Factions and Pirate War Mode!

  • Ok I know this is completely out of the box but stay with me on this. I would love to play in a mode where two fleets met, 5 ships against 5 ships. A matchmaking lobby where they could trace a strategy together for like 3 minutes. It would run on a limited area of the map, like using the red sea feature to set boundaries around an island. An awesome intro cutscene of 5 ships on one side sailing together approaching the enemy fleet would play at the start the of the game. Winner fleet takes bounty+renown in their faction. Kinda like (the boring) "Skull and bones" but with the awesome ship and crew mechanics of Sea of Thieves. Am I alone on this one?

  • In an old game i used to play called puzzle pirates they had Blockades, which are basically what you described. They were huge sea battles in which different flags (alliances) would fight for control over an island. I would love anything similar to this in SOT.

  • team deathmatch would be pretty fun. i've only every been in one big battle, but it was SO FUN!!!!!

  • This is far from the first time someone's suggested this. And it's just as dumb as the last fifty times someone's brought it up.

How about you go play Blackwake instead? Sea of Thieves was never designed to be a lobby-based shooter. It's a shared-world action adventure game. And I would appreciate it if people would stop asking for RARE to go against their core design concept, which they have laid out many, many times in their various podcasts and dev updates.

  • @blam320 first of all respect. There is no need for aggression, as the whole purpose of this forum is to discuss ideas and suggestions to improve the game we love. Sencond, Yes I understand SoT is a shared-world action adventure game, but so is GTA online, that never stopped them from adding content and
GAME MODES now they've become the top grossing game in history with a massive fan base even 5 years after its launch.

But to summarize i got your point you disagree with me. I still think its an awesome idea and Rare should consider implementing it in game. Like @SappyElephante said: big ship battles are amazingly fun. Peace!

    Sorry like @Sandmanbakery said!

  • @tito-filho I love your idea! They could also add bigger game modes like it as well and alliance based servers that act like normal ones.

You still took credit for an idea that wasn't original, and that has repeatedly been rebuked by many others, including myself.

You also used the old GTA example. You're also not the first to use that excuse. RARE themselves have stated that they don't want to implement other game modes. Check their podcasts.

  • Leave SoT alone, if you want that play Naval Action Legends or World of Warships.

Dude you seriously need to chill, take a walk or something. I’m not trying to take credit for anything. I came to the suggestions sections to suggest something I think would be fun. I didn’t know the GTA example was old, but that jut reinforces my point. I’m not trying to convince you, you stated your opinion very clearly. I still think it would be a fun mode. And according to you I’m not the only one (or the first) to think this way. Peace!

  • @tito-filho yes I love big ship battles. I’ve only been a part of 2 3+ ship battles in all my months playing so far.

  • @dutchdeadschot yeah right? Some of us are in it mostly for the naval combat, and that’s the beauty of a sandbox game, it can be modded in so many ways

  • If this was an optionally approached mechanism engineered in the field, it might actually work.

For example, grabbing a multi-ship voyage from a vendor could work well as a foundation. Then all the crews with their ships simply meet at the voyage defined location to start the timed battle and begin to sail toward a destined location. Last ship floating at the destination within the period wins. Any crew crossing the path of the seafaring fleet is welcome to make their shared voyage even more difficult.

Anything optional and valuable enough will turn our focus from one thing to another.

  • I don`t get why people are always so negative towards suggestions on this game. The ship to ship combat on this game is the best thing this game offers. But people get all ballistic when people suggest a mode to offer pvp or ship to ship combat.

Personaly i love the ship combat in this game. And its just a shame it rarely ever happends!

  • Yeah don't let the rare suck ups discourage you from speaking your mind. It was a good idea. If rare wants to just have what is there already then that's fine but there is nothing wrong with the original poster.

There is absolutely something wrong when they bring up an old fan-concept that was shot down at launch.

It was a bad idea then, it's a bad idea now.

@Arch-Fable I really like that idea, like @ItchyCalf846137 said, the shared Coop PvP experience is the best thing about this game. And Rare should develop ways of making that happen more often. What I like about your idea tho is that its more feasible at the moment then what i suggested. It seems like coding a shared voyage would be easier than creating a whole different mode hello @Rare-Employee

Best of both worlds in one simple and optional package, I wager.
