Getting your friend in the same server as you is not currently an easy feat. So you could make friends with a random crew and allow them to kill you, but they get the benefits. Not the actual person with the wanted tag. I’d even suggest it’s a game session thing and not something that carries over, which at the least means people like that won’t hang around on the same server all night being a pain to everyone else. And if they do well at least there’s some ecentive to try and get your own back on them or have a few crews team up to take them down.

Anyway was just a suggestion, it might not work out or be a good one in the end when the logistics are worked through.

Meaning kill whoever and however many times you like but you become more of a target somehow every time you do and there’s a rewards for the crew/crews that end up taking you down. Then it’s reset. That is to say: The ability to laugh and giggle about how much of a punk (I'd use another word spelled with a D here if I were allowed) I can be at times.

That's not even considering the potential shock the player might have gotten seeing someone in their face causing them to over-react, or the fear that the player would eat their faces if they were known to be around, or maybe they were looking to camp for cheap loot and you walked in on their "hidey" places... or who knows what their motive was.

Was it a cheap shot? Sure...

But I bet they got a giggle out of it, or at least a sigh of relief.

I've also been shot in the back whilst in a shopkeeper's menu. It was mildly irritating, but then I understood where they were coming from. As long as we don't get any errors being killed at the same moment as confirming a purchase, I don't see it as much of an issue.

Although...I'd love to see shopkeepers fire back. Especially in the taverns. Could you imagine? "HEY. I said, take it outside. You're liable to put a hole in my grog barrels..."

They do have it as an achievement to do this. So why wouldn't someone take advantage of this moment? I sure would :)

The only crime here is he didn’t say something funny before he did it. If you’re gonna do something like that at least make us laugh. I did it to someone once and I asked them what they were buying while they were in the shop menu. It was in the equipment shop not the clothing shop but it’s the same concept. He responded just a bilge rat shovel. And as any pirate with any class would do I shot him with a blunderbuss while saying “Get that grungy sh*t out of here”. Did the man a favor.

@a-trusty-mango this is exactly why buried treasure even exists, because they would hide the loot and play dumb, and my point still remains, if they killed the crew and sunk the ship we wouldn’t ever hear about it if they were any kind of competent pirates.

In either case justifying their actions or demonizing a person because as a player in a video game they kill you and in 30 seconds you respawn back and especially when no loot was lost, is laughable and more “toxic” than someone who just knows it’s a video game and plays it how they want. It has literally zero correlation to their real life morals or personality, and I would even say people who constantly jump through the hoops of other people’s moral expectations in real life (a good person to make it simple) would likely have more reason to let those things go when they are selfishly trying to enjoy a video game.

If anything I just think it’s kinda funny that pirate combat is supposed to be put aside in an open world pvp game for the sake of “a thing you just don’t do, shoot a girl in the back when shopping” now that’s pretty hilarious lol. As the joke the op intended it to be (I think?) it’s funny but even funnier if it’s serious. idk what people expect in a pirate game. Like others have explained either the person had loot or didn’t want to deal with enemy players for whatever reason.
