FIX OPEN CREW OR WATCH THE GAME DIE OFF

  • Need search preferences with out it the game is ruined. I'v been in a solo galleon open crew tryin to find a competent crew for over a half hr and hardly anyone has joined let alone been competent. we need level based search prefrences. we need event based search preferences. this game will die off otherwise.
    end rant/suggestion.
    [Mod edited]

This is the way it went im solo in a galleon sittin at a fort getting kegs and supplies. 3 [mod edited] join absolutely no cloths just [Mod edited] sailors. i say dont leave.they leave. i drop anchor when i get back and tell them the plan i say don't lift the anchor they start lifting it. i say if yall leave ima sabotage the ship since yall are sabotaging my galleon. and so i had no choice to keg the ship sink it w/ all my kegs and supplies and leave the game in attempt to find an actually competent crew. thanks rare this open crew [Mod edited] wont ever work the way it is.

    Hey,

I'd suggest using LFG on xbox/xbox app, Discord or these forums. You have a much better chance of finding what you're looking for.

Also as soon as you do that level based matchmaking, game will become super unfriendly for new players, as they'll mostly be joined with others, who don't know what to do or are playing just to troll others.

Iv had this dumb suggestion b4 i don't like it. i will never choose to find a crew this way. its not in game and its more effort then its worth. i should not have to spend an hr on the forum or an hr on the xbox app looking for a crew via outside game forums. this should be built into the game. and btw finding a crew via discord xbox app doesn't mean those guys arn't [Mod edited] sailors aswell. just saying.

  • @vderickv

well i'm sorry then, but you are given a few tools to fix your "problem", closed crews were created because of the exact issues you've stated and a lot of us use those without any bigger issues. It's your decision not to use them.

Id like to address this specifically.
What you are saying is so far from the truth its funny. a search preference is just that a preference. it does not mean a guaranteed lobby every time. its just a preference you can set so if someone else has the same preference you have more of a possibility of getting in game with like minded individuals make pvp a preference pve a preference an events preference and a level based preference. and again its not a garentee it is just a suggested search setting.

  • You can organize a pile of trash all you want, it’s still trash.

If you want to find legitimately good players to do events with, join any of the SoT discord’s out there.

  • The risk is here... if you put a drop down that says...

    Would you like to play with;

    • Pirate Legends and get all the high-level treasure
    • Pirates new to the game

I can put my money on which nearly everyone would click, and then you would end up with a backlog at one end of the spectrum and empty servers/crews at the other.

This just moves the problem, I think it can be achieved in many other ways, like player profiling but solely putting it in players hands is an issue waiting to happen.

Thanks for proving my point bud.
Yes if you want to find a legit competent crew the only option is to go online and spend over an hr + looking for a competent crew. THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE.
You should be able to go into any lobby set a preference and have the same possibility.

Then it goes to what sir lotus said it can become super unfriendly for the new players so again i say you have to fix open crew the only option for a good crew cant be spending hrs on the forums finding no lifes.

  • The LFG feature usually only takes me about 2 minutes. Set it up for experienced players only, state what you want to do, set the time for now, and check their stats as they begin to arrive. All in all, using this method, I am often in the game with a full competent crew in less than 5 minutes.

  • @vderickv said in FIX OPEN CREW OR WATCH THE GAME DIE OFF:

again, we already have that. It's called "closed crew". Making an lfg post with writing those prefefences on xbox takes max. 2 mins and usualy you'll get responses from others in a minute or so. There's no good argument against using it for this.

  • @vderickv no you still don’t understand, you’re not going to find good players in game even with search preferences because all the good players make their crews in third party apps prior to even booting up the game. If you want preferences go ahead ask for them, I’m just saying you won’t get better results.

P.S. it takes about 5 min to find a crew in the discord I’m in, only takes an hour if you’re known on there for trolling

The way everyone is putting it "look for ppl on the forum or discord"
IT IS SOLELY UP TO THE PLAYERS. I'm saying i want good players to use open crew. the way its setup right now. they wont. and also i said lvl based so if you're not a legend you would not be able to search preference a legends mission.

Let me edit this and add that just cuz u set the search preference to legends mission as a legends doesn't mean you wont be put into a noob sailor group just the possibilitys are lower.

How would you know you wouldn't find a good crew if this got added? I seriously cant disagree with this statement more.

Yo i will give xbox app a try right now if it takes longer then 5 mins to find a competent crew that wants to do the event then your argument is invalid! TEST STARTS NOW!

  • @vderickv I said discord not Xbox app smh and you’re still not listening, these preferences won’t magically stop me using discord or other software, those are just better for finding people than any ingame system. It’s not like you’re missing out on some gems in the dirt, you’re digging in the wrong place.

Want some actual advice instead of arguing with me? Download discord, look up sea of thieves community server and join it. Guarantee you in 5 minutes you’ll find a lfg post with your preferences.

  • 5 mins has passed. I have yet to get 1 response via xbox app. I'm not in the discord but i stand by what i said. I should not HAVE to use the discord/xbox app to find a competent crew.

  • @vderickv you sure you posted it correctly? cos i was looking and didn't see your post anywhere.

  • @sir-lotus
depends on what group you're in there are 3 i cant join on xbox because i need to wait for the "request invitation" to work

  • @vderickv You can do it directly from the Sea of Thieves Game Hub page, no need to be in any group that way and you reach all players of the game.

I've also noticed on there you can filter by language AND schedule a time so if you know you're looking for a group to play Friday night you can schedule it beforehand, very nice!

  • @vderickv I play 90% with LFG on the Xbox, the other 10% with players I've met from LFG.
On open crews it's very difficult to find a communicating crew and close to impossible to find a competent one. So I've given up on that.

What did your LFG post look like? I find that if I put a "good" post up you get bites very fast. For example:

    #Mic Required #Experienced Players #Galleon #SkellieShips
I'm a PL looking to do Marauders Arch Skellies, I have the sails.

That will get filled in less than 5 minutes. But if you put a post that either doesn't appeal or has no details, then it will get ignored or take a quite some time to fill.

Here's a real example of a post that I think took me 15 minutes to get a bite, but when it did it was a good player, someone I still play with.

    #Mic Required #Sloop #Merchant Alliance
I'm level 35 MA, doing a few voyages.

  • @musicmee said in FIX OPEN CREW OR WATCH THE GAME DIE OFF:

Can we just all agree that this form of open crew is trash and needs fixed.
I'm sorry to burst all your bubbles but there are a lot of ppl like me who just don't want to search forums for a competent crew.
And leaving open crew broken will just make the player base die off.

  • I get where the OP is coming from. I'm not fond of having to look for players to enjoy the game 'the way it's meant to be played,' outside of the actual game. It would be nice if there was a way to do that, built-in to the game, in a Sea of Thieves style.

I've got a story not far off from yours, @vDerickv, I posted about a week ago, lol.

You can call me a griefer - https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/69431/you-can-call-me-a-griefer

  • I have to agree I've had a mixed bag with open crews... but I like the idea that it gives newbies to the game a chance to sail with more experienced pirates to show them the ropes, share knowledge and stories...

These new players have got to have hopes and aspirations not all just wedged on a galleon with none of them knowing what to do. That's when the game will go down the pan!

  • @musicmee said in FIX OPEN CREW OR WATCH THE GAME DIE OFF:

Ya but this is already whats happening.... so from what you're saying the game is already going down the pan...

  • I feel like the op is here to argue for the sake of argument.

I was going to suggest just playing with friends, but after the few post I have read I can see how that may be an issue.

As stated already, you could have your search functions in game and it would change nothing.

Arbitrarily speaking for the rest of us buy stating 'The Game Will Die' if your ideas are not implemented is counter-productive and frames the short-sighted vision you have for this game, as well as the minimal respect you seem to have for anyone.

I know no-one cares, but i was finishing up lunch and need to kill a little time.

what do you call a blind deer? I have no-eye deer.

What do you call a blind deer in a suit? I still have no-eye deer!

    ba-da-chi... I'll show myself out.

  • @musicmee problem with open crews is basically that the mixture on the bag is mostly something that would get censured by the forum, either by lack of communication or by "trolling".
If you open crew had some minimal filters (Mic/No Mic, Language, MA/OoS/GH/Event/Any, Minimum Level) it would improve considerably on it. You'd still get some trolls, but at least you'd have the chance to getting a competent crew going.

  • @vderickv said in FIX OPEN CREW OR WATCH THE GAME DIE OFF:

Can we just all agree that this form of open crew is trash and needs fixed.

sorry but no. once again. The solution for what you want is a closed crew.

Open crew is open for anyone, i thought it was kinda obvious just from the name "open". I was wrong apparently.

What you're suggesting is a bad idea, but just out of curiousity, how would you manage preferences while joining existing crews?

Does the original preference setting stay with the ship, or is it player based? Like everyone leaves over the time, does the crew now have a new preference set, or does the original still apply? If it's player based, whos preferences get more priority in case it's one vs one? The person who was there longer? Setting aside all the things that have already been said in here, it creates so many technical issues and problems, that it's not worth it. You have many options on how to find a good crew, use them. They work in other games, no reason why they shouldn't work in here.

I don't have friends playing 24/7 sorry i'm not some streamer or some no life who has no job. my friends aren't some no life streamers either. all my friends have daily jobs.

Sorry to again burst your bubble. but the game is dying in open crew. i cant even join a galleon to do the event let alone find a competent crew who will even play. so again i say yes it will die if something isn't done.

  • @riareth For me, and yes I know this is a cop out...

I would like it if there was a way to integrate LFG directly in the game, then those are currently using it don't need to learn something else but maybe have a stylised Looking for Crew page that is basically just a modified version of the Xbox App/LFG page in game similar to how the Add Friend pane just pops out after doing the emote.

Stays with the ship, but can be changed at anytime by allowing a player to specify new "settings" and for the crew to vote, the same way you can vote to open/close the crew.

Like everyone leaves over the time, does the crew now have a new preference set, or does the original still apply?

Original still applies, unless the crew votes for a change.

  • @vderickv Look, the next time you find decent players, add them as a friend. The next time you see a post where someone says they are always willing to help, add them as a friend.

Open crew is c**p because everyone else adds people to the friends list so they not only know that they are competent and play well, but so they have a good pool of people to play with at any given time.

and sometimes you have to just take what open crew gives you or sail solo... just please don't expect things to always cater to your immediate need... nothing in life works that way...

This game is not pizza, it cant make EVERYONE happy...

You say i have many options. you have given me one. discord. list more plz.

You say its a bad idea because of the preferences stacking as the players join/ leave and it getting mixed. that would mean the preferences were not working. If they worked you could have a mic preference crew or a text talk preference an oos mission preference or GH mission preference a pvp/pve/idc preference. all those preferences would make an impact on who you are teamed with and in all honestly COULD fix this.

  • @vderickv I understand that... just the more the merrier... in fact add me...

not sure when you play but I usually solo or 2-man a brig... feel free to drop in if you see me on.

Added. I play from 3:30pm pst - about 10pm pst on work days
i play whenever on days off.

  • @vderickv

ok, i ate dinner and calmed down a bit. :) Options are discord, guilded ( and many other similar apps, that i don't use), lfg, xbox sot club and forums. I get what you're saying, but i disagree with it. I think open crews should stay as a random thing, just the mic preference (which should be working now automatically, if i'm not mistaken).

Also, I don't play every day and mostly with people i know, but feel free to add me as well.
