As the title suggests, can have a feature that allows us scurvy lubbers to name our ships? I've always loved coming up with names for my vessels on other pirate themed games and would be great to do it here, you could even add it as a voyage which involves ''procuring'' the tools required to baptise said vessel,

@enzym3 I think the reason they didn't do this is people find creative ways around filtering. You'd have obscene named ships offending people+the younger kids who play.
@kashaarafall Could limit it to a big list of pre-approved words you can slap together to make names.
@santach Have you played many games that did this? One of the first times someone added the icon system to CoD which gave you no way of making pornography, people still did it. Same thing with names. The difference with names though, is it might mean it in a different language =P. Although I don't see the real issues, considering people can shout obscenities among other things over the headset.

Well i thought about that and unfortunately thats the internet for you, for example it's no different in elder scrolls online in their open world environment, or cod as you say.
If it's really that much of an issue then perhaps give it to the community, you apply for a ship name via a feature on sea of thieves website, and wait for approval, it works like for various online services, i think that could avoid these silly names completely.
I'm sure somebody can come up with a more efficient way but i want to throw the idea out there and hope 1 o these sea dogs bite

There already is a guide on how to name a ship on the forum and it suggests how you could pick words from a list to come up with a name, why not implement a system like this where you have a list of pre approved words you mix up to create your ships name or even better a random ship name generator like the pirate generator, I agree it's important to name your ship, no pirate worth his salt (or indeed any sailor) worth his salt will tell you it's bad luck to sail on a ship with no name.

oh sorry i didn't realise it's already been posted, but yes i'm glad you agree, the only thing i wouldn't like is something generating my ships name, as I say -coming up with your own name is much more fulfilling than it being. generated from pre-determined words, thats just how i feel about it, aye!
@kashaarafall We already have that with Xbox Accounts. I've seen a lot of obscene names i have to block out of my stream. No one has a shred of decency, or respect for the younger crowds.
@Capt-Explodabob Probably will come with a future update or as one suggested, maybe it's a feature for legendary status.
Will be interesting to see once someone unlocks that.
I agree we should be able to name our ships. I agree there should be a way to report offensive names just as you can with any offensive content in games (generally).
Being an online only game, the kids angle kind of goes out the window. It's unfortunate that there are so many jerks out there.
@enzym3 theres a space above the captains quarters that has a blank space that looks ideal for a ship nam to be placed. I'm assuming this will happen in the future!

This makes literally no sense. Automated filters exist and have done for years and years. I'd rather a few false positives like the name of a certain British coastal town (The Sc*nthorpe Problem) and the ability to name my ship.
No-one's going to go around doing it manually, no-one's even suggesting that.
So in other words, sorry the other kids can't play nicely, so everyones toys are going back in the box.
I hope it's not as clearr cut as that. while i have hope for the places you could possibly add a name on a ship, i find it odd that any would-be pirate to set saill without a name on his pride and joy.

@t1jt Automated filter solves nothing. You can still work around that easily. Because Rare knows this they are never going to add custom ship names and flags. You could call your ship Pu$$y Slayer and have Pepe as your flag and that's not what Rare wants.
@crusaderjesus Funny enough, said filters can be complex enough to notice that you've tried to say it. Besides that, as online interactions are almost always not rated by ESRB, there's kinda a loophole there for a relatively lax filter.
Rare responded quite positively to the naming idea in the Reddit AMA, and it would make sense to only be available once the captaincy update is out. Just have to wait and see, I guess.
Whether it happens or not, the reasoning won't be what you're implying - i.e. "it'll offend muh snowflakes", that's just absurd.

I hope so, it would a real shame to not have ship naming added, it gives an added personal touch and for all the reasons above, The Flying Dutchman!
