hei i am tired of other crews to be abel to see your mermaid!!! much better if you are abel to sneak around other crews whit not them abel to see your mermaid becuse the mermaid is just now like a big beacon to tell every one here i am! and i hope you other also agree they should fix so other players can`t see your mermaid i think it is fine only your own crew can see it but not other teams/crews

Players need some indication of the presence of other players so the mermaid works perfectly.
Lets not give safe zone advocates any merit.
Nameplates are being hidden underwater too (good decision) so mermaid is even more balanced.
@mrrmayhem90 Ahoy mate, you might want to edit the asterisked word from your post as the forum has a family friendly language policy.
There's been a fair few posts around different variations of the mermaid, the general consensus seems to be that most people prefer it as is, to reduce the chances of camping etc

@mrrmayhem90 should already be able to do that with the hidden nameplates under water and a better strategy than removing what you don't like.

I disagree. You're the only one who sees that smoke, so the mermaid itself isn't that big of an issue. It also helps to prevent getting jumped at an outpost by a camper.

We can't have this turn into people hiding at outposts nonstop. Hidden mermaids would ruin the game.

I get that. But it’s a pirate game. Why can’t people sit at an outpost and steal a chest? It would be the pirate thing to do.
Mermaids can give you away quite often if you're trying to sneak on board someone's ship, especially the loud noise it makes coming out of the water. I've always thought just add an extra "special instrument" that you play to call the mermaid if you need one. The downside of hiding mermaids as others have said, Outpost campers... I think it would be fair to not hide the mermaids around the Outpost areas.

I totally understand your take on it. I just figure they didn't want this to be the case. Mermaids take you back to your boat. If your are at an island and your boat is not present then a mermaid will spawn.
I love being stealthy and such and I still think the mermaid has a place in the game. I guess we just disagree on how much stealth is allowed. I do think your way would create an epidemic of outpost camping though.

I'm largely against the idea of mermaids. Period.
Fall overboard? Tough.
Jump off and miss boarding the enemy ship? Have fun with the sharks.
Since it's in the game though, the most I can ask is they do not spawn unless you are very far (at least a grid square-ish, preferably two) from your ship
Would be a good incentive to stay on your ship and not sword lunge continuously untill it works lol. Cause people to actually be smart about the way they play
