will there be some sort of update for this to add a body it would be very awesome.
will the kraken ever get a body?
@roughleech03117 I often wonder if the game's mechanics also hinder the developer's ability to add more complex things. The water effects alone have to add tons of stress on the processor and then the physics dealing with how the boat reacts to the water plus the pirates on top of the ship moving freely without issue and then having multiple ships, impressive draw distances, weather effects, etc... I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Kraken is probably simple and literally half-baked because it has to be. I often imagine the moment when a Rare team member came up with the idea to fill the water with black ink. He probably received high fives from everyone in the room for not only providing a solution that relieved computing stress but also had it justifiably fit since it is an octopus-like creature.

I agree 100% with this, with the exception of the bit in bold.
The draw distances are ps1 era.@mcdoll I only mean as it pertains to the game's mechanics. I definitely think that the draw distances are impressive when you consider that unlike most games, sea of thieves is mostly on water so everything is flat. Other games can hide weak draw distances behind mountains or other objects that break the line of sight.
@seedy-platypus
Yeah i also think that the kraken doesnt need one. Would be a pointless waste of power for something that is under water. You are supposed to fight the arms not the body.@mighty-ace123 said in will the kraken ever get a body?:
So we saw another ship under attack by the kraken yesterday. How disappointing it was, when we realised there was no way to sail into the black water area :(
Did sink them in the end. They were in cannon range while fighting the kraken ;)
You can sail into the waters we chased after another galley and killed the kraken for their loot
@roughleech03117 here is a question, would you rather have a kraken with a body, or a giant crab/megaladon

We tried to sail but were stopped at the edge of black water by an invisible wall. Ship reacted as if it was sliding to the side of a rock. We went forward again as soon as kraken left.

Thats weird, are you sure you didnt hit a ship wreck?
If not then maybe they changed it.

@rattlyfob no we kept moving sideways against the edge of the black water.
Still very funny watching another crew battle the tentacles while we were blasting their ship from a distance!
Interesting. I will have to try this again then
@mighty-ace123 @RattlyFob is right, we fought the Kraken on our first day and I turned the boat around to go back at it as the tentacles were still dangling in the air.
The second time round they disappeared back into the depths when we battered it.@sshteeve said in will the kraken ever get a body?:

@mighty-ace123 there is just sail in
Wow thanks we didn't try that, and I certainly didn't post about us trying that!

That is untrue. My friend and I were sailing on a sloop when we saw a Galleon 2 minutes from us being attacked by the Kraken. We sailed toward it, entered the black water and helped the Kraken sink their boat, then we took care of the Kraken, we got away with a few mediocre chest (a bit underwelming).
If you own the artbook you'll see there were a lot of Kraken ideas, it is obvious here time was an issue, so my guess is that "later" might be a thing if enough people let their voices be heard.

I have worked with the Unreal for almost 10 years on AAA titles, started with 3, now on 4, and I can tell you, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Without knowing how water is implemented or anything on how they coded it in their game, this is wild speculation and nothing more. Water could as well be the cheapest thing to get in game as far as anybody might tell you, the only expensive thing could be the shader which since you can chose how complex it is, it is purely client side eye-candy. Keep in mind you need to cater to low spec internet providers and cannot add things servers side so heavy you cannot send through small data packages over the net. Each tentacle of the Kraken is likely as "Processor stressor" as a shark or a skeleton, likewise the same would be with their body. The only really issue here is time to implement art, making tons of animations and new gameplay features associated with them.

So because my experience yesterday differed from your own, I am straight up lying. Thanks, good talk.I can offer that not long before the most recent update I was able to sail into the 'black water' without issue. My intention was to aid the Galleon that was struggling. Unfortunately they sunk. Leaving me to face the beast. Since I couldn't change direction and was solo the best quickly overtook my vessel as well.
Thankfully just yesterday I took him on in my Galleon of 3 and we made him look like chum. So, revenge was had.
I've only faced the beast a small handful of times. I find that it is quite an easy fight if you have a capable crew who actually does their job and fires cannons or at least their pistols into the beast and doesn't get all "stupid". That last bit seems to be the biggest issue I've had with the Kraken. I've fought probably 6 times and won 3? The ones I lost... were all due to rando's leaving only one or two of us on the ship, other ships firing upon us (cheap thing to do IMO but totally in keeping with the game so no worries), or as in one case I spawned into a game as it was killing the crew.

Anyhow, I just wanted to point out that I was able to enter someone else's Kraken fight, so other people knows it can be done. Best time to gain an advantage in fighting stronger crews.
