I think long dungeons with lots of enemies, and a special boss at the end. (A boss with actual boss mechanics, instead of just a beefy skeleton). With lots of loot as a reward would be amazing for this game.
Thoughts?
@itchycalf846137 Yes!
Maybe they could implement those underwater ruins as a special dungeon area or you will need to get to a certain rep level before you can do dungeon quests in cave systems like thieves landing?
This would spice the game play up a little bit.
@elentar That sounds awesome, actually. Split the crew with a team on the surface and a team in the ruins, supporting each other. Some co-op puzzle mechanics would be fun.
@ItchyCalf846137 I thought of the same thing. Even though this is an open world game, I think dungeons can be implemented in almost the same way as raids with Skeleton Forts, without instantiation.
We can, for example, imagine finding these dungeons on different islands. Some might be accessible from the outside, others could be hidden under water. The fact is that you would have to explore a large system of caves with various scenery, such as a shipwreck cemetery or smuggler's hangout, by confronting hordes of monsters on the way, but also by solving riddles like lighting up torches in the good order based on a wall painting to open a secret door, or jumping puzzle, until you get to a final room with a boss.
One thing I hate with dungeons in most of the games is that usually it stops there. You just go outside and it's done. So why not change the rules a little with an earthquake that causes the cave to slowly collapse, or a flood, which would occur following to this victory, obliging you to hastily take some chests and escape before the cave closes, causing you yo die in it. There would be so many treasures that it would be fun to be forced to choose only few of them into panic, and of course coming back for more would be almost suicidal.
What would be fun would be first to find it by exploring the islands, because they might not all be open simultaneously. An abnormal activity of skeletons on the outside might hint that the dungeon is open, for example. Obviously, there would be the dungeon itself, of course, as doing this with friend could be a real blast. And then there would still be this very SOT-like idea of venturing without privatizing the dungeon, with the risk of being discovered and perhaps even attacked, as anyone could see your ship outside and guess that you are in the cave, then decide to enter it too.
Well... I guess I overly thought it because now I need it so much...
