Sword Lunge Water Momentum Exploit Makes Boarding Too Easy

  • @aelis-du-nochd Nah it’s fine the way it is. You can whiff on you’re momentum too if you’re timing with it isn’t spot on.

And it definitely is not faster than a galleon full sail into the wind. Don’t know how many times my crew is taking off and I do the blocking sword lunge with a jump and I still miss the ladder.

Reddit AMA where the developers say they are monitoring if it's overpowered or not. This was only a month ago, so I'm not sure how "on the radar" it is after they acknowledge it.

    @Sweltering-Nick

Boom, somebody else found one post of it for me. "End of story" it is a bug. Now you were saying about facts?

  • @miles-traveler "Looking for the vid where they said they were keeping the bug 'for now' to see how it played out."

Excellent! Looking forward to getting my arguments properly addressed!

An argument is like a house, you don't remove each plank individually, you remove the foundation and the house crumbles under its own weight.

"I dislike the arrogance of people simply saying they are correct."

That's an emotional issue i suggest you try to get over... If you aren't emotionally affected by the person you are discussing with, creating proper arguments becomes much easier. Take that as constructive criticism! :)

The other persons arrogance should never be a valid factor in a discussion about facts, only the most correct person is actually correct. xD

"If you argued it should stay or you don't believe it is a bug I would be A-OK with that."

    You clearly weren't, though. xD

"'End of story' implied there was no further discussion, which is not how debating works."

Implying it was a debate to begin with, that's my issues with it. Try to see things from the other person's perspective instead of having an immediate overemotional response to anything you dislike.

"I have made my arguments as to why the water momentum is bad as strong as it is now."

And i made arguments explaining why it isn't as strong as you're making it out to be, several other people in this thread also making similar arguments, all of which are logically sound.

    "And stand by those."

That makes you stubborn, that's not a virtue... That's a social handicap... I'm aware i may seem like an insufferable arrogant person with an excessively rigid mentality at times, but that's only for areas i personally believe to be facts... If you think my beliefs in facts are wrong... Destroy them with a good, logical argument... I always try to be as open minded as possible, but when it comes to facts, there isn't any leeway, regardless of what i personally feel about it.

    I cannot deny facts. xD

"Funny but unrelated, another momentum glitch with the water physics"

That's an obvious glitch as you randomly get sent off with INFINITE momentum by merely standing near a barrel or something... Clipping you THROUGH the ship, upredictable noclip moments are obvious bug.

As for the sword dash, it's not obvious that it's a bug because it does create intentional predictable momentum... And said momentum isn't infinite, you can't travel across the entire map with it, it's quite limited. :P

  • @sweltering-nick Somebody literally just posted where Rare said the community discovered it and it was not intentional. You are flat out wrong, period. Now fess up and stop posting walls of arrogance. You are wrong, I was right. The facts are there, posted by Rare. And that isn't even the video I was looking for.

I generally don't consider reddit a valid source of information, more like a popular source of gossip.

However, if the validity of the source is to be believed...

"It's still in at launch but we're monitoring whether it's an overpowered ability. Kudos for discovering it, we've seen some GREAT clips of this. It took Shelley a while to figure out how to do it and she's a Senior Designer on the game."

Means it's a bug... I'm willing to believe it! With a healthy dose of scepticism of course. :P

  • @sweltering-nick That is a Rare Xbox dev posting... There is no skepticism. You simply are wrong after all your b******t rants about me being absolutely wrong and not being willing to face facts.

  • https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/84vzkj/its_rare_ltd_developers_of_sea_of_thieves_ask/dvsu0p7/?context=3 Boom, bug, facts.

Just because YOU don't like it, doesn't mean it was unintended.

And I still need to find the dev video where it was brought up, but official reddit post is more than enough.

  • @miles-traveler "That is a Rare Xbox dev posting..."

Usually Rare would use their own forums... here... Not reddit... So forgive me if i'm still sceptical... But i said i'd believe it, congratulations, you made a solid argument. :D

I'm sort of amused by how cocky and arrogant you became after being guided on how to debunk my argument officially, lol... Hypocrisy much? xD

Anyways, that settles that, you win! :3

  • For me, boarding with this sword dash is really hard. i only done it a few times... then when i climb the ladder they one shot be with a gun, or the shot makes me let go.

  • @sweltering-nick Not arrogant, angry. At your walls and walls of insulting rambling about being unable to accept facts, and me being straight up wrong. And justifiably vengeful when somebody handed me the proof of my innocence. It is like being accused of theft over and over then somebody gives you tapes of the real thief, it is gratifying and you want to shove it in the face of cocky accusers. You were needlessly rude and blasted at my intelligence, stubbornness, ability to accept facts. When I in fact knew the facts and was just searching for the smoking gun to show you.

  • @gunnerdk hanging over the ladder was not working today in a sloop so they mustve patched it

  • @Sweltering-Nick Have you never heard of an AMA? The account is authenticated and the replies are from several developers at once. RARE isn't the first company to do this.. I'm not sure where your skepticism is rooted?

  • @miles-traveler "Not arrogant, angry."

Angry and arrogant... After you finally knew you were right, you said the following: "You simply are wrong"

Which is sort of the exact same thing i said to you that made you call me arrogant.

You were right all along though, so why would you be angry?

"At your walls and walls of insulting"

When have i insulted you? No seriously, what insults? What are you talking about? ._.

"And justifiably vengeful when somebody handed me the proof of my innocence."

Vengeance is never justified... Whenever i have solid proof against someones argument, i don't get angry and arrogant over it, i post it, make my argument, and move on to try debunk the next argument that appears wildly, sometimes i'm wrong, no biggie, who cares... You're too emotionally invested in the conversation.

"It is like being accused of theft over and over then somebody gives you tapes of the real thief, it is gratifying and you want to shove it in the face of cocky accusers."

That makes you a vindictive person, not exactly a virtue... I mean you should shove it in their faces, but don't do it for yourself... you should do it for THEM, they're the ones who need the education... Your emotional satisfaction isn't important here, neither is mine.

    "You were needlessly rude"

I cannot help the things you find rude... I tried my best to be objective, and i still am, i admitted i was wrong, despite your overemotional response.

    "stubbornness, ability to accept facts."

And yet, you still haven't accepted that you won the discussion, you debunked my arguments and educated me on what was the facts, and i admitted my mistake. Why are you still angry? Did you think i made those statements wtih the intention of attacking you on a personal level? I assure you that was not my intention, i was making my case, just as you were, that is all... There were no insults, even though you feel insulted, no ad hominems, only sharing our observations and opinions, presenting our cases as we perceived them.

"When I in fact knew the facts and was just searching for the smoking gun to show you."

I had to ask you i think 3 or 4 times for the link proving your claim right and i had to explain to you each time that that was all you needed to make my entire case crumble before you finally decided to provide the link...

Are you seriously going to try and make you providing that link seem like an original idea at this point? ._.

Whatever floats your boat, man. I bow to your superior intellect, oh great and mighty intelligence! Now if you don't mind, milord, i require sustenance! Have a good day, and keep that link handy so you can shut people like me up with the flick of a finger! xD

@Sweltering-Nick Have you never heard of an AMA? The account is authenticated and the replies are from several developers at once. RARE isn't the first company to do this.. I'm not sure where your skepticism is rooted?

AMA doesn't need to be on reddit though... Reason why i don't trust reddit is because of all the stupid c**p that has come from these, silly drama on several political subject that are supposedly "valid" but is time and time again proven to be misinformation...

Reddit has never been anything other that a gossip platform so far, hence why i'm sceptic about trusting anything on that place... But i said i'd believe it, with a health dose of scepticism... What do you think that means? :P

  • the devs actually specifically acknowledged the bug. i can't remember what they said about it other than that they were surprised that players found out about it and somewhat enjoyed seeing people use this bug to board other ships.

until they add more methods of reaching shore or another persons boat from your's, i feel as if this bug is here to stay unfortunately.

  • honestly i can't see the game without this now. it so intrinsic to getting around in the water

  • @sweltering-nick Dude, stupid stuff coming out of reddit(in your opinion) has zero to do with a game dev literally saying it is true. There is no healthy dose of skepticism literally just refusing to accept actual facts because you cannot just concede you were wrong.

"What do you think that means? :P" The faces and tone you constantly speak in is intentionally arrogant, haughty, antagonistic, rude and condescending. You know it, but will deny it to continue your troll game.

  • @miles-traveler "Dude, stupid stuff coming out of reddit(in your opinion) has zero to do with a game dev literally saying it is true."

You misunderstand, stupid stuff from reddit makes me question whether or not that is actually the devs or not... Seeing as reddit isn't generally a reliable source of information regarding anything, whatsoever... Reddit is like Fox News, lol.

"There is no healthy dose of skepticism literally just refusing to accept actual facts because you cannot just concede you were wrong."

There is always a healthy dose of scepticism... And i did concede, i admitted i was wrong, i said I believed it, i'm just still sceptical about the source... But i did, for the sake of this conversation, give you the benefit of the doubt of assuming the source is legit, even though i don't personally trust the source.

So oh my god, can you just READ and ACCEPT it when i say i was wrong? Good c****t almighty, i've said it, SEVERAL TIMES NOW... ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION!?! o_.

    HERE IT IS AGAIN! o_o

I WAS WRONG! ARE YOU HAPPY YET!? YOU WIN! O_O

Of course you're not happy, you weren't the first three times, why would you suddenly start now?! xD

It's like your eyes are missing, do you have a hard time reading? There's proof in this very thread that i admitted you were right and that i was wrong, SEVERAL TIMES... Oh, there it was again, did you miss it?

Do i need to stroke your sore ego some more? Or have you had enough yet? I've never met a sore winner before, learn to accept your victory, sheesh.

"The faces and tone you constantly speak in is intentionally arrogant"

... At this point, you're actively looking for ways to get offended... ._.

The smileys, are the text-version of body language... The "joking tongue out" implies i am not too serious. It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with arrogance... If all it takes is a smiley to make you feel intimidated, i apologize, but there's nothing i can do to help you. : /

Me "seeming" arrogant, isn't relevant to begin with... So stop obsessing over it, just let it go. I admitted it was wrong, several times, i admitted you were right, several times... And you're still p***y about my perceived "arrogant" behaviour. What is wrong with you? You won the discussion, i conceded, several times, what more do you want? ._.

    "haughty, antagonistic"

Subjective perception, you're in a bit of a mindset at the moment, everything i do is arrogant to you right now. I'm just a villain in your eyes, it seems. ._.

    "rude and condescending."

I've tried to be civil to the best of my abilities... I can't help what you find rude, sorry.

"You know it, but will deny it to continue your troll game."

No, i don't know it... I've tried my best to be civil about this, and you keep trying to make it personal... Stop trying to vilify me. Just read my replies... Maybe you would've seen me conceding if you actually read my comments.

Speaking from personal experience, it's easier to communicate if one actually listens and reads. xD

  • @miles-traveler Please. Stop.

Many of you need to learn the difference between exploits and game-mechanics.

You can find a lot of useful stuff there too, lots of specialized subreddits. Not everything has to do with politics and gossip. Sure you can go on any forum and find things that are untrue and what you could classify as gossip or politics. so in that regard, reddit is no different than any other page in the internet.

True, i could probably find a recipe for pancakes there, somewhere... Point is, it's not exactly a certified professional information platform, it's just a random forum platform for... EVERYTHING you could possibly imagine... That includes impostors and scam artists and all the unsavory types. x]

Using Reddit as your source of information is almost like using 4chan as your primary source of information, lol... It's just full of trolls and memes. xD

However, these forums are official, professional, reliable... If a developer speaks here, you can be sure it's a developer.

Anyways, the reason i decided to believe the link, regardless of my personal lack of trust for reddit, is because i can't think of why an impostor would pose as a dev, and lie about a specific game mechanic being a bug in a specific game... x3

So, i said i believed it, and conceded anyway, regardless of my distrust. :)

  • @miles-traveler this isn't exploit. This is mechanic

  • Left in on purpose.
    Being watched and evaluated.
That’s the official viewpoint on it.

Maybe one of the devs announced the AMA on their twitter, maybe sea of thieves official twitter posted about them doing AMA.

Maybe you should first try to figure out how stuff works, before judging it. And there is literally reddit called /r/pancakes. So it's pretty obvious where one would find that recipe.

  • @avecrux literally linked in post where devs said it was unintended so... wrong

  • @gunnerdk but a pirateball from a cannon needs to be aimed and angled to fire where as a sword boost only require any edge of a ship and being within a reasonable distance it would not be so bad if it went say half the distance but it covers a good amount of ground

Oh, I don't sponsor the existence of the sword lunge, I think it should be corrected sic removed.

I simply mean to highlight that it's not "too" game breaking compared to a myriad other potential means of travel.

But if I wasn't clear in my intent allow me to restate, please, I agree it should be correct/removed despite that I don't believe it's game "breaking".

If you time the lunge with a jump, even backwards jump you will do a leaping heavy attack.
Go to be in block etc etc

    Even better for manoeuvring around.

  • I didn't read anything on here except the title and I can tell you this. SoT official Twitter highlighted a video using this sword lunge thing. I think it's working as intended.

  • @miles-traveler unintended but they left this in game.

something in the game where the devs do know that it exists, even if it is unintended - feature
