Disconnect protection

  • Getting 3/4 the way through a mission set, going to 3 different Islands, getting 6 different skulls, and tossing many a cannon ball, only to be disconnected and then starting back at an outpost with a freshly constructed ship with nothing on it is quite aggravating and makes you want to rage quit.

  • @grokzuul Yea.. earlier i got a disconnect too. After 1h30mins of doing voyages with a crew, in the end didn't get any gold from the turn in. Couldn't even reconnect to them since i am on PC there is no 'Recently played' option in the Xbox PC app.

The concept of Disconnect protection is nice. But how will they be able to implement it is the question.
Perhaps if you Disconnect you will still be in the game for example 2 minutes. So you are able to reconnect. If you do not reconnect within said x amount of time then you will officially be 'disconnected'.

  • Yea, it would be as simple as a timeout option. I mean, the game clearly knows when you're disconnected, as it quite literally tells you. So If you're within that time-frame, when you launch the game, or reconnect, it should simply bring up a dialogue: "Looks like you were disconnected, would you like to resume, or start new." I'm not a programmer by any means, but there are a multitude of games that have even this basic premise of disconnect protection.

  • Again i was DCed after 2 hours of looting. All done with this game was fun for a week. glad i didnt pay for this $60 alpha. later sea of thieves! was fun, for a day!

  • @grokzuul Yes! This should absolutely be in.

Considering the number of times this has appeared on the forum, it's clearly an issue that needs to be looked at.

  • I get frequent crashes followed by disconnected from server messages when using Xbox One X, but it never happens when playing on PC. It would be great if the server side allowed you to respawn on your ship when playing with a crew, and put your character and ship (and contents) in a paused state if you are solo.

  • I agree, it takes about 5 minutes for the game to find another random crewmate to slot back into the ship, why not take half of that time to give people the reconnection option? This could also indirectly delay auto-scuttles from leavers, which are very annoying especially when you want to take supplies.

  • For me it has come down to this, if I am able to turn loot in after an hour has passed, I'm lucky. Most of the time i'm getting disconnected and losing all my loot. the issue is getting worse as well, my progression has come to a crawl.

sometimes when I get disconnected and set sail again right away, i'll get an lost connection due to inactivity error. then i'll set sails once more and the game starts a new ship.

if that gives any insight on the issue at all..

  • Another vote for this - solo slooping and now loot from two shipwrecks and a bunch of hard-won animals disappeared. Just five or ten minutes to reboot the router or switch to tethering is all I ask. I don't mind returning to a damaged ship if that's what's happened in my absence but to just permanently lose your session is unforgivable.

  • This comes hand in hand with the migration of server.

    • Go to an island and kill four skeletons
    • Transport first skull back to ship
    • Get migrated to another server while on the ship
    • Go back and found the 3 other skulls gone...
