ship modification system that allows us to not upgrade but make trade offs to allow our ship to be faster in exchange for less cannons or turn sharper in exchange for slower top speed.
-
@khaleesibot we need kraken themed stuff and the cosmetics from the beta also the ship customization to
-
I'd also like the ability to trade (i.e. hull paint for a different hull paint). Say I spent 140,000 on hull paint and then later down the road I want a different hull paint but don't have the 140,000; I want the ability to trade my current hull paint for the other one (maybe at a little cost but not much). Same with sails and that little ordainment thingy at the front of the ship.

@khaleesibot Hiya Matey! Love these posts as I love to look through everybody else's great ideas.
Sure a lot of it's been said already, but just wanted to add my bit. Basically, the way I see it, we need more to customise. As a customisation game only, the choices are so limited, and once you have the set you want, then there's really not much else pushing you to get the next lot.
They way I thought the game would be set up was this:
Like most MMOs, you start the game with basic gear (sailors), then as you level up (I guess as the faction levels grow) you get more and more stylish gear available in the store, with one item being outright unlocked for free (say every 10 levels you get a piece of the 'Gold Hoarders' gear set). In SoT, there really should be items made available for each level achieved in the factions. I know that's 150 items, but there are only cosmetics to unlock.
Secondly, why are there no shaders? Thought that would be the easiest thing to implement. That way new players, even if they cant unlock the gear, could play around in different colour sailor outfits and that just adds more of a diversity to the game. Shaders could cost very little as well, making them accessible early on in game.
Also, we should have some single items, maybe found on quests or made via crafting, which gives us more choice to mix and match, as when everything is in sets there's not much option in terms of styling gear( I mean like having it how we want it).
Last I would say that we need more things to customise. We're pirates! where are the rings? Earrings? Gold teeth? all these bits and bobs may seem small but do go a long way. Tattoos I have seen mentioned before as well and scars! In terms of ships, it is pretty much the same. We need to be able to customise more than hull, sails and figurehead. The captains cabin, the decks, the masts, the map table, etc; each of these should be customisable as it makes the ship feel like our own. Again, there should be some shaders too for the ship, more expensive than the clothes ones but still affordable early game.
Thanks for reading! :)

So i recently purchased the sovereign pistol, looks great. But now it's bugging my secondary weapon slot. Yesterday, it wouldn't let me have a secondary weapon at all. It just let me change my primary. Now today, I have both slots open, sovereign pistol equipped, but when I pick up supplies, it changes the skin back to the sailors pistol. Any suggestions on what is happening, or a way to solve this? Thanks mate.

Ship Customization:
There's sort of an issue with ship customization ATM. Any party member can do it. which for the current customization. (Sails figure had and paint job on the basic ship sure.... but as customization progresses maybe you want to start things to become stuff to show off. Here's sort of an implementation way of going about doing it. Ship customization's will stay pretty tame while you are not pirate legend.Once you hit Pirate legend you will do something that earns YOU PERSONALLY your own legendary ship. The legendary ship is something all pirates must agree upon. In the Legendary Pirate area anyone who has a legendary ship can put down a blueprint/scroll for his or her ship. Crew mates will then vote on a ship. This scuttles the sloop/galleon that you started with/currently have and summons the legendary ship down below.
Now that crew mates agree on a single ship to use control over the customization of that ship stays with the owner of that ship. I think ship customization should at this point be extensive. From the name to the wheel to the carpet to the wall hangings everything! What's better though is all these customization will be earned or at least unlocked by doing something in the game and not just buy buying it. That super scary shark with the gaping maw in the captains cabin "oh yeah we went and hunted that beauty down in the Wilds. He lurked in the deep underwater caves of shipwreck bay. (I know there's no underwater caves there that i know of it's just an example)
Maybe your railings are those of Kraken tentacles and you've earned that from the many encounters where you've beaten off the Kraken from attacking your ship. The point is to make these cosmetics not only awesome looking but earned through gameplay challenges. This allows people to feel more exclusive about them. Through simply earning gold and just buying it feels less awesome.

As far as ship customization's concerned, it would be nice to see more differences than just the livery of the sail and hull. Right now, I believe the only geometrical changes that can be applied are different figure heads, but I think different ship hulls or at least portions of them (like the pillars in the 'gates') would be a nice touch to pull the different designs/ranks further apart. A bit like how it hás been done with the items and clothes.
This can also open up specials for during holidays, like a christmas/winter themed ship with snowball cannons, or ships which have a stronger connection to one of the factions perhaps. Like an Order of Souls ship with the lanterns replaced for the brighter version and skulls with glowing eyes, or a Gold Hoarders ship with more gold details.Further, it would be cool to see the cannon hatches on the middle deck becoming functional. I do think it will require some moving around of the items which are currently there, such as the map table, the kitchen and the whole equip-me corner in the front. But I guess that's a long way from now.

@khaleesibot Bottom line, we need WAY more customization options in this, a cosmetic only, game
THIS

Dyes,
Allow us to choose our styles and then cilour them to our choice.
Have some of these coloured dyes locked to achievements or status eg a black dye is unlocked after surviving a kraken encounter.Allow ships to be painted in the same manner.
Also allow physical changes in appearance with ship upgrades, not just colours, different railings, masts Canon designs etc.THIS! I feel like it is one of the easiest things for Rare to add. Designing new hairstyles might take some work, but if you would let us switch between hair colours we would instantly get a lot more customisation without too much effort on the developer's side. And I like the idea of adding special dyes that you can only unlock by getting certain achievements.
I really hope we'll be seeing dyes soon!
-
I think every player should receive the option to change their characters appearance at least once and then after that is used they can choose to buy more for something like 5 dollars each time or something. The free one would make up for the thousands of people who thought they could change it later or those who simply regret it and have too much progress + the paid ones is basically just easy money that could be used to further content plans and game longevity.

@khaleesibot WHAT DO WE WANT ?! BARBER AND TATTOO ARTIST IN GAME!! WHEN DO WE WANT ?!?! AS SOON AS POSSIBLE PLEASE ?! (Canadian rally eh ? )
-
@rattlybat795 they are always in a ship cosmetics chest at outpost... you should check it every time you join a crew
-
for the price of the upgrades they should be more than aesthetic in general. Each type you spend 70k should have different features so you and actually build your character. Also upgrades for ammo pouches would be great. This game has an awesome start but currently it’s too complicated for the kids because of the sailing mechanics and there aren’t enough goals and things to do as an adult gamer, catch or kill stuff and turn it in with not real point to money but buying anew look

In case people are wondering why so many people PVP. This is the exact reason I started sailing just for pvp. None of the faction rewards are great, there's not much content, and voyages are pretty dull.
The fighting though. The ship to ship, boarding, ect... That is genuinely a lot of fun. So you have a bunch of people that want to get there 60 bucks out of the game. They get bored of bad poetry and digging in the sand, so now they are hunting the seas, looking for people that dug things up for them.
Also: Why not let us dye our clothing or somehting, so we can add some personal flair to our fashion?

Firstly I would like to say I love this game and have already put a lot of time into this game. I'm just about to hit level 41 in Order of Souls. So yes I enjoy this game. But, I've starting to realize something... The whole point of ranking up and earning levels with the tribes, is to make money, the point of making money is to spend it on cosmetics and thats kind of where is stops. Ranks already mean nothing to me, pirate legend comes with different missions that grant more gold and a few more customization's but nothing to spend this potential gold on. I'm content with the way my ship looks and my avatar, so what am I suppose to spend my earnings at? The entire game revolves around completing quests and forts to earn more gold as you get better levels. I love this game and its ability to be unique. I enjoy the PvP experience and the PvE. However I think a few things should be implemented to increase the play value, some of which have rumored to be in process already so I will not mention them. Here are a few new ones that me and my SoT buddies have conjured,
1.) Fishing, Not just sitting on the shore of and island with a net either. I'm talking about a mix of deep sea fishing as well as the lame net fishing. This could potentially tie into the merchant alliance as another way to gain some rep and gold. By implementing this we could solve some of the trolling or grieving as some players would call it. When sailing in a galleon or even a sloop, the grog thirsty crew could be fishing in the waters while sailing slowly to the island that so happens to be located on the other side of the map. I know fishing is something that a lot of players are already looking forward to and are talking about!
2.) I think ship customization's need to be a must, not just colors, but new ships, new cannons, lower level canons, styles of sails, custom colors and names. For a game that is solely driven off cosmetic gain and no progression or motive it is slightly lacking atm. I want to feel unique but have something I like, for example the only ship skin I currently like is the admiral hull... well I don't feel very special anymore given every ship i'm starting to see has it... I want to be that ship that when people see it they drop anchor and run the other way. :)I guess I could go on and on about what COULD happen but ultimately its up to you guys were just along for the ride, I am more then confident you guys will create more and continue to develop this game! I cant even explain how much I am looking forward to seeing it in the final stages :D

PROPOSAL:
make a music shop in the outpost.
add new songs that can be purchased from a music shop.make it so that "only the person who purchased the music can start the song..." but allow the rest of the crew the ability to play along with their own instruments even if they do not own the song. BUT ONLY AFTER SONG IS INITIALLY STARTED AND IS BEING CURRENTLY PLAYED BY THE ONE WHO OWNS THE MELODY.
songs are very desirable and a fun part of game play and sing and dance with the crew.
but what fun are they if you are the only one playing them??? give the song owner the power to get the house rocking. this will allow people more motivation to continue gathering booty!! customize our own sailing experience beyond skins with music! it adds to the horizontal progression. so its a win winEDIT additional comment:
with the ability to equip music purchased. this will also solve the problem of players having the cycle through dozens of songs to get to the one they like. (which would be our new problem if they just add music to the way we currently play music and switch songs.) have like 5 or 6 slots for music sheets to equip at a time.what you have to understand is that the development team has to make their songs harmonize with more than one instrument. but they also have to add in the drunken song element. so it takes time to make and develop. they will need to devote a team just to making lots of music. but it will be a rewarding venture.

@rage-ranger65 I'm replying to my own thread Cause I hit enter before I was done... Big RIP.
3.) Different NPC, I am currently still content with the Skeli-hordes! They are very fun and nothing is better then grabbing your sword, aka the weed-whacker and going ballistic on them. However, I fear the 4 varieties of Skeletons get repetitive very fast. I don't think you should implement other NPC's as much as different and more unique skeletons. The last thing I want to do is start fighting giant tortoises or Crabs. (Not that I wouldn't be okay with that :P) I think implementing larger skeletons as bosses or different skeletons that have a unique skull drops would be amazing! Given that their is only 4 real skull drops available. As a side note, I am a firm believer that the Kraken needs a unique drop, even if it is something as lame as a tentacle souvenir you could sell. But I was thinking along the lines of a permanent shard that gets stored in your equipment crate and after 10 shards you could exchange them in for a kraken stern for your ship. Would that not be amazing?!?
4.) Lastly everyone has mentioned this so I apologize but it is desperately needed, a PvP incentive. I believe that after sinking a ship the color of your flag should change to black or other colors depending on how many ships you have sank, even a number up their would be nice. A PvP tribe should be implemented and upon killing ship with an active counter you can receive unique rewards and customizations of course all death themed! ;-; Now the concern of people abusing this is great and I have though of ways around this but i'm sure you guys already would have a few thoughts! -
Infinite Pirate Generator (IPG) - Get rid of it. Replace it with a system that allows us to choose the head, body, and legs. Not sure why this wasn't done in the first place.
The ability to carry more than five rounds of ammo for each ranged weapon. We can carry 10 cannon balls, but only 5 rounds of ammo? It really doesn't make any sense.
Grenades with fuses! Left trigger to light, and right trigger to throw. More types of ships! Ability to hire NPCs to help with your ship (I am sure there will be people who will be venomously against this while scream blood murder). The ability to move the canons around on the sloops.
-
@khaleesibot WAY TOO OVERPRICED customisation especially with the need more Tier'd customisation, eg blank patch work Sails for 2-5K, would allow an identity to be started on the sea per session- Like, The ship with Green sails they are friendly, those with the red, they're aggressive, oh and the one with the Blue sail owes us a favour.
Grander Designs get grander prices.Hull Quality Skin Under/overlays- eg Sloop with a newer\emblem design on the canopy
Cannon Skins - Gold Cannons anyone?
Captains Quarters - new themes, colour palettes for both internal and external
Below decks - Different barrel and additional object placements for below decks - choose a template for mid and lower deck individuality for variety.ACHIEVEMENTS/CHALLENGES/MILESTONES == NEW CUSTOMISATION
-
Thought of a few ideas that have been stated by others, but if more people state the same thing then I would hope it may be picked up!
Some of the points below count a customisation and for general game play Mechanics as well.
Pirate Customisation
As already mentioned, more clothing styles, different models for weaponry and equipment, not just 4 models with minor changes to the colours at double the price for the factions!!Right now I purchased the Weapon, Equipment, Clothing I like the look of and have no interest in changing as the Faction clothes, equipment and weapons are the same models but slightly different colour?
I have suggestions about stats for weapons but I'll post that in the combat mega thread.
Ship customisation:
Decorations in cabins:
For the 3 factions have a decoration that changes with the reputation of the crew.- An open chest that fills with gold for Gold Hoarders as your Rep increases.
- Display case that shows the different skull bounties for Order of Souls,
- A trade ledger for Merchants that fills with receipts and papers as you level.
However these could be used to obtain quests! You still have to trade the rewards in at an outpost, but allows you to take them up at sea. Also they could show each crew member and their current Rep for each faction. This would make it easier as to who should pick up the quests to gain the best reward for the crew.
Achievements:
Different Achievements could give visual customisation to the ship. These could be stored in the cabins or on display on the outside of the Hull like badges of Honour.- Kill hundred sharks and get the shark jaws you see in sunken ships as a decoration.
- Survive the Kraken and get a Kraken figurehead (like the one in the concept art)
- Successfully kill a fort Commander and cash in the fort treasure chest X amount of times for a different figurehead.
Flags:
Currently we are sailing around with a white flag surrendering? Allow different flags to be equipped. These could have a meaning (crews intention) and give a small buff? Very minor nothing too overpowered!- Pirate Flag: small speed increase to catch other ships
- Bounty Hunting Flag: Do more damage to Skeletons (crew buff)
- Merchant Flag: Stronger hull to survive attacks.
It only a few ideas and apologises if these have been repeated before.
