-Players with their cannons raised have no desire to fight, but if you choose to engage unprovoked, you may be signing yourself up for a hempen jig.

2: Lantern light flashing bright across the sea, requesting a parley they be.

-Players may want to request a parley in return for assistance with certain tasks, especially Skull Forts. Parleys are words of trust exchanged between crews, but don't trust anyone to hold up their end all the way through, until well after the assistance has been received.

3: If at an Outpost they be docked, attack them you shall not.

-This should be an obvious courtesy. Players are too exposed at Outposts and the fight will be extremely unfair and one-sided from the get-go.

4: If another ship you see in unfair exchange, assist them with your own from appropriate range.

-There will be many times when ships will be attacked unfairly. Assist them to gain a positive reputation in the Pirate community.

5: If a treasure ye see on the open seas, first come first serve is the way it be.

-There are many sunken ships and treasures to be found in them, as well as on islands and beaches. If you spot a vessel collecting the treasures, stow the cannons and turn the wheel. They were there first.

6: Lanterns on both day and night, those ships aren't meant to engage in fight.

-Not everyone is enjoying the PvP aspect of SoT!
Leave this crew alone...

(These rules are just for courtesy, don't expect everyone to know about them, or even follow them)

I would love for some of these Codes to be respected by other pirates but I just don’t think it will happen.

One extreme way around all of this would be for Rare to introduce a server where you can just go in and do your quests without having to worry about being fired upon by other pirates. Like a Peace On the Seas server or something? The rewards for doing your quests could be lesser than those given on an ordinary server but at least you’re avoiding any unwanted attention.

I doubt the above would happen but hey, you never know!
