Possible 3 man ships!

Honestly, I'm hoping for a three man ship instead of something bigger than a galleon. What if one of the people I want in a crew for a galleon isn't on yet? What if I don't want a galleon because they're too much work?
adding a three man ship in between the 2&4 might be a good fix.
I have a few proposals.
A Ketch: A two-masted sailing vessel, for which the main is taller than the Mizzen, with a square-rigged, triangle foresail might be a good option. The two sails plus a helm would keep a crew of three busy, make it big enough there's two guns on each side and we are in business, me hearties!

There be many types of "cutter" sailing ships, but they typically had a single mast, often set further back than a sloop, with two or more headsails. They were often built for speed over capacity, so this would be a speed option for slightly smaller crews. I'd prefer to see the Gaff cutters over any others. Simple, but pretty!

Here sits a Caravel upon the waters. Elegant lines, lateen sails. Beautiful, maneuverable, and cabable of sailing windward. You may recognize the word Caravel from somewhere.

I would really like a 3 man ship. I have about 4 friends that play thieves, but were never on at the same time, so if there is two of us on, we sail a sloop. Then while we're playing another friend might sign on and they can't join us, and we don't like playing with randos so we don't have enough for a galleon. I would really like to see a 3 man ship with two masts, two cannons on each side, and one chaser cannon on the bow. I'd even settle for one cannon on each side if I can have a front facing cannon.

I agree with most of this EXCEPT front facing canons. I feel that would make life impossible for sloops. chases would end faster, true, but it would be heavily unbalanced

You might be right, but I think it could be balanced by making the ship slower and less maneuverable than the sloop. It could also be balanced by time it takes to repair/bail out water. Right now, the time it takes a single player to bail water is already different between sloops and galleons. I think on the galleon, one player bailing as quickly as possible, they can keep up with the flow of two holes in the hull, and on the sloop, a single player can bail as fast as four holes can leak
