@steelroots55 right, now I know for sure that all this time you've just been trolling the absolute s*** outta me xD
Fair play mate, fair play to you!

@levernicus if the game is good enough, PC gamers will stick around. Also read this, understand how the server's work. http://m.ign.com/articles/2018/02/13/sea-of-thieves-doesnt-have-a-maximum-or-minimum-server-size
It's not good enough. I have multiple friends that bought this game day one and have probably only played 4 hours and I can name two personally by name. Also this IGN article has no bearing on actual reality about the servers. Have you played this game? At non-prime hours of the day it's typical to be in servers with no people at all. Reinstancing is obviously flawed and highlighted by the amount of people cheesing or going hours on voyages with little or no encounters. I'm genuinely curious how many people talking on this forum are actually over 45+ rep or over 200+ hours in this game (including beta). I think I know how this works more based on my experience playing the actual game alone one month into release than some uninformed IGN article written in February by some guy who probably hasn't even played the game. It doesn't take a genius to poke around the forums and find experiences from players who have played long play sessions in dead servers.
-
I honestly couldn't give a good definition of trolling if you asked me. If one can be trolling unintentionally than I may have been, but I meant every word I wrote.
-
@savagetwinky Well then, if its as "easy" as you claim it to be, I'm sure it will be available soon. =)
I however know its not a simple flip of the ole switch to separate based on platform.
-
@captgraykid I get that, and can appreciate those points. My issue is similar to Real Life situations, if something bad happens (bullying for example), do you just give up and quit life? or do you Stand up for yourself and make it a better experience. (not listening to demoralizing players, and use the tools at your disposal in the game and figure out what options you have, or learn to play better or become more aware.)
Yes i assume that you "are trying" to make it a better experience by going outside the game asking for more options. But that's similar to asking for divine intervention imho.

@steelroots55 said in [Mega Thread] Play Anywhere and Cross Play - Part 3:
Again reading comprehension is not your friend. I am merely saying that I know that a lot of players are having a hard time on the seas. Generally they are playing solo or sloop and, unlike me, don't have a cadre of great pirates to fill out a galleon to own the seas. I joke that when I'm with my crew I can spend the money before it's in my hands. That's because my crew doesn't lose. It just doesn't. Again, I'm not bragging because I'm generally the worst player at a given time on my galleon. I'm not in the brig. I have a bunch of great players that like playing with me and I honestly feel very bad for those out that that don't. I feel bad for the poor likely sloops that constantly get messed with by scrubs like you that only play this game to wreck them because you can't wreck any other player in any other game. This game deserves a better class of pirate and I'm going to give it to them.
So now you are attacking me based off a few simple retorts to your assumptions. You don't know how I play, at all.
So let me educate you quickly. Typically I play with 1 friend (duo sloop) we both play on PC, we RARELY engage in PVP (aggressively) we only mess with people when they mess with us FIRST! Occasionally we will annoy those gally's at a skull fort. Thats it.
There is nothing wrong with my reading comprehension. I will say it again: it sounds like you want more of a balance between those two groups. Its been stated many times that Sloops are for more experienced players, because of the disadvantage (of players per crew) you can potentially go up against. Sloop = Harder mode.
So I guess what you really want is more options like a "sloop only" server, or "galleon only" server, in addition to your xbox only, pc only, xplay. Does that sound more appeasing? I mean then sloop players would stand a chance as you say.
-
@trophy-un1ocked PC players like you are the exact reason I want optional crossplay. For all your faulty arguments and attempts to justify faulty arguments, you are doing nothing more than give me less reason to play with people like you. Im not sure if you think an Xbox player is going to scroll through this forum, read your slew of posts, and suddenly love crossplay with other PC people like you? All you do is constantly solidify the justification of my stance while also creating a poor image of the PC crowd in general.
Asking for the OPTION to create a standardized playing field is the most reasonable request anyone could make to a pvp game developer. This is especially true when there is literally no downside to adding the option. To argue against wanting the OPTION for standardization in something competitive is absolutely absurd. And before you make another comment regarding the “insignificant findings of your personal study”, unless all parties have an Xbox game pad in their hand, it is not as even and standardized as possible. There is no argument to be made regarding that, it’s an absolute truth. Controller always equals controller. Controller can not ever equal kB/m. They are two distinctly different entities that play the primary role in how a player interacts with the world. In the world of pvp, an option to opt out is the fairest possible solution to ask for.
-
@trophy-un1ocked wow, you have just compared divine intervention to making an option button in a video game. Lol, with all due respect, I am done with you.
-
@captgraykid Yea in my analogy (getting bullied, but praying to any deity for assistance instead of standing up for yourself. This statement was implied because hurt feelings) But OK cool. See ya.

Yeah, but see, if I want to play with it on and you want to play with it off... we won't be able to crew up. Either keep it on for everyone or turn it off completely. What's the point of having a server with only Xbox players, a server of only PC players, and one that is mixed? Options? Sure, but that defeats the purpose of cross-play. I hear the same complaints all the time... PC has an advantage, whatever. SoT isn't a competitive shooter where split-second reaction time is make or break. Everyone knew cross-play was a thing... if you don't like it, you should haven't purchased the game.
So if you wanted me to play cross play with you and your friends I wouldn’t be able to, you know, turn it back on while I play with you? Like every other game currently offering crossplay...
Also, everyone knew crossplay was a thing, not everyone knew it was forced. People tend to assume something like that is optional since every other game out there currently has it as something optional.
-
@goodsamaritan11 I never once stated that I am against the option. (quite the opposite if you actually go back and read my comments.)
Alas I will say it again: I don't care one way or another if its in the game or not. I just don't feel there is a NEED for it at this point in the game. My opinion is that there are other more important things to get right with the game.
please explain what you mean by "PC players like me" I already told the other dude my play style. Or are you referring to my stance that IN this game I don't feel that the argument of Mouse/Keyboard isn't of the "HUGE" advantage you guys believe it to be comparing it to a controller.
You guys continue to claim I'm "wrong" go ahead and prove it then. Get your own case study, data, information and present your case that its at such a huge disadvantage. Once I can see actual data (regarding this game) perhaps I will change my mind. However, I will not ever take you or anyone else seriously when they claim facts with out giving proper evidence. Not once have I said you/guys do not have the right to request such feature.
Edit: And before you go blindly posting old "studies" about actual competitive shooter games and trying to make them relevant here. I don't give a flying dutchman about outdated studies. I didn't go out and record data while playing fortnite and try to compare it to this game.
-
You are inferring something that was not written, implied, or even thought by me. If it isn't poor reading comprehension then it's the same incorrect mind-reading problem that afflicts my wife. I use sloopers as an example of players that prefer not to fight because they're actually playing the game. The game where players acquire loot and gain rep and gold. That's's what Sea of Thieves is. Too many players act like this is some roblox pirate sinking simulator or Pirate PUBG and complain that they don't get rep for doing that solely. You deny that's your preferred method though I can't help but call baloney on that. You and the rest of your freedom hating (freedom to disable cross play) buddies have provided zero tangible reasons for your resistance. The only excuses you make are nebulous arguments meant to distract from the only real reason...You guys can't hack it and need an advantage. There is no other real reason. Everyone else gets a better experience from the option besides scrub PC players. Everyone!

Look at console players who played advanced warfare, infinite warfare, black ops 3. These games required full 360 aiming, people flying through the air, jumping all around, wall running. These console players who played this game were very talented. They could hit you from any direction. Of course most used scuf controllers to help aid them, but the point is, they practiced and they owned it. I play pc. I play cod on xbox using a xim and a lot of players kicked my butt.
No difference here. It's not about the hardware you use, its about the player and his/her skill level.
I do feel however that console should be able to adjust aim speed, make it faster then what is allowed right now, we need sliders for both hip fire and a.d.s. Hell, add kb/m support for console players like fortnite does so people don't have to spend $100 bucks on a xim to use a kb/m. Anything like that to help console players aiming mechanic.
Cheating, well that's another story and is what ruins the play for everyone. I think once the ban hammer is dropped, we will see less of it then we do now, which really isn't that much from my perspective. And remember, the ones that get banned, have to pay for xbl all over again with a new account, so it's gonna cost them more $ to get back in.
Just my 2 cents.
-
@trophy-un1ocked you don’t seem too good with the whole logical reasoning thing so let’s try to draw up another analogy here for you.
You are suddenly tasked with assembling a detailed LEGO set (something requiring fine motor skills). You get to use your left hand (all 5 digits) and your right hand (at least 2-3 digits). I get to use both hands, but only my thumb and forefinger on each hand. Which one of us is going to accomplish the task fastest and with the best result? (assuming absolute parity in every aspect other than the ability to use less motor function).
Do you need a test study to answer this question? Should we get out the stopwatch because hey, that guy with the the double pinchers might be a God and able to keep up? Stop being naive, you can’t pretend that there is no difference here, you are simply being ignorant.
A PC player can literally have at least 7 separate functions (7 usable fingers not counting fancy mouses with extra inputs for the thumb) being performed while never sacrificing situational awareness with vision(hand still on the mouse).
As an average gaming Xbox player, I have analog movement and vision with a maximum of 4 input functions (if I decide to take my thumbs off the sticks and sacrifice movement).
This does not require a test study and stopwatches to figure out. It’s an inequality. Human error/input/ability aside, it is an inequality.

I agree with you that it is about skill level, and that yes there are some incredible controller users that can hold their own. However, these elite few are not the standard. Arguments of equality can’t be made regarding the top few percent of controller users. The average gamer isn’t going to simply “git gud” they are going to give up on the game, and that will impact player population far more than creating an optional server choice.

@captgraykid said in [Mega Thread] Play Anywhere and Cross Play - Part 3:
So this post is a perfect example proving that console and PC users are simply a different breed. They can't hold a civil conversation with one another.
If the two parties cannot work together, than both parties are at fault. The blame cannot solely go to Xbox, or PC players alone. There are copious amounts toxic players on both platforms and a (large) number of people who believe that they are always correct on certain matters, even if they are not.
One must consider how sensitive/passionate another can be about something, try to see their POV, and act accordingly. Don't claim someone is wrong, without helping try to understand why/how they are wrong. This feeds hostility and conflict to due misunderstanding/miscommunication.
I'm not saying you are wrong, I just don't think you have had conversations with the right person(s)
Sure as hell can't play together.
Sure they can! Don't be pessimistic about it. I believe myself to be a great companion to play with, and I am on PC. All I like to do is help and get that booty!!
Forced cross platform will never work.
Well... technically it is working now, albeit there is rift of divisiveness that it has brought about, which we can clearly see here. But to this I say; more pessimism!
I support cross-play. I enjoy playing with users on Xbox. If Rare were to implement a way to "toggle" or disable cross-play, I would not be opposed to it. Variety is the (Crate of Exquisite) spices of life, savvy?
The Sea Calls To Us All, The Sea Unites Us as One

this whole debate is just getting redundant I'll admit that, but it will continue until Rare decide to actually do something or simply speak to us all on that matter.
lets face it we can all argue each of our problems and dislikes, but RARE are the one with the final decision, but we have no clue or update on this c**p.
Rare now need to buck up and confront everyone on this situation, but there afraid to unless half the community is not happy with the answer and walks away.
RARE YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ALREADY!

I was making those assumptions because you continue to use (solo) sloopers vs 3-4 man Galley. So yes you did imply a great many things. Not to mention insulting your wife...
I use sloopers as an example of players that prefer not to fight because they're actually playing the game. The game where players acquire loot and gain rep and gold. That's's what Sea of Thieves is.
You sir are the one making assumptions. About me, and sloopers who want to play the game "with out pvp" because they actually play the game.... /facepalm
Again you are implying that all or most sloopers prefer to not PVP. Fine, but just because you choose to ride a sloop doesn't mean you are safe from those who go looking for a fight. That isn't what this game is. (PVP is part of SoT)Too many players act like this is some roblox pirate sinking simulator or Pirate PUBG and complain that they don't get rep for doing that solely.
I also agree with you that TOO many people play this like pubg or fortnite. I am not one of those though.
You deny that's your preferred method though I can't help but call baloney on that.
Look, believe me or not about my play style I could care less. I have stated my opinion on the matter already. You continue to believe that I am hating/arguing against it. I am not

Sea of Thieves is a Cross Platforming Masterpiece - Thank You Rare & Microsoft
Upvoted: 65 On original thread
RARE and Microsoft - THANK YOU!
I can finally game with some of my friends and family that don’t play on PC!
Sea of Thieves is the first real cross-platform game that has come out, that has truly bridged the gap between XBox and PC gamers. This has opened the door for all of our gaming circles, allowing for them to merge, and we absolutely couldn't be happier!
Some players have expressed some frustration and discontent with cross-platforming; however, we are not among them. In fact our circle of 20 Plus friends and family that are now finally able to play together are absolutely stoked with what what RARE and Microsoft have done for us.
It is such an awesome privilege and blessing to finally be able to play with friends and family regardless of what device we own or prefer to game on. We can't say enough to show our appreciation for taking the time to program the cross-platforming in and for making it all possible.
You guys rock!
The potential for our future as gamers, XBox and PC alike, is limitless! It's like the first real ceasefire between the console/pc war has been made, and a desperately desired treaty is about to finally be drafted. Hooray! Instead of arguing over which system is better, we can turn from enemies into gaming buddies!
The only suggestion I have for the Devs, and/or Microsoft techs is to update the X-Box so that it can also be allowed to use a Keyboard and Mouse for Sea of Thieves. I can use an X-Box controller on my PC, thus it is only fair that the X-Box gamers should be able to use a mouse and keyboard too if they'd like.
Either way - Thrilled at what you guys have created and we will continue to show our support as our circle of gaming friends continues to grow all because of you.
Keep up the good work Rare!

@goodsamaritan11 At this point you just sound like one of those guys SteelRoots55 keeps mention that plays this game like [insert competitive shooter game here] You have your reasons/issues I have mine.
Sounds like you are the one struggling with "logic" since everyone I know builds lego's with only their thumb and forefinger.
(I get what you are trying to say though where using a controller you only have a few fingers "to use" however, if you use an elite controller you can use most if not all of your fingers due to the additional buttons on the bottom.) -
@goodsamaritan11 said in [Mega Thread] Play Anywhere and Cross Play - Part 3:
Oh geez, I don't want this to be an attack on you, but you are trying to grill @Trophy-un1ocked without having all the facts straight.
A PC player can literally have at least 7 separate functions
This is not 100% accurate. Left hand, three fingers, ring middle and index, are dedicated to movement (WSAD), pinky is typically dedicated to sprint (shift), thumb is used for jumping (space)
Right hand, right click for ADS, left click for firing. That is only 5 functions. Don't assume that everyone has a "fancy mouse."
never sacrificing situational awareness with vision(hand still on the mouse).
True, one hand will probably ALWAYS be on the mouse, but what good does that do in the event of sacrificing the ability move.
For example:
If one were to to click num 3 using left index, to equip bananas, they can no longer move right. If one were to click num 1/2 to equip Cutlass/Firearm, using left middle, one can no longer move forward.
If one need to click L, to equip their lantern, they probably will not be moving at all. (Only really applies to fighting Skeletons, not actual players, but the fact remains that the player will have a moment of standing still.)Any item that needs equipped beyond num 5 (PC default for planks) will probably have the player moving their whole left hand. Do not assume that using a keyboard doesn't have drawbacks.
As an average gaming Xbox player, I have analog movement and vision with a maximum of 4 input functions (if I decide to take my thumbs off the sticks and sacrifice movement).
Left thumb (left joy) = movement (equal to 3 fingers using WSAD)
Right thumb (right joy) = view
Left index (LB) = radial for items(?) -- I might have these backwards
Right index (RB) = radial for quests(?)
Left middle (LT) = ADS
Right middle (RT) = FireThat's six functions. Maybe one does not use their middle fingers for both RT and LT, even though it would be advantageous over switching the index finger position.
you are simply being ignorant.
You too are showing your lack of knowledge when it comes to using a keyboard. I don't see you as unintelligent, just momentarily incorrect.
This does not require a test study and stopwatches to figure out. It’s an inequality. Human error/input/ability aside, it is an inequality.
Here I find you to be correct. Controller ≠ Keyboard+Mouse. They are just completely different input devices, and should not be expected to work the exact same.

@doctor-dissaray thank you for that last post! You provided some very good insight about kB/m and addressed a few things I had not thought of, or was misinformed about. I appreciate the insight! After reading your thoughts on the matter, I do agree that the gap is less than I had alluded to, yet I do still see a gap as being present when it comes to mouse movement speed and accuracy with gunplay. I feel I overestimated the multitasking advantage based on what you are saying.
-
@fishst1ck The more accurate car analogy to KB&M vs Controller would be a car WITH power steering and one WITHOUT. You can steer either car, but it is easier to steer the one with power steering.
-
Can a PC elitist that insists Crossplay must be mandatory for all of us that don't want it explain to me how their experience is diminished if us "vocal minority" get the option to play only with console players? Are there not at least 24 PC players and console players that like crossplay in this game at all times?
-
@doctor-dissaray I'm an Xbox player so it's good to hear you PC kb&m players have your own problems. :P
My problem with the controller is that to equip the banana I've got to hold LB to open the radial, then push right stick up to select the banana on the radial, then release LB. But all the time LB is held I cannot look around. When it works properly I'm only "vision locked" for a fraction of a second but it's not a simple positive process like "pressing num 3".Quite oftenSometimes I mess up the combination button press and find myself bananaless, swinging my sword in vacant air rather than chomping on fruit.Earlier in the thread someone eluded to the ability to "remap" the Dpad of the controller. I have searched the game options but have been unable to find any way of doing this. If anyone who has managed to "hotkey" bananas on an Xbox controller can explain to me how it's done I would appreciate it.
-
@kungfustu72 currently the only unused controller buttons are RS, left and right d pad. If you go into the controller settings, you can select certain actions and assign them to those 3 button! It helps immensely, which is why I feel that having 5 hot keys on a Keyboard would be incredibly useful, even at the split second cost of movement direction. The radial menus are terribly inconsistent.
-
Okay, so ive just been in a long battle with 2 guys at a skull fort. I was playing solo so this was a difficult task as it is.. but these players barely missed a shot and I only managed to kill them a couple of times. As their accuracy was so good I felt it was obvious they were playing on pc. my confidence was taking a knock due to losing my fights with them repeatedly so I decided to message them and confirm my suspicions. They replied and just as I suspected they were on pc using a mouse and keyboard.
This isnt the first time ive been embarrassed by surprisingly accurate players. I can spot pc players a mile away due to their faster turning and movement.
Now... usually I am a pc player but I have been forced to play using my xbox due to an AMD driver crash that still hasnt been fixed. I know first hand the advantages of playing with a mouse and keyboard on SoT and this is the main reason i choose to play with a controller no matter which platform I am using.
I believe the best way to fix this is to make using a controller compulsory. I think this is a better option than optional cross platform. I honestly like the idea of playing with friends on both pc and xbox so I would hate to see the two segregated.

why not? If they already have filters of some sort behind the scenes for matching criteria... Not to mention who cares if its difficult. If the option is on the table I don't see the need to speculate about the difficulty of the implementation.
-
PC players have too big of an advantage over Xbox players. For this reason, I've gotten to the point where I'm cancelling my game pass trial and have decided not to purchase the game. It's a shame, because I do enjoy playing. But constantly losing pvp battles due to unresponsive menus, etc. and losing all my loot has gotten old.
-
@savagetwinky Because its not just based on "filters." There is going to be a level of testing involved to make sure its working as intended, potentially additional hardware, If (additional) hardware is involved then licensing, server space (depending if they have sufficient currently or need to rent more space) It is typical for companies to rent space from an outside source, so Maybe RARE has their servers on their own property, but Maybe not.
-
@adeezlfosheezl No, I do not wish to have to buy a mouse and keyboard to even the playground, also I don't think the big issues are because of mouse and keyboard. (It's better and quicker yes, but not my big issue with crossplay)
I want it to improve because of (most and foremost) the loading screen difference, that is SOOO deadly in combat...
We can take 30 seconds longer to load into the game from the ferry of the damned compared to a pc player, this makes all the difference in the world in fights.
Same goes for when I turn around my camara as fast as I can (80% out of 100% sensitivity so not even on max) and I can't see properly cause my screen becomes fuzzy from the fast movement.
Also very deadly, making it harder to make out what's happening and take aim when on xbox compared to a pc.
Those 2 factors along with the speed they can eat bananas are what make it so this crossplay has a huge dissadvantage to console players. (Not even talking about the advantage of hearing ingamechat, pc people can hear that always where we console players can't if in a party)
I want those differences gone or the option to turn off crossplay. (Even if I'd still play crossplay 80 to 90% of the time) -

licensing server space..
its a M$ company, they have servers, probably azure. This is such a stupid thing to bring up. What they going to go to aws?
And again what do they need to do beyond a platform check during match making? Or joining a server to see if your allowed to join. Its a platform check. The proposal I mentioned would be better and that is allow servers to be configures as controller only and then have the client disable that input device.
And again what does the difficulty have to do with anything? They are software developers. They probably have significantly harder things to deal with then configuring a server. Why do you think even think they need more servers? We are talking about a match making system which probably sets up matches on m$ azure. Physics are obviously server side which is why a disconnect results in flying ships so I highly doubt they'll rent outside of azure because cloud processing capabilities.
