@jjblackhat Just because you are not good in combat don't use the "There is a disadvantage" excuse.
Just because you are afraid to play with your own kind on level playing fields without advantages over other players.. don't try to point the finger at me for being bad. I do just fine, but you seem to NEED the advantage since it's so important to you that I don't have an option to play with my own kind. Are you scurrrrred of competition?
Give me a break - still not ONE good argument. Only moronic attempts.
I'll give you a good argument for real. No more picking on you.
If we look at games that do not have cross play (overwatch, cod, bf1, etc.) and compare them to SoT we notice a few things. Those other games are 100% made up of pointing and shooting. You are always in the action in a game like overwatch. There isn't downtime from pvp. So, why does this matter?
Adding a separation option would require UI work, server work, and other various system development work. Even for something that seems simple. So now we need to realise that giving any options to segment their community is literally dangerous to their game. While having an advantage on one platform is also dangerous to the game, the danger of this is minimal and not noticed 100% of the time as you are not always in pvp gameplay.
So now you have investment in time, money, AND a risk to dividing the community leading to longer queue times and players leaving the game. It makes more sense from a business perspective to keep it the way it is and deal with the handful of players who cannot handle the disadvantage. This isnt an argument to why it is not needed, this is me explaining to you calmly why it wont ever happen.
Okay, now I am going to respond to you. :)
Adding an option to separate cross platform would not require much other than 'servers'. The UI work in attaching to the API an small option that sends a value to the server, and response back would be minimal. Adding the a 'condition' to determine which servers to load specific accounts to would also be rather simple. Keep in mind I am a programmer and understand the depths of this. However depending on the structures that Rare put in place, this might need to be built from the ground up which means creating a simple class, and calling it in their code, utilize the the condition based on click, etc. Doesn't matter, the fact is this would be far less complex than all of the fixes they just made in the last update. It just costs money creating the segregated servers/switches, etc.
The community should have the choice to play on level grounds. It's not dividing the community, it's allowing the community to have a choice. Allowing players to opt in or opt out would be at their discretion so if you truly believe that more players are for this cross play option than it really would barely effect you, and you can play with your friends. Nothing anyone has presented has been clear on why cross play should exist other than the benefit of having advantages for PC players.
I disagree - I think it will happen, and if enough players voice their opinions and flex their wallets it will happen sooner than you think. Lets go back to when MS tried to bring out the Xbox One as an all digital system - they changed that rather quickly - if you recall. Never say never. Console players have voices too.
I have already made my decision, and it's good to see others feel the same way which is evident in the votes counted on this post.
Sea of Thieves already has hackers, offering a compelling case against cross-play
