[Mega Thread] In Game Customisation - Part 2
-
Honestly just hoping that everyone's pirate/ship/gear can eventually look super unique from one another. Obviously there will be favorite styles and whatnot maybe even must have items in peoples opinion but overall just hoping for a really unique experience with everyone's characters as the game progresses.
-
@khaleesibot there’s so much possibility with this game and it’s so limited right now.
Like on the ship a few things you could add customization too is the capstan, helm, lanterns, cannons, and mast.
Also more information about new outfits that will be coming out would be nice “IF” y’all actually have more options ready. Because 4 set for a $60 game who’s progression is based around customization is extremely upsetting.
-
I have SoT on my other account and can't sign in with it, but anyway...
Clothes are far too expensive, even causals should be able to customize themselves and not have to spend hours on hours playing repetitive quests to get some cool clothes. prices should be lowered quite a lot so everyone can get whatever clothes set they want without spending ages for them
-
@khaleesibot I want to be able to have different cannons! Kinda like the ones of the Ferry of the Damned! Cannon customization would be awesome! :D
-
I think we should have more selection for each clothing/shoe items. Allow more clothing options to be unlocked as you progress through leveling up with factions would be nice. Like level 33 unlocks 3 different royal sovereign dresses/coats rather than one, or 3 coats. More colors within the factions will allow for better variety. Also we need more boots, boots, and boots.
-
@khaleesibot The pitiful number of customisation options was a severe disappointment to me. The absurd cost and lack of visual difference with many of the recolours is even worse. The lack of customisation options we have been playing with for months is well even more disappointing. There really should have been orders of magniture more option from the start. Everyone looks the same.
-
I do feel that customisation is way too pricey and I feel if I wanted ship customisation, I’d be better off trying to get back to the alpha. But, I do feel that we need more customisation, but more customisation options as a whole, and even small things like new songs for the hurdy gurdy and different weapons would make the game feel more unique
-
Here is what many would like to see
1, a different variant to the IPG, being able to select body shape, skin tone, eye color, and hair color.
2, Dyes. basically changing different areas of clothing and ship parts.
3, Tattoos. enough said
4, Scars. I think we should be able to select different scars and such.
5, ship types.
-
It would be pretty cool if we could customize all the different individual portions of the ship. Including rails / masts / wheel / stairs / etc. It would ensure that you don't come across multiple ships that look the exact same. Too many times during larger scale battles with multiple galleons, you can mistakenly shoot the wrong ship as they may have the exact same color schemes. Customizable sails with a number of emblems to choose from / color patterns.
-
i was blown away by how little customization there was for a game where that was the vast majority of the content. Like why is a stupid fish head for the front of the boat identical between the 70 and 140k version? Why is the skelly one just a color change??? like come on man.
add something more than just color tweaks. make the other items have slightly different game play mechanics. Keep the damage the same, but maybe make one zoom in more, or reload faster but do less damage, or all these different tweaks to game play. let people figure out how they want to play.
-
@grambo1980 Actually the vast majority of the content is the islands and sailing aspects of the game. That kind of stuff takes up the most significant amount of development time. Cosmetic items are basically just make work tasks for the modelers to work on between real game features and animations.

ok progression instead of content i guess. Whatever you want to call it, i really dont care. The items are just as important as everything else. If you spend all this time collecting bounty and loot and your reward is the cosmetics, make them feel rewarding.

So there‘s a lot of suggestions already and most of them seem to go in a common direction, which is „We need more customisation options“.
Now everyone should know that for adding a customisation option, it takes time and money to be spend on it, and because those are limited resources, using them on customisation options prevents Rare from using them on other parts of the game, event design for example.
Because of this, we should start putting up a list of what‘s most important to us, so devs can focus on the things most people want.
With that in mind, we should also consider how much work is needed to create and implement the different kinds of design options, as this differs drastically My priorities would be as follows:- Full ship customisation (Reserved for Legends) - This includes cosmetic items to actually change your ships layout instead of just a paintjob.
- More Pirate customisation options, especially being able to dye your clothing (This is already done by the clothing in game, as the higher Tier items are mostly recolours.) The best way to keep people playing is to lock these behind achievements of some sort, for example a black dye option for defeating the Kraken, as mentioned above.
- Option to change your pirate‘s looks, like changing hair colour, skin colour, adding or removing scars, etc.
This is an important element when it comes to roleplaying on one side (Someone in the RP group gets grabbed by the Kraken - from now on he has a huge scar across his back and a wooden leg) and could be a potential Microtransaction option to keep the game flowing. - The Option to name our pirates, as in adding an InGame name different from the Gamer Tag. This is an RP element as well as a social one as it‘s important in a social game that you enjoy your character.
This should also be combined with specific titles awarded for achievements like the merchant company ones (or Pirate Legend), which are already in game.
Admit it, „Jack Wrathbeard, Merchant Lord of the southern Isles“ sounds a lot more awesome than „Merchant Captain ForDaLulz1“. - Concerning the above point, how about adding the option to actually implement a backstory for your pirate inGame, which can be seen by other players if you want them to.
This could be triggered by the „Befriend“ option, making people able to gain access to your pirates story (probably via the companion app). This has a very low priority as it is a roleplaying element only, but it would add to the possibilities the game provides.

For starters I would like to see every item that is physically displayed in the shops ingame to be something we can buy. That coat on the doll at the clothes shop? AMAZING LOOKING! I NEED THAT! The shoes standing under the counter, I want to wear those. The different instruments hanging in the equipment shop, I want to use them!
Step two would be to add all the things that can be seen in promotional art and videos but are not available in game. It pains me to say it but in this regard you pulled a No Man's Sky, "promising" things that were not there on launch. Talking about every aspect of customisation here. From more clothes, to more instruments, to more ship options.
After that, start adding more types of customization options. People have already named most of what I want in this post so I won't start repeating what kind of options could be added.
-
@martijngamer12 Actually under some circumstances ships fly a black flag. What exactly triggers this is still unclear though. Might be how long your ship is alive, since you seem to lose it when you sink.
That being said, I would also like to have the ability to customize my flag. The emblems that are awarded for commendations that don't seem to serve a purpose right now could be used for this.

So true, dev have to be aware of it !! Where are all of the items we can see in every artworks and publicity spots ?

I personally would have no issue with micro-transactions if they are purely cosmetic. Ships IMO should have upgrades which persist until the ship sinks or all party members leave.
Examples of upgrades
-
increased cannon reload speed. (max level=semi auto)
-
special cannonballs found in semi-rare barrels and on shipwrecks (ex: booze bomb and high speed)

Nothing will ever be added that gives players advantages/disadvantages.

Just a Question...
Would it be possible to play the game with No GamerTags displaying?
I have used the option for HUD: off
BUT that stops me from playing because I cannot use the items inventory, the animations, the in-game chat, or the weapons...I would love to be able to play with No GamerTags, it would be so much more pleasing to the eye and I'd be able to appreciate the whole image better.
-
Ok. There's no mega thread for ingame graphics, FOV settings or anything of the like. This is the closest thing, so this is where I'm posting.
The max FOV being 90 makes the game absolutely unplayable on 21:9 monitors. Its so tight its nauseating.
And, since patch 1.0.1 the graphics have been increasingly scaled down with each patch (specifically, LOD levels). I understand this is for consoles, but at least give a slider to customize LOD distance for PC. When I look through my spyglass at an island I think I'm in Minecraft.

It is so tough to find the right character that fits all the check boxes for me. I would find a pirate with an awesome expressions and face but horrible body and vice versa. I already rerolled my character at 20/20/15 and now with the new pirate who is 32/31/25 and i already really want to reroll him again due to him looking so bland.

Ship Customization
So far with what we have been given, there is not much ship customization for players to take advantage of -although players can get creative with limited options. For example. I sail with Sea Dog Sails on an unpainted hull (Sailor's Hull), and the colors just work. However, I can't get more creative than that. I really wish I could put a red stripe on a black hull, with light wood trim on the railings. I wish I could paint my ship. Half of all ships out there are rolling in admiral hulls, and the other half are in sovereigns. Ships look the same.I believe ships should undergo a dye system, an easy way to implement this is by using the colors we already have.
For starters, purchasing a hull skin then unlocks all the colors and decals and dye slots that comes with the hull. Unlocking another hull skin then does the same. Players are then able to mix and match colors from different hulls.
When looking at the hulls, there's always something a player might not like about it. Some players would rather have the black and red admiral hull without the white ring decals. Some players like the decall on rogue sea dogs but could do without the colors.
What can be done is when looking at each hull already in the game. Each hull can represent a certain template of dye spots. Here is a hypothetical example:
A player purchases a scurvy bilge rat hull and an admiral hull. The Player selects the Scurvy bilge rat hull and all its dye slots. Then the player decides to use admiral colors in certain dye slots to make his own unique color palette. The player then has the option to also deselect the decal that comes with scurvy bilge rat.The same should go for sails
Separating the designs already in the game into parts would grant players plenty of freedom and individuality.
However in the game's current state this will be problematic as players would have to re-dye their hull at the start of each game.
Unless. . . . the player is able to save their choice as a "Custom Hull" and "Custom Sail" which would occupy a slot in the shipyard chest as a "Custom Hull" option which can then be applied as easily as all the hulls currently in the game.
For example: If I was given this freedom I would select the Sea Dog hull as the template of my dye slots. I would then take colors from the admiral hull (red) and the sovereign hull (charcoal brown) and paint the primary palette of the seadog hull with charcoal brown and the secondary color (the stripe going down the side unique to the hull) with red. Then for the tertiary color on the sea dog dye slots I might use the (dark blue) from the admiral hull. Then for the final slot (trim) I'll use a color from the scurvy bilge rat hull (yellow). And once I finally get to 50 in souls I'll slap on the Rogue Seadog Decal.
This is all assuming I've purchased all these hulls too. Therefore incentivising players to spend across the different hulls rather than buying out of a lack of things to buy.
Maybe this idea could also be considered for clothing as well. But that might push it. I do wish I could manipulate the colors on my Ceremonial Admiral Coat.
Regardless. Consider the individuality players can achieve with this. It might also be easy to implement since it is using colors and parts already in the player's hand.
Whether or not this idea is plausible, it still comes from a valid player concern. There needs to be a valid ship customization with depth that is at least more than slapping on hulls that are premade for us.

Smaller items. For less money. To help those in the early game feel as if they are getting something.
New Wheels for the helm.
Replace lanterns with candles, spooky lanterns, whatever
New capstain (anchor)
Name placard customization
Cannons of course. No change in damage just aesthetic.
Chains or cloth that can be hung around the ship
Masts made of Bones wood metal. And of course spooky ghost stuff.
Change my Barrels to look different in some way.
Small things which could further customize your ship. This list could go on forever. I'm sure these have been asked for , at least some of them. But it feels like 70000 gold is a lot of money at the beginning to start customizing. I would like to change out 1 lantern for candles for 5000. It's not much but it helps me feel like I have started the journey and that the next milestone isn't soooo far away. -
My issue is that I can’t change the appearance of my pirate! I only chose her because I thought she was just a general outline of a character and that I would be able to make changes later. Ugh! She is UGLY. Not ugly like a hardened pirate, but UGLY. Please make characters customizable! I’m nearly halfway to Pirate Legend and it’s too late to turn back!

@khaleesibot
Hello...i was just recently playing with a friend and he went to customize the buttons in the button mapping....he assigned the 'B' button to something else and now it wont allow him to map it back to disengaging. He plays on xbox...i dont know if this is the place to post this or if u are the one to talk to but this definitely needs to be fixed immediately because this is a major problem causing him to have a bad game experience. Thank you.
