Grinding is already slow. Personally, I think the additional effect would be minimal, and add variation and life to the game.

I love the idea of card and dice games, but that will also "slow the grind" because players will be "camping the outpost" while playing the games, causing those who want to turn their goods in to run elsewhere.

Exactly.

Maybe give the Smugglers different personalities and rates, and have them show up at different outposts on different nights. Some of their rates could even beat the daytime dealers.

But if implemented, the current selling rates could be the black market rates and the prime time rates could get a 25% bump (for example). That way, it wouldn't de-incentivise people from selling at night for the rates they're used to, but it might incentivise them to hang on to their loot just a little bit longer for a better cash-in (risk vs. reward).

seem to do so on the premise of "immersion", makes the game more immersive, etc..

If we want to focus this towards an immersion aspect, how about we concentrate on the fact that we cant even open chests we find in the first place, they have to be taken to some gold hoarder dude at an outpost.. being able to open our own chests with special keys or lockpick or with a blunderbuss or anything in general for me, would make this a lot more immersive at the moment than simply making the outposts only operate at certain times in the day.

I still think PVP wise it would only increase problems with campers as you would know without a doubt that at X time there will be someone showing up with something to turn in. No point to do your own voyages at all when every 20 minutes or so a ship will show up with loot to steal. yeah they can go to different outposts, but you can just follow them around until closing time then head them off at the nearest one.. i dont think turning in hard earned loot should be limited to a certain time frame in the game, at all

This won't change the fact that people can turn in at ANY outpost... if people choose to camp they are playing the long and boring game.... there are so many outposts, there is never a guarantee they will ambush someone... also if camping is a problem, be on look out more, or don't be so predictable. This change would not force anyone to turn in at the break of dawn... simple planning could avoid that too.

@Shuoink I don't know if there is any need for pirates to conduct business in darkness in this game - there is literally no armada or military or anything to hide from :) And if you gotta 'hop off' then turn in your loot before it closes. If you have to 'hop off' due to unforeseen circumstances then that is unfortunate but that's a part of most online games, to be honest even with a day/night cycle it would be easier to hop off on this game than a lot of other online games, and I don't think a maximum of 15-20 minutes is too long.. it goes quite fast while you are playing.

These are just my opinions anyway xD I'd find it quite exciting having another element of the game which requires thought and consideration.

The lights would remain on but you go there and the NPCs have vanished, doors shut. Haha wouldn't it be hilarious of those NPCs were in the tavern instead having a drink? And if you speak to them 'you will have to wait till morning, my shop is closed at the moment'. Oh my god I would love this! And yes, it would add a whole new dynamic to PvP and add another dimension and area of consideration into the game! Love it! Plus it sort of adds another area of realism into the game. The taverns can close at early hours of the morning, and NPCs vanish completely because they're 'in bed', thus it adds another layer of immersion!

@KattTruewalker Exactly like you said! To increase the use of the pocket watch too and add another element to PvP which I think could be quite exciting.

To people saying it could be night when you want to log off, perhaps the devs can add a specific 'time' when the NPCs disappear. You can then use your clock (which we already have in our inventory) to look at the time and it is up to us to make that call, do I have time to do another one before I leave, or should I turn in now.
