The Marauder's Chest actually contained more Gold than one of the Captain's Chests, which is unacceptable.

We then did a one hour long Order of Souls Missions that found us around 3K -4K of loot, and we even did just one Merchant's Mission that only required two animals to be captured that gave us more than that Gold Hoarder's mission did, and the Merchant's Quest took less than half an hour!

I wouldn't be upset about this if it was a once-in-a-blue-moon occurrence. But it's not. It's a consistent theme that makes doing Gold Hoarder missions not worth the time or money it takes to buy the missions in the first place.

UPDATE: Just turned in a Grog Chest. It was worth 750G. What is even the point of the Gold Hoarder's Missions anymore?

Because Rare is lazy and this is the easiest way to stretch the "content".

Yes we dug one out last night that only gave 590.

I noticed the nerf as well, though I do still get some for 1000 gold. I feel it’s pretty well balanced when I get a captains 3 out of five chests, only work to be done is kill random spawns and one wave of skeletons when you dig it, but that doesn’t even happen Every time you dig.

Skulls tend to grant more and I’m glad for it because there’s more effort needed, random spawns plus multiple waves of skeletons AND then The boss, or bosses to get your loot.

So for the effort involved in gaining each item I feel it’s perfectly balanced.

Yeah, I noticed all captains, sorrows and grog chests give out lower rewards since the last patch. The athena missions give out better chests, but with lower rewards. Skulls seem to be about the same.

I've heard rumors that if lower level people turn the chests, skulls, etc. in, then they have a better chance of selling for higher. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?

Edit: I remember them selling for higher when I was lower level. But I also am aware that the prices have been nerfed since then.

I think 599 is lowest value for the Captains Chest... So they can be disappointing.

I pulled in a captain's chest just a couple hours ago that sold for 583

Same exact issue here, in the beginning Captains chest would give me more than 1000 and now around 600 to 700 and not only that but recently after last Tuesdays update i seem to run in to more castaway chests and seafarer chests which supposedly at higher levels should be the opposite.

Thats weird. Im finding captains chests all the time and never had less than 800 for it.

I've received 1300 for a grog too. But I've had around the 600 mark too.

When you just want thr money then merchant alliance is the best for you...and by the way, the xp is always the same no matter if the captains chest gives you 600 or 1100

You can still get around 1100 max for them. Its a random roll.

@koolgoldfinch me and my regular crew recieve 6-10 captains chests. Since they boosted the rewards recieced for the higher lvls. At 45-50 your looking at 3 cursed 12 captais and 17 marauders on a decent voyage...

Thats y the prices were nerfed

The captains chest nerf happened many, many moons ago, at least 2 months or more. I believe the reasoning behind this, is that the GH faction is arguably one of the easiest to gain reputation in due to the sheer number of items you find for that faction. To offset that, I feel they lowered the value of the captains chest. I have no evidence to support this, but it is just my opinion.

@koolgoldfinch hey mate that is disappointing. I can help you though. If you see me on let me know and I can join your boat and drop you a lvl 50 gold hoarder quest. Atleast it will have a better set of rewards
