20 mins to check out update and I hopped back off and idk if I will play till it's changed

    It is hard to grab stuff quickly from a barrel now, not worth to get bananas on a skeleton fort if there are skeletons nearby

    @triheadedmonkey You're right that Pioneers are not to be blamed for something that they raised concerns about. I understand that you're reacting to that accusation. I think that you could explain your perspective a little better.

    Pioneers are under a strict NDA, not only for the testing and feedback they give but also any content that subsequently makes it into the main game.

    The CANNOT talk about any of it without breaching that NDA and possibly losing their place in the programme.

    It is very hard when they read accusations in the main forums and they know they need to bite their tongues and cannot respond.

    However @Sonicbobjr made some small mention of it here -

    We’ve seen the feedback from Pioneers and now with the wider playerbase that this new system does take a little longer to stock your ship, we’re monitoring this closely and will be balancing and tweaking the quantity of resources found in Barrels to account for the slight delay in future updates.

    It makes no sense to me that a barrel can now contain multiple item types. It's a serious strain on suspension of disbelief. But more importantly, it's a major pain in the stern. If barrels only contained one type of item, clearly labeled (like before), this system could work. On a PC, if you hit "F" it opens the barrel. If you continue hitting "F" you take all the items in the first slot. Just like it was before, basically, with only two extra steps of opening and closing the barrel. If only one type of item was contained within each barrel (like on your ship), this would be a much more streamlined (and sensible) process. Naturally, cursed cannonballs could still be found in barrels containing normal cannonballs.

    To me, this would strike a compromise between the sleeker old system and the more flexible new system.

    To be clear about why I think multiple item type barrels are so ridiculous...well just think about it. Nobody in their right mind would stock barrels of supplies like that. It's just silly and annoying and...please make it go away. :'(

    So after playing 3 hours on the new update i have come to my conclusion.

    The cursed cannonballs:

    • The cannonballs are why to common to come by and are very powerful, locking down a ship is very easy. And if you fire the right cannonball 1st you can totally shut down a ship.
      Solution: I think the cursed cannonballs should spawn on a particular island (in the center of the map) guarded by the high tier skeletons. So if you want cannonballs you must go to the island fight the skeletons and any other crews going for the cursed cannonballs.
      ...
      ...
      ...

    The looting:

    • Currently you have no idea if a barrel is empty or not, and this wastes a lot of time in the looting process. You also don't know what barrels contain which resources.
      Solution: Add a description to the barrels, listing the contents it contains. The indication of a barrels contents can be done via a small icon of a banana, cannonball or plank.**
    • The amount of items you can now store on your boat is ridiculous, the fight can on for ever. This just further upsets the balance of PvP...
      Solution: there should be and extra barrel on the boat for the cursed cannonballs, that can carry a maximum of 10/20 per type of cursed cannonball. And the amount of bananas and planks carried on a boat should be reverted back to what they where before the patch.

    I have not gone into full detail of how i would have implemented these changes but you should get a rough idea, I am a big fan of this game I want it to succeed. I don't know if my message would even be seen but for those of you who read this please share your thoughts on my fix.

    I am usually sitting down to start playing about now. Just checked my friends list and not one of them is playing. I wont be either until the barrels revert to how they functioned yesterday.

    If nothing changes then I am done with the game.

    I was 45/45/45 and Athena 4. I am not a new player, I have slogged my guts out to get this far.

    Long and short of it, you took something that was intuitive and worked flawlesly and ruined it.

    "Empty" label needed.

    "Take All" option needed

    and the supplies on the ship should be the same as it used to be. There are other barrels that could have been used for other supplies. or at least be able to set default one click grab from barrels (or make it bananas all the time)

    Radial menu for cursed cannonballs while using the cannon would be nice as well.

    Some Suggestions:

    -the barrels should show wether they are empty or not when you look at them, so you don't need to open empty barrels

    -the barrels on the ship should use the old system because it was much faster what is important in case you need to restock during a battle. With F and R (on pc) you could use the old quick acces system and pressing another key (maybe C or X because you won't need that often) could bring up the new system in case you need any other resource (Cursed Cannonballs) besides the standard 3.

    -on pc the exit barrel button which currently is bound to X is a bit annoying, Tab, E or R would be way more convenient

    -same thing for the way you take resources, it would be easier to have F take resources from the barrel into your inventory and R to take those from your inventory to the barrel, instead of having to swap sides. By that you wouldn't even need the Q and E keys, which then could act as exit key for the inventory (same for the associated controller buttons)

    -a take all button would also make things way more convenient

    Barrels 2.0 is almost good, but needs a couple of tweaks to be useful. Right now it feels very clunky getting items out of a barrel.

    I'm on PC and use the F key to open barrel. If I keep hitting F it'll put the matching first item in to the barrel, but I have to speed click the item in the barrel to take it. It would be nice if I could use R to take the first item and when empty go to the next item in the barrel list and continue to empty it.

    Since I don't recall the previous mechanic just because it's in muscle memory, didn't R stock barrels and F take. Maybe I'm wrong, but something is messing with my stock/unstock flow.

    Hey all,

    now my take on this. :)

    Let me start by saying, that I've defended almost every single change, that has been made in this game. I'm still looking forward to all the new things that have been talked about in videos, interviews and streams. But if I've seen this new UI change before it was released, I would have been very vocal against it.

    The previous system was simple and very fluid. And much more immersive. You felt like you were actually manipulating planks/cannonballs/whatever else. This is beginning to abandon the immersive pirate experience and turning SoT into just another game...

    I get the need to improve the system, because of more resources and items that might be coming, but it should have been handled differently. On our ships, there's more than enough space for other barrels, or allowing us to choose the default resource, that would show for a player when approaching the barrel, with a long press of a button and than have it work like it did before.

    Player's inventory could have worked on a similar basis. Maybe allowing us to customize the pages of inventory wheel to our prefered stuff. It would also give us more strategy options and would help to define roles of each crew member. (specialize in fighting, repairing etc.)

    For rare resources, there could have been a choice to leave an empty slot (or more) in the wheel, that would get populated by whatever you've picked up.

    In short, I love this game and this community. It makes me sad to say this, but I really don't like this.

    It feels like I'm just playing another game now. Before, I wasn't playing, I was a pirate...

    The cannon balls look amazing but i feel theres too many even in the few barrels i checked. Supplies seem less as well. The barrel mechanic is trash. The new skins look better in game then they did in the trailer so i recommend getting them. For some reason they broke everyone's eyes so now they are super dilated. My eye looks completely black how or what in the name of Davey Jones would have done this to my lovely green eyes they look like snake eyes from the side now. Rare what are you doing? How are you doing it? Go home your drunk.

    Swimming down to wrecks for stock is just tiresome now.
    Stop, open barrel, fill/ignore, close barrel. Swim on...just no.

    It just feels very clunky.

    As many have suggested, you should be able to see if the container was empty at a glance.

    Also there are less resources than ever in the barrels, making stocking up quite difficult. It was quite consuming before but now it's even worse.

    So, because of this the title bar keeps poping up (the bar with minimize, maximize and close) and I was just on a fort fighting skeletons, trying to grab bananas really quickly and then close the new thing and fight skeletons, and that way I clicked close in the title bar. So the game got closed and I lost all my cursed cannonballs (like 7 different, 25 total)... This ruins the whole purpose of the new inventory, as well as the combat in Sea of Thieves. If you keep this, atleast add a confirmation step.

    In my opinion, there should be a quick way to access the barrels, so you can grab some bananas during a fight without slowing down. The best you could do would be to bring back the R for filling and F for emptying the barrel. To make this possible with multiple items in the barrel, there should be one primary item in every barrel that is accessible from the outside, and once its gone the barrel could switch the primary item. Barrels are also missing an indicator for whether they are empty or not. Having a rotating primary item accessible from the outside would fix this aswell.

    Also it is quite frustrating that the equipment tab is the first tab you're presented with. We can access our equipment via the equipment wheel, this I'd prefer the Resources tab to be the first one. This way the new inventory serves a better purpose.

    Make cursed cannonballs changeable from the inventory wheel with the left or right directional buttons. Then you can dump this new barrel system. Just move to cannonballs and while holding rb (or whatever it is on PC) hit the left or right directional buttons or arrow keys.

    This new barrel ui is so slow for xbox players, maybe pc players too. In a pvp fight it needs to be quick not f*****g around with what I neeed looking in a barrel.

    This is really bad. Please go back to the whiteboard and figure this one out.

    Why do I have to open the barrel of planks on the ship to put/pull planks if I can only have planks in there.

    Please go back to the old system and figure out a new method. I have plenty of better ways to do this.

    It's sad listening to streamers who are playing, and constant yelling 'this is so frustrating'. one is utterly devastated by the commendation changes....
